GRANDPARENTS’ DAY Last Tuesday we had a special celebration of family and friends who came and shared Grandparents’ Day with us. We had a record turnout and you could really feel the love. The band, the choir and all the students sang and played for our very appreciative audience. We also had some very creative costumes for our Book Fair Parade. K Red and 2/3 Green played a variety of tunes on their ukuleles and glockenspiels and at the end we all joined in for the Hokey Pokey – replete with actions! After the entertainment, all the grandparents and visitors went to the classrooms, computer rooms and library and were engaged in activities and even more entertainment. Morning tea and the sausage sizzle were a welcome addition to a fabulous morning. Many, many thanks to all the staff, students and parents who helped to facilitate the magic. And very special thanks to all our sponsors – Urunga Lions Club, Spar, Urunga Bakery and Foodworks – for their generous donations of goodies and help. LULU COMPETES AT NATIONAL ATHLETICS After placing third in long jump at State Athletics and coming home with a bronze medal around her neck, Lulu was off to Melbourne to compete against 12 year old girls from all around Australia at the National Titles. She had an amazing time and jumped yet another personal best of 5.01 metres!! This jump earned her 4th place overall. What a magnificent effort. She was also invited to run in a medley relay where she ran the 100m leg. Her team finished 6th. Who knows, maybe one day we will all see her in the green and gold competing for Australia!! No pressure Lulu Well done, everyone at Urunga Public School is very proud of you. Yesterday, Lulu was also honoured to receive a North Coast Primary School Sports Award for Athletics at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus. These awards are presented to students who have represented NSW Primary School Sport Association with distinction in an individual or team sport, with personal behaviour, attitude and dress of the highest order at all times. Lulu would like to personally thank the school, the P&C and the wider community for all their support.

CHRISTMAS SCRIPTURE CONCERT The whole school was entertained last week by the Year 7 and 8 students from Coffs Harbour Christian Community High School when they came and performed the Christmas Story Musical. It was fun and energetic and everyone joined in with the dancing and clapping. That concludes the Scripture program for this year and we wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and a prosperous 2019. We look forward to more fun, singing and learning next year. From the Scripture (SRE) team at UPS.

LIBRARY NEWS What a fantastic success our Christmas Book Fair was - quite 'out of this world' :) It was wonderful to experience the generosity and sheer enthusiasm of our students, parents, grandparents, teachers and the wider school community. I genuinely THANK YOU all for your support because it does make a huge difference to the range and number of new books I can choose for our library. The school's library receives a commission of total sales made at the Book Fair, so thanks to your support over the past two weeks, I have been able to select an exciting range of new books from the Fair, including Picture Fiction, Fiction Chapter Books and Non Fiction Books. Dressing up and parading on Grandparents' Day was so much FUN! I loved seeing the colourful range of costumes and the students' excitement and enjoyment of the whole day. I might also mention how busy it became when our students proudly brought their grandparents and friends to browse the Book Fair - thank you so very much for your interest and generosity. I would also like to thank Melissa O'Hara for her generous purchase and donation of the Non-Fiction book Bear Grylls Extreme Planet: exploring the most extreme stuff on Earth; and Jenny Luxon for her generous purchase and donation of the Non-Fiction book Australian Geographic Superstats Extreme Planet. The winners of the 'Reading is Out of this World' colouring competition received a $5 voucher to spend at the Fair. There were many wonderful and colourful entries - which are now on display in the library. One student from each class was chosen as a winning entry - and they were: Elise Pagulayan-McCabe (K Red); Lincoln Spencer (K/1 Orange); Lily Harding (1/2 Yellow); Alyssa Meenahan (2/3 Green); Jett Harry (3/4 Blue); Kiara Young (4/5 Indigo); Naia Joosten (5/6 Maroon); Riley Morgan (5/6 Violet). Congratulations to our whole school community for their superb support and making our Christmas Book Fair such a great success! Geri Jensen (Teacher Librarian)

‘LOVE URUNGA’ PROMOTIONAL VIDEO Our whole school has been invited to participate in the ‘Love Urunga’ Promotional Video. Due to winds and weather conditions the videoing of students did not go ahead last Wednesday as planned. It has since been rescheduled for Friday 7th December. Yesterday a new permission note was sent home with your child. Please sign and return the new note to your child classroom teacher if you are happy for them to participate. Details are as follows: A local videographer and drone pilot will be videoing students waving along the boardwalk and spelling out Love Urunga in the school playground. The footage taken will be used in the music video promoting the spirit of Urunga’s Community. The soundtrack is “I am Australian”, and it has been sung by some students from Urunga Public School. Please be aware that this video will be used on various public platforms to promote Urunga. Only students that have returned their new permission notes will be able to participate in the video. Mrs Arnold
