the edge of the Black forest. dge has more than 20 years of experience in planning,
financing and operation of renewable energy projects.
dge is focused on the european and south american markets and supports wind and
solar farms as well as international joint ventures in germany, france, Brazil and
chile. More than half a billion euro was invested into approximately 300 megawatt of
wind power and solar energy capacity through funds managed by dge. the group was,

on a globa l sca le renewable energies are already producing a sub-
stantial share of our energy and in this way they are making a significant contribution
to protect our planet. they are the energy of the future.
germany as one of the world’s most important industrial nations has decided to
cover 100 % of its energy supply by renewable energies. the restructuring of energy
supply is in full swing in germany. at the latest since the paris climate agreement in
late 2015 energy generation from fossil fuels is no longer an option even on a world-
wide scale. the same applies to the use of nuclear energy: it fails due to its high
costs and risks. the rapid growth of renewable energies requires a professionaliza-
tion along the entire value-added chain. Qualified specialists are the order of the day.

the development of modern wind energy began in the 1980s in germany. Meanwhile
an international industrial sector has established itself which also includes such
global players as siemens and general electric. today’s machines can generate 100
times as much electricity as the earliest wind turbines.

as performance increased the demands on man and technology also rose. today
the control, monitoring and maintenance of wind turbines require extensive know-
how both in the area of mechanical and electrical engineering, a lot of experience
and appropriate tools. in view of the high performance of modern renewable-energy
power plants malfunctioning results in substantial financial losses.

even in the photovoltaics segment today’s plants can in terms of dimension and
design hardly be compared to those in the 1990s when the first solar plants with just
a few kilowatt output were built in germany. today, both rooftop and ground-mounted
plants are built in megawatt size. some ground-mounted solar farms even reach an
output of several hundred megawatt.
the electricity yield of a single solar park is correspondingly large – and also the
financial loss if inverters or module strings break down. although on the whole
solar farms are less service intensive than wind farms they also require continuous
performance monitoring.
today wind and solar farms are important, and in future they will be the decisive
power plants for the energy supply. thus, their operation increasingly requires
professional management.

of a plant requires permanent monitoring to ensure a trouble-free operation and a high
performance.

we represent your interests in dealing with manufacturers and maintenance compa-
nies and monitor your plants around the clock. our regular reporting ensures that you
are always kept informed about the state of your wind farm and the work of your service
providers. you do not need special technical know-how and can fully concentrate on your
investment.
our monitoring offers are custom-tailored and depend on the maintenance concept used
in your project. we offer our services for all service scenarios, for example:
full maintenance contract
we check the execution of the service provider on a daily basis and close „gaps“, if any.
basic maintenance contract
we take care of the daily operative wind farm management, supervise the basic main-
tenance, and commission preventive measures and repairs as required. as a result
operating costs can be significantly reduced and expensive maintenance contracts
could possibly be replaced.

the investor operates a wind farm with 8 wind turbines in northern germany. the
plant monitoring is done by dge.
o u r A p p r oA c h
the permanent monitoring of the farm discloses a continuously poor performance.
the plant manager advocates for a replacement of the machine heads and wins
acceptance. But the exchange does not lead to the promised yield increase.

the plant manager negotiates again with the manufacturer, to the effect that costs
for the full maintenance contract are waived for 5 years. for this time period the
reduction amounts to about 40 per cent of the annual operating costs.

the quality of the maintenance works professionally and, with that, to assure a long

our staff has extensive inspection and assessment experience with different
manufacturers (e. g. enercon, ge wind, nordex-acciona) and serveral types
of rotor blades (e. g. abekin & rasmusen rotec, lM, vestas). their inspection
acitivities so far were in germany, estonia, france, netherlands, romania and
switzerland.

a large wind farm with an investment volume of approximately 50 million euro is
equipped with a full maintenance contract with a residual term of only a couple of
months. upon expiry of the maintenance contract all claims to correction of faults
would have been forfeited.
o u r A p p r oA c h
the operator wishes to protect his claims under the contract and decides to com-
mission independent inspections to assess the condition of the farm so that he can
complain defects prior to the expiry of the contract.

• considerable rotor blade damages were found in almost all wind turbines.
• the manufacturer remedies the defects, the cost of which would otherwise have
had to be borne in full by the operator at a later stage. the savings in maintenance
costs amounted to 700 teur.
• Based on the inspection results a new contract with better conditions is negotiated
which leads to savings of 1.4 million euro.
• the total savings due to the inspections and the negotiations amounted to 2 million
euro.

purchase or sale of wind farms are fair contractual regulations. contracts are often
complex due to manifold technical descriptions and may be designed one-sidedly to the
detriment of the operator, a factor which can then put him at a financial disadvantage. the
knowledge and implementation of appropriate regulations in your contracts by our legal

the manufacturer sells a performance upgrade to a wind farm with 18 wind turbines
which supposedly improves the power curve of the existing power. the manufacturer
guarantees a yield increase of five per cent. the technical consultancy is taken over by
dge.
o u r A p p r oA c h
in order to verify the effectiveness the entire wind farm is equipped with the upgrade
with the exception of two turbines. the operator commissions an accompanying analy-
sis of the yield data of the plants with and without upgrade. the comparison shows that
the upgrade measures of the manufacturer did not lead to any yield increase whatso-
ever. a complaint is raised against the performance upgrade and efforts are made to
find a business solution that is attractive for the operator.

thanks to the renegotiations better price terms could be reached for the full mainte-
nance contract which could in addition be concluded over a longer time period. the
savings amount to approximately fifteen per cent of the overall costs for servicing and
maintenance to be expected for the term of the contract.
