Late last year I was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, a very aggressive form of kidney cancer.

After they removed my kidney I felt tired and rundown. I went to Fuel to talk to Dolf. He listened very patiently. He recommended diet adjustments,

ionized water, amino acids and immune system boosters. Within a few days I felt better than I had felt

in years. I feel 19 again, stronger, more energy and happy. Dolf always took time to help, he really cares.

Mission is lucky to have Fuel and Dolf. My sincerest thanks. Therese Leask.

The Mission Food Access Network (MFAN) is looking for fruit trees and gardens in need of harvesting. Do you have fruit that falls on the ground because you just don’t have the time or ability to pick it? Do you have excess garden produce you would like to

share? If so, the MFAN Gleaners are here to help.

Every year landowners in Mission fi nd that their gardens and fruit trees produce far more than they can use. In many cases, this bounty spoils or falls to the ground. MFAN volunteer Gleaners are available to pick or harvest this excess produce from your property at no charge. The food that is gleaned is split 3 ways between the landowner, the volunteer harvesters and local community organizations. Some of the community organizations that will benefi t from the bounty are: Street Hope, Union Gospel Mission, Mission Food Centre, Mission’s Kitchens and St. Joseph’s Food Bank. “Many of our guests can’t afford to purchase fresh produce, so to have it available at our centre to give out is so benefi cial” says Karen Flanagan of Union Gospel Mission. Phil Hope from Mission Food Centre is also keen to see the program up and running, “our clients are always asking for more fresh produce at the centre, so we welcome the contribution from MFAN’s food gleaning project”.

MFAN is on the hunt for landowners with excess food and volunteers who can pick it!

Benefi ts to landowners:

• Excess food is harvested with no cost to you!• You receive a portion of the food gleaned just for participating.• You get rid of excess fruit that can attract

bears and other wildlife to your property.• You feel good knowing that the food is going

to people who need it.

Benefi ts to volunteer Gleaners:

• You receive a portion of the food gleaned for helping out.• You gain valuable picking and harvesting experience. • You can make new friends and feel good about helping to make

Mission a better place.

If you would like your garden or fruit trees harvested or would like to volunteer as an MFAN Gleaner please contact the Mission Food Access Network by phone (778-823-0271) or [email protected]. No experience is needed and an orientation will be provided. For more information about MFAN please visit our website at www.mfan.ca or fi nd us on Facebook and Twitter (missionfan).

June 18-19 2011 will see the return of thealways fun Bear

Mountain Challenge mountain bike race in Mission, BC. The race is now in its 15th year with no signs of quitting. A long running BC Cup, the race will see some serious competi-tion by racers from all over the province.

The two day event comprises a Cross Country race on Satur-day, June 18 on Red Mt. and a Downhill race on Sunday, June 19 across the road on Bear Mt. Saturday is also downhill practice day with shuttles starting at 8am and it will be a very busy and fun time at Mill Pond, on Dewdney Trunk Rd.

The Bear Mountain Challenge proceeds have been paid to local bicycle clubs and trail advocacy organizations who are the bread and butter of the cycling world. Without groups like Abbotsford BMX and the Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association, the cycling opportunities in the Fraser Valley would be signifi cantly reduced.

Spectators and volunteers are always welcome with some great viewing opportunities!

Exciting racing, great food, cool bikes, fun people, all in sce-nic Mission, BC. Come be a part of it all!!!

I was taken to the FVHS a year ago with my 4 kittens. I am a beautiful, long haired, 3 year old, calico female with a bit of an attitude. I do not like dogs at all but can probably learn to get along with other cats. Do you have patience and a forever home where I can be myself and show off just how pretty I am?

Sasha

Do you have a brush? I hope so as I love to have a good grooming. I was taken to the FVHS as my elderly owner wasn’t able to look after me anymore due to ill health. I love to play but am not too sure about young children and I hate dogs. If you have the time to regularly brush me, a cozy couch and a warm lap, I have lots of love to give back.

Ben

I’m a very handsome, black, 5 year old, neutered male cat. I’m a tad overweight, loving and playful. I have a bladder condition and am FIV positive. Now that I’m getting regular food and lots of TLC, I am pretty healthy and ready to go to a special, caring home. I have a lot to offer and would be your best friend.

If you are looking to adopt one of these cats please contact us on: Tel: 604-820-2977
