2. Wewanttouseagreencolorthroughoutthisgraphicandsincewe’llbereusingitwe’llmakeitacolorswatch.FindtheSwatchespalette.Ifyoudon’tseeit,gointotheWindowmenuandchooseSwatches.
3. You’llseenumerouscolorsintheSwatchespalette,andsincewearen’tgoingtobeusingthesedefaultcolorsinourdrawinglet’sgetridofthem.AtthetoprightoftheSwatchespalettegointothemenu ( )andchooseSelect All Unused.
4. AtthebottomrightofthepaletteclicktheDelete( )buttontogetridofthem.(Itwillconfirmthatyouwanttodeletethem,justclickYes.)
5. Tocreateourcolorswatch,atthetoprightoftheSwatchespalettegointothepalettemenu ( )andchooseNew Swatch.

23. CheckonPreviewandnoticehowonlythisdarkbluelineisgettingthearrownow.
TheEndarrow(atthebottomofthewindow)wewantisnumber 8 of 27sokeepclickingtherightarrowbutton( )untilyougettoit.

4. GotoEdit > Copy.DoNOTdeselectityet!

Thetrickisthatyoumustselectbothoftheendpointsofthelinewithoutselectinganything,includingthemiddlepointoftheline.Clickonceontheoriginalwavelineyoudrewsoyoucanseeitsanchorpoints.NOTE:Forthenextseveralsteps,we’llbetalkingaboutthissegmentoftheline.Youcanonlyworkdirectlywiththissectionofthewave,nottheotherpartsthattheTransformeffecthasadded.Theeffectwillbeupdatedwithwhateveryoudotothisfirstsegmentoftheline.
7. Clickonceontheleft-mostanchorpoint.Itwillbecomeasolidcolorwhichmeansitisselected(hollowwhitepointsmeantheyareNOTselected).

Ifyouhaveanyextracolorstops( )removethembydraggingthemoffthebottomofthepalette.
•Clickonthefarleftcolorstop( )andintheColorpalettemakeitwhite.•Clickonthefarrightcolorstop( )andintheColorpalettemakeit black.•ChangetheTypetoLinear.(Ifyoudon’tseeit,gointothepalettemenu ( )and
chooseShow Options.)
6. Youshouldhaveawhite to blacklineargradientfillingthebox(whiteonthelefttoshowthewavesandblackontherighttohidethewaves).Sowe’rereadytocreatethemask.SelectboththegradientmaskshapeandthewavesthatarebehinditbychoosingSelect > All. (NOTE:Theotherlayersarelockedsoonlythesetwoobjectsareselected.)
7. Tocreatethemask,gototheTransparencypaletteandfromitspalettemenu ( )choose Make Opacity Mask.
8. Ifyouaren’thappywithhowthewavesfadeout(ie:youwantthemtofadeoutfaster),asshownbelow,clickonthemaskiconintheTransparencypalette.
NOTE:Toseetheoptionsshownhere,youmayneedtogointothepalettemenu ( )andchooseShow Options.
9. ChoosetheGradient( )tool.
10. Dragfromlefttorightacrossthewavestochangehowtheyfadeaway.Ifyouwanttoexperiment,dragginginotherdirectionswillfadethewavesoutdifferently.
