The Bridge School is a Pupil Referral Unit for secondary aged students, who are excluded or at risk of exclusion from mainstream high schools in the borough of Halton. All students present social, emotional and/or mental health issues, which can manifest in challenging behaviours and communication.

The school seeks to employ a person centred, organised, creative, optimistic and emotionally resilient Instructor of OAA. You will be able to develop and resource an emergent provision that becomes increasingly reflective of student needs. It will be necessary to deliver accredited water-based activities, climbing, mountain biking, walking and a Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

You will be delivering to small groups of students, but due to the presenting needs and behaviours you will be required to have a high degree of professionalism, excellent group management skills, be articulate and solution focused, and a have good understanding of wider safeguarding processes. Many students will initially have had little or no experience in the outdoors.

Although previous experience or training is not necessary, you will be at an advantage if you have an understanding of a young person's personal development, both social and emotional, and are able to apply this to your relationships, nurture and challenge of your groups.

The on-going sustainability of this post will be reflected in the school's ability to provide placements for its own students and the students of referring high schools. Well delivered programs will encourage future student numbers and referrals. For the correct person, this role is a highly rewarding post. There is much room for the development of the provision under your lead, and of your own person and professional development.
