Most frequently asked questions about the filmWhy did you want to have a pig in the film & where did it come from? The pig came from a professional animal wrangler called Trevor Smith. The pig’s name is Ramsey. I believe a pig can be a pet. I also always wanted to direct an animal in a film.

Where did the idea for the movie come from?I read in a newspaper about an old man who found a dead body in the woods in Germany. Afterweeks they still couldn’t establish the identity of the body. I found it intriguing to explore on film what somebody might do if they found a dead body on a day out in nature.

Where does the story about the naked man come from?I read an old German fairy tale from the Black Forest, which I don’t think has been translated. Ithought it would add interest to the plot. The naked man is as much a kind spirit of the woods as he is scary at the same time.

Why did you shoot on 35mm film?I think it deepened the particular mood of the story. You won’t find any modern technology in the film and the director of photography and I felt 35mm would increase the special atmosphere of the production.

Why did you shoot only on location?I prefer shooting on location. Even though it makes the production more difficult, I think the audience appreciates the difference between location and studio since it feels more realistic.

Can you actually find truffles in Germany? No, you cannot find truffles in Germany. In my opinion it adds even more to the character of Johannes. He is like a gold digger who believes he will be the first one to make a discovery.

Where is the story set?Even though, the signs in the film are in German, the location doesn’t matter much. In any countryyou will find these remote, little villages, which feel like they belong to a different time. They are also all a bit scary.

Who is the killer? There are clues that it could be Ludwig. But it could also be somebody else. In effect this is not themain point of the story. It is more about Johannes coming to come realize that he is putting his andhis wife’s life in danger.

Why does the hiker leave the head in the forest? The older hiker has already learnt life’s lesson which Johannes is coming to understand throughoutthe film: some things should be left alone if they are too dangerous. Besides, nothing good evercame from the woods. The older hiker does not want her life to be affected by this dead head.

Do women actually still wear hair like Frida in Germany? No, as a matter of fact they don’t. It is a very old-fashioned hairstyle. But I wanted to see SabinePostel in a different character than the one she normally plays, a tough woman. I thought I couldachieve this with her hairstyle in this short film.
