In January, they performed the Chinese story of “Yeh-Shen” at the Mississippi Museum of Art for the
Chinese New Year celebration.
In Drama Class, third graders
focused on the stories from their
“Cinderella Around the World” unit.
Students form a tableau to tell about a character from one of the stories they
have read.
In Dance Class,
each fourth grade class used dance
concepts to reinforce their
understanding of challenging
classroom topics.
Students watch Ms. Dunbar’s cues to guide their movement choices when
designing a dance about the “rock cycle.”
At their performance, Mrs. Dunbar explains to parents how the next dance will
demonstrate their study of fractions.

Whole Schools Initiative Pop-Up Exhibit at Mississippi Museum of Art features art-work by Casey students from 5:30-7:30.
Tuesday, April 11
On Kindergarten Transition Day, future Ca-sey kindergarteners will visit the school, while students dress in cowboy attire.
Wednesday, April 12
Ms. Liberto and Ms. Daniel’s second grad-ers will visit the Medical Mall to see an ex-hibit called “A Healthy Start to Art.”

FIELD DAY
In February, strings students finished their program by performing at the All-
City Strings Festival; and the Fifth Grade Choir performed in the All-City Music Festival. And the Casey Arts Festival concluded with the fourth
graders performing the inspiring musi-cal, “I’m Gonna Let It Shine,” telling the
story of the Civil Rights struggles through the songs of the movement.
Third graders use the motion of flowing scarves to respond to the music they hear.

BUGZ!
On March 30, the first graders gave a lively perfor-
mance of a musi-cal about the lives of six-legged crea-tures in search of
a picnic.
The students have a lot of fun learn-ing about insects and giving each little bug its own unique voice and
personality on stage.
Students design and paint houses for
insects after reading the story of “Roberto,
the Insect Architect.”
Ms. Daniel’s second graders made “College Rocks” to celebrate Col-
lege Spirit Day.
Ms. Lamb’s students construct collages of
colors and shapes in Art Class.
Visiting pre-schoolers from Global Con-
nection observe first graders making art.
Fifth graders work together to reinvent iconic sym-
bols in murals inspired by the work of Keith Haring.
Third graders use colored chalk to create
the effect of the “Northern Lights.”

National Elementary Honor Society 27 fourth graders and 32 fifth graders were inducted into the Hattie E. Casey Ele-
mentary Chapter of the National Elementary Society in a ceremony on March 21.
These students were recognized for their excellence in the areas of scholarship
and responsibility and to promote leadership and service as essential life skills.

Chess Champions After training with Ms. Thomas and Ms. Weems in their Open Doors classes, the
Casey Chess Team won first place at the JPS district tournament. The winning team
members include fifth graders (Braylon Jackson, JaJa Sanders, Cate Bondi), fourth
graders (Asia Brown, Gregory Van Buren, Tacarra Shelton), and third graders
(Christopher Dishmon, Elijah Dortch, A.J. Bondi).
