In Europe and Eurasia Oil production has been increasing since 2000.However, the production has been
declining in Norway and Uk. The oil production in Norway dropped from 162 million tonnes of oil in the
year 2000 to 93.4 million tonnes of oil in the year .But there was a significant rise in the use of
renewables in this country. For instance solar energy in this country increased from 474336 barrels of oil
(6MW) in the year 2001 to 79056 barrels of oil (10 MW) in the year 2011.In UK the oil production
dropped from 116.7 million tonnes of oil in the year 2000 to 52.0 million tonnes of oil in the year
2010.However there has been a significant increase in the use of renewable energy in the UK. For
instance the biofuels resources in the country increased from 3000 tonnes in 2002, to 180000 tonnes in
the year 2010.Moreover, the wind capacity in the UK increased from 425 MW which is equivalent to
569085 barrels of oil in the year 2000, to 5811366 barrels of oil in the year 2009.Besides, the solar
capacity in the Uk increased from 1.9 MW equivalent to 1272 barrels of oil to 47879 barrels of oil in the
year 2009.Therefore, there is a considerable growth of the use of renewables in some countries in this
continent, that are experiencing a decline in the oil production.
In North America, USA has shown a decline in the rate of oil production since the year 2000 but there has
been a considerable increase in the renewable energy capacity. In the year 2000, 30096 thousand tonnesof oil was produced in America and in the year 2010, 26355 thousand tonnes of oil. Thus, there is an
increase in the renewable energy capacity with a drop in the oil production rate in South America.
In Africa, the rate of oil production keeps on fluctuating but there was a considerable rise in the
renewable energy capacity. There was an increase in the wind capacity increasing from 183446 tonnes of
oil(10MW) in the year 2000 to 359110 (1246 MW) tonnes of oil in the year 2010 .Egypt, morocco and
Tunisia were the only countries in Africa that are producing the wind energy. Egypt and Tunisia are both
oil producing nations in the region and they showed a considerable decline in the rate of oil production
between the year 2000 and 2010.This implies that, there is an increase in the use of the renewables in
these two countries with a decline in the rate of oil production. Geothermal power capacity also
increased in the region; with Kenya and Ethiopia been the only producers of geothermal energy in the
continent. The total combined geothermal capacity in Africa increased from 52.3 MW, which is
equivalent to 252112 barrels of oil to 371 MW which is equivalent to 1788401 barrels of oil in the year
2010.Kenya and Ethiopia are non-producers of oil.
There isnt a considerable increase in the use of renewables in the Middle East compared to other regions.
In Iran, the oil production was fluctuating between 200 million tonnes to 210 million tonnes between the
years 2003 and 2010.However, there has been an increase in the wind power capacity from 24705
(18MW) barrels of oil to 135241 (101) barrels ofoil. Overall, Middle East doesnt show any rise in the
production of renewables but its oil production rate keeps on increasing.
In south and Central America region, fuel production showed a gradual decline from the year 2000 to
2004, followed by a rapid increase in the oil production rate in the consecutive years. However, there was
a sharp increase in the renewable energy capacity in the region. For instance, the wind capacity increased
from 96 MW which is equivalent to 17534 tonnes of oil, in the year 2000 to 2659 MW which is equivalent
to 2919582 tonnes of oil in the year in the year 2011 .Argentina showed a decline in the rate of fuel
production however there was a rise in the biofuel production capacity in the country. The biofuel
capacity in Argentina increased from 4 tonnes as of 2000, to 1687 million tonnes in the year
2010.Therefore Argentina showed an increase in the use of renewable energy while there was a decline
in the rate of oil production.
In Asia and pacific regions, the rate of oil production keeps on fluctuating between highs and lows. In
Australia the oil production decreased to 21.9 million tonnes of oil in the year 2010 down from 35.3

million tonnes of oil as of 2000.But there was an increase in the renewables in the country increasing
from 2667 tonnes of oil (29.2 MW) to 45989 tonnes of oil (503.6 MW) in 2010.Besides, there was a
considerable increase in the production of biofuel ; increasing from 4 thousand tonnes of fuel in the year
2004, to 246 thousand tonnes of oil in the year 2011.Therefore , Australia showed a decrease in the rate
of oil production with a corresponding growth in the use of renewables in the country. China showed an
increase in the rate of oil production as well as an increase in the renewable energy capacity. Chinas
wind power capacity increased from 8402 tonnes of oil (46 MW) as of the year 2000 to 8178933 tonnes
of oil (44781 MW) in the year 2010.There was an increase in the use of renewables in China from 4
thousand tonnes of oil in the year to 1399 thousand tonnes of oil at the end of the year 2011.Thus China
is experiencing a growth in both the renewables and oil production rates.
To conclude, most of the regions that are experiencing a drop in rate in the oil production are also
experiencing a growth in the renewables. But some countries like china are showing an increase in the
growth of both renewables and oil production
