Ten years ago there
were two women, Nettie
Davis and Nan Williams,
getting together once a
week in a bedroom
converted into a sewing
room at Nan’s house.
Their mission was sewing
blankets, gowns, hats
and “tote bags” for Ak-
ron Pregnancy Services.
One day Trudy Smith
came along, out of curi-
osity, to see what in the
world they were doing
and she was ‘sucked in’
- and has been ever
since. Not only was sew-
ing going on for APS but
for a not so little orphan-
age in Haiti. Nan was
sewing sundresses,
sheets and school uni-
forms (to name a few
things) and Nettie and
Trudy were busy with
APS. Nettie gradually
because involved with
orphanage projects.
Charlie (Nan’s husband)
was busy keeping the
sewing machines and
sergers running. One
day the question was
posed to Trudy is she
would mind helping fin-
ish up a sewing project
for the orphanage.
Now, all four because
busy, busy helping fill the
many barrels John Haw-
thorn took to Haiti every
trip. After 9/11 it be-
came increasingly diffi-
cult to get barrels into
Haiti. What could three
women do to raise
money to help feed chil-
dren in dire need? Thus
an idea was born.
Those “tote bags” for
APS were very much ad-
mired— why could they
not make bigger and
better bags and send
the money to Haiti.
What an idea, but how
and where?? God had
His plans, “As for God His
way is Perfect. He is a
Shield to all who trust in
Him.” And so it was that
fabric began pouring
in—fabrics of all kinds.
The ‘bag’ factory began
humming. The Lord also
provided a place to sell
the bags at Sols in Berlin,
Ohio. The ‘vision’ was
there for all four.
(Couldn’t do it without
Charlie keeping the ma-
chines working.) These
ladies met every week
with lots of ‘homework’
besides.
Fast forward eight years
and over $50,000 later.
That’s a LOT of bags.
Due to over burdening
of machines that were
self-destructing slowly
and physical chal-
lenges, Nan reluctantly
retired and the sewing
room was closed. But
the Lord still had plans.
A new mission was
born—Imagine Missions
and a new director, our
wonderful Miss Melissa.
WHAT TO DO? With the
cost of gas going up
and up, getting to Sols
along with the overhead
made it difficult, and
W E A R E T H E B A G L A D I E S
Page 2 I M A G I N E M I S S I O N S
now there were only
two. Could two keep
up?
Fabric donations still
kept coming in. Garage
sailing brought pins and
buttons, laces and rib-
bons. The Lord opened
other doors to sell the
bags. The vision was still
there. God is still there—
His perfect way and His
shield. Now two ladies,
single handedly are
making bags and God
continues to be faithful,
daily and even hourly.
Two ladies ‘sewing for
Him’.

from the Galilee church

They helped one of our
staff members with con-

She was living in a home

so the conditions for her
and her daughter and
grandchildren were very
bad. They also ran a
clinic at the Children’s

shoes and clothes to
share with the children.

God is doing wonderful things in the lives of these
children, as well as the lives of those of us fortunate
enough to help them come to know the love of
God by providing clean water, food, an education,
and teaching them about Jesus.

The less money we spend
on mail, paper, copies,
etc, the more we are
able to directly help the
children.
Robinson, from Cedar
Rapids, Iowa, come for a
visit. They helped put a
new tin roof on our gate
guards roof and painted
our church. They also did
some fun crafts with the
kids. The following week
we had a group from
East Win Christian Church
from Memphis, TN, led by
Stephen Cox, come to
visit. They also helped in
painting at the children’s
home, brought clothes,
preached at local
churches and did prison
ministry. Following them
was a young lady from
New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Maybe some of you read
about her in a feature
article in the Times Re-
porter. Her name is Bre
Shoultz. She is 17 years
old and she spent 12
days in Haiti. She
teamed up with Material
Girl in NP and brought
dresses down to the girls
that those ladies had
sewn. She helped buy
paint and did some fun
crafts with the kids. She
also assisted another or-
phanage in moving to a
new location by paying
for their moving truck.
Finally we had a team
from Lancaster, Ohio.
They painted three build-
ings at the children’s

Imagine Missions will
have a booth at the Tus-
carawas County Fair,
September 19—25, 2011.
We will have pictures on
display, as well as Haitian
art for sale and of course
information about how
people can get involved.
If you would like to help
with the booth, email
Becky Massey:
back page of this news-
letter.
Imagine is also building a
transition house for our
young people who have
“aged out” (18 years
old). We have had some
very generous donations
and have raised $10,000
for this project. To see it
to completion we need
to raise $5,000 more.
For the past month,
Imagine has had the op-
portunity to speak at
many different churches.
We are so thankful for
everyone’s support and
generous donations. We
would love to come out
and visit you and share in
detail what has been
happening at the chil-
dren’s home. Please
contact Melissa or Susi to
set a date.
home and held a VBS for
the children. We also
had a visit from our favor-
ite Brazilian Ambassador.
She brought us food,
mattresses, and put up a
volleyball net for the kids.
It has been such a bless-
ing having all of these
mission teams working at
the children’s home. We
have lots of new friends
coming in the next few
months.
Currently the kids are on
summer vacation.
School will be starting
back up on September
5th. We are getting uni-
forms made and school
supplies purchased. If
you are interested in
helping to sponsor a
child for Secondary
School, please contact

Help turn $10 into
$10,000 for transitional
housing. Due to a gen-
erous anonymous
matching donation of
$5,000, we only need to
raise $5,000 to build this
house that will help chil-
dren now and for many
years to come. Ask
family, friends, co-
workers and neighbors
for $10 dollar dona-
tions. All we need is
$10. If you attend Park
Christian, take a fake
$10 bill (or more) and
replace it with an ac-
tual $10. At this point,
all we need is less
than 300 people to do-
nate $10 to make this
transitional house a
reality.

The major shipment to Haiti that we have been working
so hard on has been shipped! The paperwork was ap-
proved, everything was stacked on pallets, shrink-
wrapped, loaded onto a truck, and delivered by some
very dedicated members of our Imagine team to east-
ern Pennsylvania the weekend of August 12th. We ap-
preciate everyone’s patience, for the first time you do
anything it usually doesn’t go smoothly, and we’ve
learned a lot. We plan to ship again, hopefully twice a
year.
