Lines are presented in fashion as certain ways to give illusions of the body: Horizontal=wide, Vertical=tall. This same concept is put into interior design. HORIZONTAL lines are made for relaxation, to be at rest.

Very geometrical, it can be use to make a space appear bigger.

you don’t need to have painted lines on a wall, or wall paper that are horizontal to give a relaxed space, or to make it appear bigger. The architecture within a space and the furniture can give that illusion

Check the sketch: A space that is rectangular made to a Appear organic, by adding different architect Features, gives if a contrast. Also notice that The statue makes the space

Curved lines are more organic. They are also more common when you straw away from modern geometric design. Although both curved and geometric lines can be unified to give a dynamic look.

At Impact design we love shape the

most. Abstract to geometric it doesn’t matter. So we take pride in presenting you different shapes that have been developed in interior design. Its just not furniture/ art but it is also the exterior and interior architecture. Instead of going for a square room, how about reconfiguring it into abstract shapes; then add furnishings to compliment them.

Check the design: Shapes give notice to a space, negative/positive shapes help. This kitchen has given repeated shape to add detail and notice.

TEXTURE is a great way to add emphasis, character, and can be put to any theme (if done correctly). The thing about texture is, now and days its not just furniture, and carpets that can give texture. Yes there are smooth textures and rough ones, but walls are now being created to have unique designs to give texture.

How can space be spacious? In today’s

design, homes are being built and wanted as

having natural flow. Being able to walk into a

house, and see not only they kitchen, but the

living room, and dining room.

The more space, the better a person feels

rather than cluster, “because once you

experience the feel of space, you want it for

yourself. It makes you feel free” –Raleigh

Designer

Commercial space is

known for this:

Raleigh museum of

Art downtown is

shown on left.

Emphasis is a focal point, gives your

eye’s attention. Its not hard to create an

focal point, as humanbeings its pretty

much natural for us to make one, but the

creativity behind it can take it to the next

level.

The space (above) is so long

oppose to width, that in order to

apply something to the space, it

has to be of proportion. You tell us,

would you put one piece of large

item in a room with everything else

being tiny? Not unless your tying to

do an art installment. But this is

interiors.

Downtown shows great

proportion in furniture

according to the space.

Notice how the furniture

lower to the ground and

stretched out.

Mass is pretty much density. You can see

the density of an object: you know its

heavy, you know its, light etc. But it can

also be done in interior as a visual basis.

Check the Sketch: The

wall appears in high density

because its darker than the

lower walls. Not something

you really want to look at but

it’s the start of a rough design.

When we think of scale we

think of things that are

bigger than normal.

Scenario: World

known chess player: I

love playing chess,

and would like to

incorporate that feeling

in my home. Not too

much “out there”

design, but enough

where it is innovative,

and gets the point

across.

Check the Sketch: Notice

how chess pieces are

enlarged and made into a

unique chandelier, part of a

table, and stair railings.

Bigger than normal scale,

right?

Rhythm! The repetition of a shape, color, texture,

etc. This sketch up of a office is meant for an

environmentalist. Notice how it repeats organic

shapes.

Harmony incorporates many of other

elements and principles of design. It is what brings everything together, and can be done by color, balance, repetition etc.

In spaces without much live loads harmony can still be effective through the building structure of repetitive line.

This showroom in Raleigh

NC shows how harmony

can be achieved through

Various color, and repeated

shapes.
