Message from Archbishop Jesus said to Mary Magdalene, you have seen

me, I have risen from the dead; go and tell my

disciples, I will come to them. The risen Lord

first met the disciples at the locked door

rooms. He greeted them with Peace. Jesus

must have told them. No doubt, have courage.

Do not have fear but trust and believe.

My brothers and sisters; as we continue re-

sponding to COVID-19, a lot of us are won-

dering how we can walk with our Christian

faith not to panic and fear but explores ways

to protect us from us from this disease.

The first thing is to be obedient to the rules and advice we are getting

from the WHO and health departments by washing our hands, social

distancing. But what can we do as individual Christians in this Christian

nation? Let us connect ourselves again with God.

The second thing is to have faith and hope in God. God is always listen-

ing to prayers. If we can kneel down once more on our knees and talk to

God about the fearing situation confronting us today.

If we can take some time to sit quietly and pray, telling God about those

things in our hearts and minds. When we do that, we make that connec-

tion with God we will see the fruit of our faith, hope in Gods power and

blessings.

Jesus said to his disciples. Do not fear, have faith and courage in the

Lord. Let us have confidence and trust in the Lord that he will be with

us, to be our defender and protector.

Primate and Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE RESIGNATION

Archbishop Allan Migi has formally handed in his resignation letter dated 2nd of April

2020. Archbishop has resigned due to his prolong health condition and slow recovery

that has affected his Episcopal roles and responsibilities to the Anglican Church of Pa-

pua New Guinea in the last few months.

His resignation will become effective on the 11th of May, 2020. Senior Bishop Nathan

Ingen has received Archbishop’s resignation letter and has officially accepted his res-

ignation on the 28th of April,2020. Senior Bishop Nathan will act as Archbishop until

such time a new Archbishop is appointed.

We thank Archbishop Allan Migi for his humility and Good Shepard leadership with

obedience and commitment in serving ACPNG as a Clergy for 30years.

We wish you well in recovery to good health after this resignation. We take this time

to also thank Mother Mary Migi for her support to Archbishop Allan Migi and the

work she has done with the Mother Union.

Lastly our continued prayers for Archbishop Allan Migi and the his family as they pre-

pare to return home to West New Britain.

Holy Week; Palm Sunday Lift up your heads, O gates ! And be lifted up, O ancient doors! That the

king of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he

is the King of glory !

Palm Sunday is when we commemorate Jesus arrival into Jerusalem

on a donkey to the cheering of crowds waving palm branches.

This year most parishes in ACPNG did very low key celebration of

Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter due to

COVID-19 State of Emergency measures and directives from the

Government of Papua New Guinea clearly stated no gathering of more

than 100 people.

Although at this time of COVID-19 crisis we as Christians have not

stopped from praising and worshipping our Creator! All Anglicans are

encouraged to light candle, reflect and pray at home as Sunday ser-

vices are still suspended.

“God gave us FAITH in normal times and RESCIL-

IENCE in time of crisis”.

ACPNG COVID-19 Response Awareness Update

In response to the Government of Papua New Guinea preparedness measures and response plan on COVID-19 pandemic the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea has gone ahead to make available information on COVID-19 to Anglican communities both in the urban and rural areas. The Anglican Health Service officers,

Anglicare PNG Inc, Diocesan Secretaries, Diocese Project officers, Clergy and Volunteers (youths) have con-ducted awareness on precautionary measures on COVID-19 in their respective communities.

The scope of the awareness on COVID-19 is to;

Conduct community-level risk communication Deliver public health messaging Support community-level outbreak preparedness

that complement government-led measures

To make aware to all Anglican communities of what Coronavirus disease is and its precautionary measures from the disease; virus transmission, prevention and symptoms.

Build hope and address people’s fears and emo-tions by raising awareness within youth ministry, parishes and communities through the Jesus Shaped life program.

Apart from awareness raising on COVID-19 the church is also looking into WASH project; hand washing sinks to be installed in all Anglican Health Centers, Schools and parishes, and addressing gender specific chal-lenges due to the State of Emergency being extended for two months.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Papua New Guinea Situation

HIGHLIGHTS

This Situation Report is issued twice a week (Tuesday and Friday) by the National Emergency Operations

Center (NEOC) for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The Report is not comprehensive and covers

information that we have as of reporting date.; 25th April, 2020.

Papua New Guinea has eight cases of COVID19, to

date.

On 22 April, Prime Minister Hon. James Marape an-

nounced the 8th case in PNG: 45-year old female in

Easter Highlands Province. She visited Asaro Health

Centre on 12 April and was immediately admitted at

the health center. She was managed for one week and

improved. On 17 April her samples were collected and

sent to PNG Institute of Medical Research in Goroka.

Her test returned positive four days later. For quality

assurance and best practice, the second test for this

patient was taken, pending result. Currently, the health

center is locked down for disinfection and the staff is

home-quarantined and kept under surveillance. Mean-

while, the Rapid Response Teams initiated contact

tracing.

On 22 April, following the confirmation of the 8th

case, the SOE Controller David Manning reiterated

following directives to ensure life continues in the

“new normal”: - Universities and tertiary education resume on 27 April, Monday; - Primary and secondary

schools resume on 4 May 2020. All COVID-19 health protocols are to be strictly observed; - All public

transportations are still prohibited. Taxis may operate if there are not more than 3 passengers and in areas

where there is a curfew such as the NCD they are not to operate at night. Strict COVID-19 health protocols

will have to be followed; - All domestic air travel to resume but only to provinces where there are no con-

firmed cases of COVID-19; - All ships are allowed to berth and unload cargoes only. No passenger is al-

lowed to disembark, and no-one is allowed to board. At all times PPEs must be worn by both ship crew

and port workers.

On 24 April, SOE Controller approved Hilton Hotel to accommodate approximately 21 HEVILIFT em-

ployees returning to Port Moresby on 25 April aboard HEVILIFT flight HL9213 arriving 1630hrs

COVID Hotline 1800200 continues to be operational, receiving about 2,000 calls per day from all provinc-

es of the country
