WELCOME TO FEBRUARY AT IKEA

This month we’re introducing a range of products that make the everyday more playful. The launch comes in a modern style that’s about colour-blocking, simplicity in shapes and experimenting with materials.

One of the highlights is a modular sofa that’s stylish enough for the living room yet durable enough for out-door use. Offering fantastic comfort and the possibility to be built to any length, it’s the winner of a Red Dot Design award. For the living room, there’s another modular sofa with easy hook-on modules in fun covers, as well as two side tables and pendant lamps in attractive, modern de-signs.

Parents can delight in new baby furniture, a baby textile collection and children’s mattresses, all developed with child safety as top priority. For the bathroom there’s a range of water and energy-saving showers. Other high-lights include a range of clocks with new functions and products for tea and coffee times — making the everyday a little bit more fun and tasty!

With an eye-catching shape, BURVIK side table is sure to turn up the design factor in the living room. Its handle is part of the modern design, and makes the table easily movable with only one hand. This portability is exactly what the designer Mikael Axelsson had in mind when he created the table:

“If there’s one thing I’d want BURVIK side table to say it’s ‘Move me around!’. When I designed it I was inspired by how our lives and homes look today – fluid, flexible, active – and I wanted to make a piece of furniture that’s easy to lift and move so that it can be used for many dif-ferent activities. The idea is quite simple. Whenever and wherever you need a space to put something on, BURVIK is there for you.”

HAVSTEN MODULAR SOFA

Outdoor furniture has always been quite conventional, but now increasingly many people want more function and aesthetics. That’s why we’ve developed HAVSTEN modular sofa that makes a durable and neutral base that can be easily added to, from armchairs to two-seater sofas or three-seaters ‒ or as long as you like. The de-signer Andreas Fredriksson tells of his idea for the modu-lar sofa:

“I wanted to make a truly flexible sofa and achieve an overall ease with this open design while ensuring that all parts fit in a flat package that you easily take home from the store. I wanted to design a sofa with a light and vis-ible construction, where all materials are detachable. The construction details in metal give HAVSTEN its design expression.”

The powder-coated steel frame is dressed with fluffy, comfortable cushions that resist sunlight and rain. But the sofa is just as easily suited for indoors, and its light construction makes it easy to move around. It’s a prize-winning design that has received a Red Dot Design award in the category of product design. This is a modular sofa that lets you create a personal living room under the open skies.

KUNGSHAMN MODULAR SOFA

In many homes, the sofa is the most central and loved furniture that’s also one of the home’s biggest invest-ments – both in terms or size and price. KUNGSHAMN modular sofa is available with modules that can be built together in endless possibilities of sizes and configura-tions. The designer Mikael Axelsson explains his thinking behind the sofa:

“I wanted to make a sofa that reflects how we live to-day, with quick changes and homes which are flexible yet often small. The modules make it possible to create the exact sofa combination you want ‒ and it’s possi-ble to change it when needed. To lower the price, we worked with the packaging and on getting the right sofa dimensions so that it can be transported in the most ef-ficient way possible ‒ without compromising on comfort and quality.”

The one seat, corner and footstool modules attach through a hook connection fitting, making it easy to re-arrange the modules according to needs. Plus the foot-stool module lets you build a sofa combination with an open end, or keep it separate for that extra put-your-feet-up comfort.

With covers in three different colours, plain pink, beige or a pink diamond pattern, it’s fun to go modular with this sweet sofa – and it doesn’t hurt the wallet either!

This month we’re launching a fully coordinated range that includes all functions for a great shower experience: thermostatic mixers, different spray-function head and hand showers, full shower sets and smaller kits.

For the littlest ones, we’ve developed KLÄMMIG collec-tion so new parents can give their loved ones the best and cosiest start in life. Soft towels, quilt covers, a blan-ket and babycare mat make up the range – with every-thing designed to feel warm and comfortable against a baby’s skin. And of course, just like the rest of our chil-dren’s range, all items in the collection have undergone rigorous safety tests all the way through the develop-ment process.

“We have far more stringent requirements than the au-thorities in many of the countries where we sell our prod-ucts,” says Irene Odd, Product Developer at Children’s IKEA.

As much as IKEA loves colourful products for children, we do not allow dyes that are known (or even suspected) to be carcinogenic or allergenic, e.g. disperse dye, di-rect dye, basic dye or azo dyes. And the cotton used in KLÄMMIG collection is not only functional and safe, but also sustainable in the long-term for the environment. Since 2016, all cotton in our range comes from more sustainable sources. This means that the cotton is either recycled or has been grown with less water consumption, chemical fertilisers and pesticides than conventional cot-ton, while farmers receive higher profit margins.

All babies have the right to a safe sleep environment, regardless of the wallet size of their parent. Like all IKEA products, SOLGUL baby furniture series has been devel-oped with child safety as top priority. It includes the es-sentials for a beautiful-looking nursery — a baby cot, changing table and wardrobe. All the pieces have the same width, which makes furnishing easier.

As a baby spends many hours in its cot, parents need to know that the baby is perfectly safe, even if not in the room. For this reason, we have put our cots through 28 different tests, mostly for safety and stability. This has resulted in design features like a ventilated cot base for the best sleeping climate and the optimal gap between the spindles. Of course, there are no harmful chemi-cals in the paint or material, the edges and corners are rounded and the cot has a stable and durable construc-tion that withstands the impact of a child jumping up and down (more than 5000 times!).

BABY & CHILDREN’S MATTRESSES

Babies and children need good, sound sleep for the de-velopment of their bodies and minds. During sleep, we regenerate physically, our immune system is activated and memory consolidation takes place. With babies spending on average 14 hours per day sleeping and chil-dren at the age of four needing 12 hours/day, a good quality mattress is the best thing you can give a grow-ing child! Sleep comfort mainly depends on the quality and type of mattress used, and is a condition for healthy sleep. That’s why we’re completely renewing both our baby and children’s range of mattresses.

Developed with the best comfort, all our mattresses are created equally safe. Regarding the prevention of sudden infant death, mattresses play an important role. Mat-tresses should neither be too soft nor too hard. The ma-terial should let through air to regulate humidity caused by sweating and the material should not induce allergies. All of these aspects were paramount when we created our new baby mattresses.

For slightly older children, we have new junior and ex-tendable mattresses that fit beds that can be pulled out as the child grows. Designed with great comfort and abil-ity to withstand a lot of energetic use, the new mattress-es form the base for a good night’s sleep – for everyone! For when the child sleeps, the whole family sleeps.

STOLPA & PANORERA CLOCKS

This month we’re introducing a range of new clocks that combine good design, function and price. As part of a ta-ble arrangement or wall collage, first up is STOLPA clock and wall clock. With a built-in touch sensor, the yellow table clock illuminates the outer ring for some seconds when touched, making it perfect by the bedside. The white STOLPA wall clock instead has a built-in sound sen-sor that lights up by the sound of, for example, a clap. It also has a built-in light sensor that adjusts the light to the right amount, thus saving battery life. Made in stain-less steel, PANORERA clock and wall clock alternatively have an LED light that illuminates every fifth second. All clocks at IKEA now come with a silent quartz movement – so no disturbing ticking sounds!
