This months issue is nothing less . It is the continuation of the previous issue so there is a lot in store for you animation enthusiasts. You will see the continuation of “THE ANIMATORS TOOL KIT”.

Well the entire team has worked very hard and has brought about good results. It is only after long days of hard work that the best is selected and put up for your enjoyment. So for all of those curious ones out there here is a little jest of what you will come across in the issue, first of all an interview with the animation editor of the Indian animation film Arjun, Prashant KP. The principles of animation part 2, a review of the recently released film Barfi and also the little tit-bit’s from the Delhi Safari’s exclusive seminar.

Now that’s something to look forward too. So what are you waiting for get your reading glasses on and get digging into a all new world of fun and knowledge.

Good news for the Indian Animation Industry and also for all the Arjun’s fan followers. For the first time in the history of Indian Animation, an Indian Animated

movie has been short-listed to be sent for Oscars. Arjun will be competing against many international movies in the Oscars. We got the opportunity to have an interview with the animation editor of Arjun and also Tata Elxi’s inhouse animation Team Lead Mr. Prashanth K.P. He has also been an animation editor for Roadside Romeo. Having many prominent television commercials like Tata Manza, Kellogs Honey Loops, Skoda Laura and the list goes, working for Arjun was another feather in his bag. He shares some of his experience with the industry and how he converted his weakness to strengths.

Please share your experience on working in an animation film which is now recognized internationally and is known as benchmark of Indian Animation?

“It was a transformative experience for me, working under a visionary director like Mr. Arnab chaudhary. I always believed that we were creating something exceptional and something totally different from the existing standards of animation. The editing process itself was rather a meditative one because it required a detached mind to parallely edit, when the animation was under production. It was a great experience right from creating the animatics of the film till the post production and output of the film.”

How do you feel, that Arjun has been short-listed for Oscars?

“I feel really proud to be a part of this great film. At this point I would like to thank Tata Elxsi for showing trust and confidence in me by giving yet another project as the Editing Team Lead for “Arjun” after Roadside Romeo.”

What is a role of Animation Editor? How was your job?

“When I was working for Roadside Romeo, I was pretty new to the world of animation and my expertise was more on editing live action films. Romeo was my 1st experience to edit animation films.

Editing animation requires a lot of discipline , tenacity and responsibility. It requires one’s mind to be as alert as a sharp sword. Even a simple mistake on the mathematics of the film would cost the entire team of animation. The stages involved for a editor in animation films are like:

1) Pre production:A) Animatics editing: Editing dialogues against storyboard for the entire film.B) Lining up every stage of animation such as 3D camera blocking, Basic animation/ layout till advanced animation such as acting, lip sync etc.C) Breaking down the film into scene and shots and eventually into Reels for film output stage and maintaining a record of the duration to handover to the production Team.D) Coordination with The film editor (final stage) where a film editor puts his detached vision to the film.E) An editor plays a very important role in animation films

Industry Professional’s Interview

An Artists’ PrespectiveAn Artists’ PrespectiveA chat with the Animation Editor ofArjun-The Warrior Prince

because animation has so many stages which involve many different teams such as animation, lighting, rendering. Accurate information needs to pass through across the teams and that is a responsibility of an editor.”

How did you reached to the position you are at now? What did you started as when you entered the field of entertainment?

“It was indeed hard work. I completed my masters in media from a reputed university from Chennai and travelled to Mumbai looking for an opportunity to work in the industry. I gained experience through interning in studios in Mumbai and working for TV shows. After which I got to work as an independent editor editing TV commercials. This paved the way for entering the world of animation. I have always believed ‘mistakes are stepping stones for successes’ and I could successfully build my career through rightly assessing my weakness and by time to time rectification. Any unaddressed mistakes in a field like animation could snowball and affect even the quality of animation because of the loss of time.”

What difficulties you faced?

“Communication was one of my major weaknesses though I knew the language. Animation is purely team work. As editors we need to talk, express and understand with the other teams to learn and rectify mistakes. Regular reporting and to and fro communication has helped to remove many mysterious production knots.”

You were also the team lead of the editing department, how different was it from being an animation editor?

“I became a Team lead with Arjun and a senior editor while working on Romeo. Being a team lead means one has to manage oneself plus the team. So it comes up with much more responsibility and utmost focus. Sometimes it involves soaking up blames of the team members for the cause of correcting team mistakes.”

If, you appoint interns or would like to hire someone, what would like to see in an

applicants show reel?

“For a new entrant, first and foremost I would like to see is the right attitude before scanning the showreel. Secondly it is a great advantage to be a learnt professional as he or she can directly get inducted into the team. Otherwise they might be kept under observation initially until they learn the basic tenets of operating the edit suite. With respect to the candidate’s showreel I would like to scan his/her project workflow to study the editing discipline, and any edited montage of the personal works.”

Any advice or message would you like to give to our readers aspiring to be video editors? “Video editing requires a lot of patience and perseverance. One should be ready to stretch and devote a lot of time. Please develop a strong foundation during t h e learning days and be r e a d y to face and win over a n y challenges that pose you.”

In our previous issue we had mentioned 4 laws which were very

important. This issue will have laws which are basic yet again important to follow. These 4 laws grip the audience from the start till the end credits roll. Out off four, two laws are important to make the film look better and other 2 are important for animation to go smoother. Let’s discuss the laws which makes a movie look better:-

Rule No #5: Anticipation – This law states that, “Preparing the audience to understand the events of next animated scene. The event will not be understood by the audience unless it is not properly planned. This is achieved by preceding each action with specific movement that would make the audience expect.”

What animation explains: Simple definition of anticipation in the terms of animation is preparing for an action or raising the bar of expectation amongst the audience. This can be done by showing movements in simplest facial expression or by complex physical movements. Anticipatory movements may not show ‘why is a character doing that?’ but there is no question asked of ‘what is the character doing?’ also. This law had its opposite called ‘Surprise Gag’. A surprise gag happens only if the audience is expecting one thing to happen and suddenly something completely different happens. The surprise gags are

very d e l i c a t e element to add in an animation sequence, if the audience does not get anticipated by character’s previous movements. To enhance the anticipatory sequence it is very important to keep the whole body or movements in sync with the action. The action should be enhanced and all the other elements should help in enhancing the action rather than breaking the rhythm of the anticipation or surprise gag action. It is not only an action or movement even a script can have anticipatory elements. A script with anticipation helps in keeping the audience engrossed in the story.

Example: I would request you to foretell what our character is upto, in Fig (5)? That is right; our character is listening to something and dancing with it.

Action: Our character is listening to his music device and enjoying. It looks as if he is enjoying but he is preparing for some other action.

Observation: Our character was admiring the music, he was listening to. For a moment he was even dancing but suddenly he throws away the music device. This sudden action which everybody was not expecting is known as surprise gag anticipation.

Principles of Animation

Conclusion: It is rightfully

said expect the unexpected. Anticipation is one such element that keeps the audience bonded with the movie. Nobody asks the question of why the character is doing that? For a simple reason the audience is perceiving that he is enjoying the music. But after he throws the device the question arises of why did he do that? This question’s answer should be concluded by the next scene. If not then it is just another blunder. Anticipation is an easy principle but it needs to be executed and concluded carefully.

Rule #6: Exaggeration – This law states that, “Describing the action more than it actually happened or in other words ‘larger than life’. This law is based on human tendency of hyping up a situation. This is one of the reasons that at times exaggeration goes unnoticed if a sequence is under exaggerated or right amount of exaggeration is used.”

What animation explains: Exaggeration is one of the most important principles, to bring in comedy and to link it with more realistic behaviour. At the same time, the animator needs to be very careful and selective with the properties or actions that will be enhancing. Else it takes no time for the sequence to get over-exaggerated and unrealistic. Basically exaggeration means to enhance or make a particular action over-reactive. At the same time it is an art to control that exaggeration that it should look and feel real. As anticipation ,even exaggeration needs the action to be highlighted and rest to support the action. It is used very liberally in an animation sequences.

Example: Consider fig (6), our regular character plans to hammer a nail on a table. But his misfortune made him hammer something else.

Action: Our trouble seeker plans to

hammer a nail on the table. Instead of hammering the nail he unknowingly hammers a nice blow to his thumb. Out of pain and despair poor guy shows off his new earned mischief mark on his thumb and yells out on top of his voice.

Observation: On observing the movements of the illustration properly, it will come to notice that, why does he have to jump so high to hammer that nail? Exaggeration is a very beautiful principle which adds up to the animation and makes it hilarious. It gives human touch to the animation. Let’s face it we do not like to share a story unless it is topped up with right amount of spice. If you notice carefully then it also follows the principle of arcs and is exaggerated keeping the principle of arcs in mind. The character takes a big leap in the air, he has a hammer in one hand and other hand is stuck with nail. He leans further back and gathers enough energy to hammer the nail but his bad luck, he hammers his thumb instead. Now the reaction of the character is also exaggerated. The characteristics exaggerated are the mouth and the thumb. His mouth’s size is suddenly now bigger than his body which tells the audience the amount of pain the character is suffering. The size and colour of his thumb is showing the audience where he got hit and how is he suffering from pain. This two things directly connects to the audience as it has human emotions.

Conclusion: Exaggerating our characters movements a little made him life like and connected directly with the emotions of the audience. But again exaggeration comes with warning, that if it is over-done it can spoil the animation sequence. It is important to use it but appropriately.

Rule No #8: Appeal – This law states that, “Any character’s characterization which is admired the most. Even remembering the character’s name can be called as the character’s Appeal. Basically it means anything about a character which pleases the audience.”

What animation explains: Appeal has been an important factor since the start of film-making. It is the look, feel and behaviour of the character which needs to be designed with utmost care. There are many qualities which can be considered while designing a character. Out off which being simple is the most important and the most difficult to achieve. The sole intention of these principles is to enhance characters and their characteristics, so that they could do justice to the script or to their role. Appeal includes a strong drawing like how the actual character will look with its props and poses. A weak drawing can spoil the whole feel of the character no matter how good it is. Characters depicting attitude win the audience but they need to be justified by the script and supporting elements. Every character should have an appeal. Right from heroic figure to a villainous character should have an appeal. Even an ugly and repulsive character should have an appeal and attract the audience. Audience likes to watch that is appealing to them, whether an expression, a character or its movement and whole story build-up. If a live-action character has charisma, the animated drawing has an appeal.

Example: We will be taking 3 examples for this particular principle. All of them would be explained side by side. Consider: Fig(7.a) shows a detailed illustration of a man. Fig (7.b) shows a detailed illustration of a boy. Fig (7.c) shows a detailed illustration of an old man.

Action: There is no particular action in this principle. The way the characters

are standing should define the characters’ attitude or their persona.

Observation:

On first observing the characters they give a strong appeal that they belong to the same

family. Their looks are similar, the detailing done to their nose, legs and clothes make them look from

a same family. They all are having their own attitude. Let’s start from the youngest generation.

Fig (7.b) The illustration of son strongly appeals confidence. If his eyebrow would have been raised or the glasses would have shifted little down then it would have been purely over-confidence. Also the way the kid is standing shows his easy-go attitude towards life. From the look of his smile it appeals that the kid is mischievous one. If these points are considered carefully then the animation suites the character very well.

Fig (7.a) The illustration of the man let’s say the kid’s father. He looks strict and controlling. His attitude is complementing his son attitude. He bears the look of a responsible man. His body structure falls right between the young kid and the old grandfather. The man is the perfect combination, his thin and tall look makes him stand out and gives him his own personal definition.

Fig (7.c) The illustration of the old man or the head of the family, the grandfather looks very appropriate matching the scene and completing the composition. The look of the grandfather is designed in such a way that he looks very contend from his life. He has the feel to it that he has passed the kid’s mischievous stage, the father’s responsible stage and is the know it all man of the family. At the same time he looks as if he is very tired and will die soon.

Conclusion:

Principles of Animation

While sketching for this particular principle it is necessary to keep the subordinating characters in mind as well. If this principle is followed by the sketching artist the pre-production stage the characters developed would be strong. Appeal needs to have proper drawing with colours and pose to define the character. It should look as close to the character that will be used for the animation.

Rule No #7: Timing – This law states that, “this is the most technical law which early animators used to take personal care of. This law defines the science, physics, intensity and personality, look and feel of the action or character on the screen. Timing is directly dependent on weight, volume, force applied and material of the subject or object or the action. Timing is the complete science of managing an action to make it look real.”

What animation explains: It gives meaning to an action and defines its intensity of it. For example: if there is a fight scene, to show the impactful hitting movements those action will be fast and

quick, if their play speed is

reduced it will feel like the characters are sharing friendly blows. Similarly, timing also plays an important role in defining the characteristics of a character. For example: if the character is lethargic his action will be slow and relaxed. To show his movements on screen his action cannot be stretched according to time but will have to adjust as per the given time.

Example: Observe fig (7) closely, it is a normal hit and bounce cycle of ball. Action: When the ball is thrown at the wall it gradually picks up speed. Hit’s the wall and rebounds from it and bounces on the ground a couple of time and then rest.

Observation: When it has to be executed in animation, slow in and slow out principle should be considered as well. So, timing t h e f r a m e

is the key ingredient to

show smooth life like animation. If we observe the illustration carefully, we can see the where the ball is just gaining speed there are more inbetween frame. That is to show that the motion of the ball is slow and increasing gradually. Once the ball has gained speed there will be less or no inbetween frames between two key-frames. Again when the ball hits the wall its speed is impacted and balls shows squash and stretch principle as well as slow in and slow out principle. To show these two principles acting on the ball at the same time, ‘timing principle’ comes into existence. Even after the ball rebounds from the wall, and bounces on the ground, timing principle is the key factor defining the animation of ball getting affected by gravity.

Conclusion: It is a difficult task to separate slow in and slow out principle from timing principle. But timing is the principle that defines slow in and slow out principle and other subordinating actions linked with it. Animators spend most of their time getting their timing principle perfect. This particular principle takes a keen observation and precision to get the animation to perfection. One who has mastered the art of

timing principle can be do wonders while using it with

exaggeration as another principle.

DELHI SAFARIDELHI SAFARIProfessionals sharing their intelect.

Most of us were present for the seminar on the movie DELHI SAFARI and yes it was

awesome, getting to know so much, meeting people such as Mr. Nishit Takya, Mr. Anand Bhanushali, Mr. Vaibhav Moore it was amazing so now I am going to give you a little jest of what took place over here.

It all started at lunch hours, in fact earlier that’s because of all the setup that had to be done by the Anivolution team and the faculty. So the event started and you got to trust me when say everyone was in for a treat. Sumeet sir was the first one to get on-stage and welcome everyone and told us who we were going to meet today and what we would learn. Shortly afterwards Mr. Nishint Takya (Director and Co-founder of Krayon Pictures.) took the stage and told us how lucky we guys are to be in this profession he told us and I quote “we are the only people who make stuff that people are going to remember and that is in the form of movies”. So that is a pat on the back for all animators, personally I am going to remember that.

After that none other than the man Mr. Anand Bhanushali (Technical Director at Krayon Pictures) took over the podium and that my friends was when the real fun started. He gave a really interesting talk and told us all about adding fur, composting and various textures, shades to the various elements of the movie especially the notorious monkey “Bajrangi”. He told us that its really important to maintain certain objectives while doing something like this no matter what the size of the project, he told us that we students have to be open to criticism and we should always strive to improve. He also told us a lot of interesting facts and trivia of the movie which left us struck awe, and we were lucky to see

a special sneak peak of the movie Delhi Safari need i say more?

Then was the time for a “Pooch tacch session” if you know what I mean and well for those who asked questions they got a free Delhi Safari T-shirt. During this session he told us of the various work they did, how complicated it was, why did they choose these characters, a small peak of his early life andfew line from his mentors who always told him to find out the answers to his problems by himself and rarely ask him.

But every good thing must come to an end, Mr. Anand concluded the session and left but not before getting an outstanding applause. After that Rajeev Sir took to the stage and gave the vote of thanks as well as a few tips for those present there on working hard.

So I will have to say please catch Delhi Safari which is India’s first 3D stereoscopic animated film releasing on the 19th of October 2012, to have one of the best experiences in your life. And remember

WEBSITE DESIGNING :

Website designing workshop was conducted by Miss. Tanvi Vasani for the students to get a basic knowledge to make a website. The workshop was very helpful and informative for the students. It ended with a small project of designing a website of 5 pages.

Miss. Tanvi explained us various kinds of websites. Later, she explained to us the elements of designing a website. Colour theory is one very important thing that has to be kept in mind while designing a website, and for that ma’am taught the colour theory in detail. She also elaborated on the principles of web designing i.e. Balance, Contrast, Emphasis, Rhythm and Unity. The students till the end of the session learned how to design a website in Photoshop, and slicing it accordingly, and making it ready for hosting. At the end ma’am taught us how to host a website.

The master class was very good and every student made a website at the end of the day.

DIGITAL PANTING :

Master class of Digital Painting was one of the most awaited workshop amongst the students. The session was conducted by Miss. Amruta Javeri.

In this session the students learned tips and tricks to make a portrait. They learned how to create an eye in detail in the session. Face cut and eye is very important in any portrait. The Resolution must be checked before pa in t ing the image. As a low resolution

image will lead to pixilation of the image. The ideal

resolution for an image should be between 150

to 300. Miss. Amruta taught us how to

handle opacity and blending modes while making a

digital painting. The workshop was

amazing and each student made an eye at the end of the

workshop.

Z BRUSH :

A Sculpting software which

helps in making game models with smooth and low poly-counts. The informative session was conducted by Mr. Shailesh Sinha. It started of with showing some demo show-reel of professionals. Covering the interface as well some advance knowledge. Basic knowledge was shared right from importing to exporting a .obj files. Also advance knowledge was shared on how to create a model without using software like Maya and 3Ds Max. The appropriate use of Z-Brush was shown. I n the pipeline of sculpting Z-Brush is linked with many 3D modelling software. So the exact use of Z-Brush was shown. Not only is it used for sculpting but also for creating characters from scratch. There are various brushes which are very helpful for creating or rather sculpting the model. Each of them has a special purpose and many of them were discussed. The tools were discussed but there was still more to share and time was the only barrier, else enthusiasm gripped the host as well as the crowd.

ANIMATION :

Two days of peer pleasure and fun of doing animation. It started with a small session of meditation and little guessing game. This master class was head by Mr. Bhaskar Nandgaonkar and he shared his knowledge with the students. The knowledge was about basics in animations but these basics also had many hidden truths and facts. After the meditation session some motivation was required so that food for brains was given by showing some professional show reels.

Animation master class is incomplete with acting session, even that session was conducted. Basic animation session has to have some walk cycles, so human walk cycle was taught using key frames. Graph editor one of the most important tools used for animation for smoothing the moments and for fine tuning. Animation principles a must for any presentation or session, even the 12 principles were covered with demonstrations. Merging more than two animations was also taught which is also known as Track Editor. Basics were covered in details and students are looking forward for an advance class.

Internet has become one of the most important means of communication today. The Internet is a global system of

interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet protocol suite to serve billions of users worldwide. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support email. Distance is no more a factor to be considered to make the communication difficult, all thanks to the Internet.

Web sites are the lifelines of the internet. Hence the scope in web designing is tremendous and career opportunities are very good. With the unavoidable need of websites, the companies want to hire efficient people, who can create professional websites. These professionals are required in every field of the industry from large firms to educational institutes, to small business to personal uses. There are two categories of websites-

1. Static Website- The static website design is a simple website design. This kind of website is helpful for small business houses and even for individuals. These kinds of sites do not require much of maintenance and hence can be made for a low cost.

2. Dynamic Website- Dynamic websites are those whose pages change dynamically. Dynamic pages can change every time when they are loaded without making any changes, and can also change their content based on the user’s click on various text or images. These kind of sites need a lot of scripting and coding and has to be maintained and reviewed timely. The cost of these websites is high. These sites are used by high end business houses and big organisations.

The salary in this job has a wide range. It depends upon what kind of work is done. In the beginning, i.e. trainees normally receive salary between Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 10,000 p.m. After the training session the salary is somewhere between Rs. 20,000 to

Rs. 40,000 p.m. As you gain better experience and

average gun shooting, car stealing and bone crushing game but it does not end here at all. In this game you play as Winston Chu who is an undercover cop and his mission is to control the growing menace of the triads in his home country of Hong Knog. So, but naturally you have to finish a lot of missions in order to achieve this goal and also gain experience points while doing so.You can gain experience points by completing various small in game missions such as karoke siging, races, martial arts tranning and completing missions for both the triads ad the police, it is done to improve your skill range. So guys you must be thinking that its the same as gta and what is so special. Well, its the story my friends and it is not something you should take lightly. It is power packed and explosive with suspense at every corner. the combat moves of this game is super cool and it gives you the exact feel of bone crunching and also the sinister happiness of bashing your enmies up and literally changing their entire looks. There is also a certain sense of gore in it as you can impale your enemies and perform a lot of other brutal killings. So I would not recommend this game for sensitive gamers. The remaining gameplay is quite s i m i l a r to GTA series. If you have played

The majority of the game consists of hand-to-hand fighting, which fits with both the setting of Hong Kong, and the chosen style of the game. The missions themselves are varied. One frequent issue with open world games is mission repetition. That is something that plagues all open world games of any length, but while Sleeping Dogs does

succumb to it at times, overall the game does a good job of keeping the missions feeling varied.Another good feature of this game is the adaptive difficulty as you progress through the game the difficulty increases for example the cops at the start of the game will ony chase you but as you improve they will even start to fire at you.

GRAPHICS AND VFX:

Now in terms of graphics, well it is certainly good and is enough to put it in the league of games like GTA IV and Batman Arkham City. Square Enix London studios has done quite a good job with the graphics and modelling and it is certainly noteworthy. The dailouges exchange in the game is also quite good and true to the story. Eventhough it is a mixture of chinese and english it does not sound weird or just downright bad. If you want to get bogged down in comparing this game to GTA and other sandbox games, knock yourself out — there is plenty of ammunition in the similarities with Sleeping Dogs. But if that isn’t an issue for you and hopefully it isn’t you are left with a great game that improves upon the medium i n almost every way. There could be a bit more content, and the firearms section is not nearly as good as the hand-to-hand, but those are minor issues.Another con would be the way the charaters are designed, they look a lot like dolls and lack that certain realistic feel. But also when it comes to the surroundings it is quite cool.

Whenever it rains during g a m e p l a y and if you are driving a car, if you perform a drift the water on the road also glides along with the movement of the car thats not something you usually see in all video Games.

FINAL VERDICT:

Sleeping dogs is an awesome game and it kept me stuck to my console. I will give it a 4/5.

This is a game that I recommend all gamers to play as they

will certainly b e

playing their money’s worth. So gamers hurry up and get it!

Romantic comedy meets touching storyline and results in Don’t Worry Be Barfi. Love needs no language and the movie very well speaks for the same. A story

of a deaf and dumb guy and an autistic girl is something remarkable in the history of Indian Cinema. The style of the movie is very different than the normal genre of movies in India.

Script:

The strongest part of the script is that there are no actual villains in the plot. The story revolves around a protagonist character Murphy ‘Barfi’ Johnson and his quest to live upto his responsibility of his ailing father. In his mischievous adventures Barfi meets Shruti. An engaged new girl steps in town soon to be married. Shruti falls in love with Barfi in their journey around the city. Shurti and Barfi’s love story did not last long and Shurti had to marry her fiancée due to her antagonist mother. After some time Barfi’s father falls ill and had to be hospitalized immediately, whose bills had to be paid by him. He seeks help from people but nothing in return. He also makes an unsuccessful attempt of robbing a bank and he starts being a nuisance for the society. Ran out of luck Barfi decides to kidnap his childhood friend Jhilmil.

She is an autistic patient and daughter of filthy rich man whose grandfather in his last moments leaves all his properties in a trust on Jhilmil’s name and her parents on salary of the trust. The twist in the plot out here is that Jhilmil is already kidnapped. Barfi re-kidnaps her and successfully receives

the ransom amount that he asks for. When Barfi reaches hospital he learns that his father had passed away. Depressed and low-spirited he tries to leave Jhilmil at her caretaker’s village but she refuses

to leave him and they soon move to Kolkata.

In Kolkata Jhilmil and Barfi found true love in each other. Another twist to the plot is when Barfi meets Shruti again. She expresses him about

her unhappy marriage life, and rekindles their friendship. Jhilmil becomes jealous of Barfi and Shruti’s friendship and runs away, and that is how she goes missing. Shruti files a missing person’s report for Jhilmil. The Darjeeling police learn about the report and resume their pursuit of Barfi and arrest him. As the police was traumatizing Barfi another ransom demand is asked for Jhilmil but she somehow gets killed in the exchange process. However her body is never found and to wrap up the case the police tries to frame Barfi for her killing. Investigating officer another character introduced in first half of the movie Saurabh Shukla who was in Barfi’s pursuit since long takes pity on Barfi and asks Shruti to take him away. Shruti hopes to stay with her true love but Barfi is deeply affected by Jhilmil’s loss and finds living with Shruti unfulfilling. He plans to visit the autistic center where Jhilmil had spent her childhood days and takes Shruti along with him. It is revealed that Jhilmili is still alive, her kidnapping and death had been cooked up so that Jhilmil could be sent back to her old autistic center, away from her alcoholic mother and her greedy father. Barfi re-unites with Jhilmil and they marry each other, while Shruti spends the rest of her days alone, regretting to lose the opportunity to be with Barfi. As the movie approaches present time, Jhilmil is besides ailing Barfi’s hospital bed and they both die, while Shruti narrates her childhood dream of dying besides her true love.

Verdict:

There is a lot to learn from the movie, although it is a copy of many old classics. They show each and every action or dialogue exaggerated freely. The character of Barfi played by Ranbir Kapoor is acted really well, although he had mute character yet he was able to connect himself with the audience very well. There was no part in the film where you would find yourself lost. It’s a movie you must see. An inspiration for deaf and dumb, the autistics, as well as normal people, it teaches one to live their life to the fullest, in any sort of a situation. The location chosen is very beautiful and they have been successful in giving the location an old look. They have shown a love story, which is never ending, and love in which the couple is neither sick nor tired of each other and always are together supporting one another. Till the end they were with each other and died also together.

A mute love story with full of voice

Movie Review

Barfi has some of the scene imitated from classics. The much appreciated hit and also short-listed for Oscars, Anurag Basu’s Barfi faces many plagiarism

charges. Some of the scenes in the movie barfi are lifted from classics of 1950’s to 1980’s. There are many tweeters and bloggers who are updating their blogs with such scenes. If not only the scenes but also the theme tune of Barfi composed by Pritam is being alleged to be lifted. After so much of acquisitions I wonder, will the barfi’s sweetness be sweet enough now to get it to at-least nominations of Oscars?

Some of the scenes that the bloggers posts I went through them and found out some are exact copy of it

where some are shot better than original. At the same time the allegation of the idea being inspired from Johnny Depp starrer Benny and Joon, I would say there are so many movies related to such deaf and dumb cases. Barfi is heavily criticized of taking the whole scenes rather than just inspirations. The acting firstly represents to an extent like that of Mime God Charlie Chaplin. There is no harm in taking inspirations for a particular movie but it needs to be given acknowledgments. Let’s discuss some of the scenes which are a replica of other classics.

Ranbir Kapoor plays hide-and-seek with Saurabh Shukla’s cop character using a sliding door. The similar sequence is from Charlie Chaplin’s 1917 short film, The Adventurer.

This particular sequence where Ranbir sits on a sofa with a dummy and tries to entertain Priyanka is lifted or as they say is inspired from Singin’ in the Rain.

Samsung with its range of Android Phones in the market ,has come up with yet another Androidbot Galaxy Note 10.1.Having said about range of android phones in the

market all that pops up in everyone’s mind is that “Galaxy Rules the market” with such a huge success in last two quarters thanks to the Invincible Galaxy SIII. Coming back to the latest addition to the imperial family of galaxy that is Note 10.1 get all eyes gazed at its sleek and glossy look with a well enhanced fine tuned S pen experience, multi screen function.

Design: This Androidbot diagonally measures 10.1 inch display in the front, matte enclosure at the sides along with the arrangements of the proprietary charging slot on the bottom edge, dual speaker set up on the front, volume rocker to boost up the dual speakers, micro sd slot extendable upto 64 GB, infrared blaster in handy as a remote control a additional usage of the tab, 3.5mm headphone jack and a complete blank towards the back showcasing the Samsung brand. Packed in a signature plastic enclosure and glossy look is a eye catcher.

Features: The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 offers both the power of touch and portability with some creative tools like Photoshop Touch and much more. The 1.4GHz Quad Core processor combined with 2GB RAM makes it ‘wanted’ Gadget with capability of multi tasking which allows the screen to split between different apps at the same time like watching a video while doing other task. As the pop-up screen is upto the user to decide how it should be the multi tasking is said to be at its best. As we had seen the popular advertisement of Galaxy SIII where the phone goes to sleep once it senses the eyes are not on the screen well it is truly designed for humans and the same feature has been retained in Note 10.1.The S Pen is light and thin and with its enhanced features like rubber tip, pressure sensitive and accurate pin point it creates the feeling of using an actual pen and paper. It also has some three great unique features shape match, word match and formula match for which you don’t have to bother thinking while the note will note down the necessary corrections. With the addition of Adobe Photoshop Touch the industry standard in digital image creation is one fine slot being filled in the hearts of many people like me who love to digitally play around and improvise on the

go. More to the powerful processor and memory, the Note is equipped with a 10.1” screen with crystal clear 1080 Full HD playback and with connectivity feature super fast HSPA+ data speed and double wi-fi speed going online is god speed. Apart from all the above features mentioned there is a lot more to explore as the saying goes ‘research and develop’.

Verdict: Much has been hyped about the ICS operating system to be upgraded to up coming jelly bean operating system for Note 10.1, the reason being is the speed of ICS being a touch slower in comparison with Jelly Bean. All i can say to all the galaxy lovers keep an eye for the upgraded bean. At least to me I would fall for any galaxy phone as long as its packed with features like this one.

Sony Xperia Ion:

Sony Xperia less ericsson after the whole rebranding by the company has come up with some impressive smart phones lately. Samsung and Apple going on with some serious cut

to cut competition Sony is not lagging far behind. Xperia Ion being the latest addition to its smart look of branding. As for Ion the highlights would be LTE 4G network, impressive visual experience, powerful 1.5GHz dual core processor, boastful 12 megapixel rare camera and more obviously so with its play station certification is another feather to its hat.

Design:The not so sleek look of it, may not be appealing to all. Though with its bold look and sharp angles is something we don’t usually see these days. Ion having a 4.6 inch diagonally measured display is fairly large and easy to handle smart phone. A scratch resistant mineral coating laid atop the display.Whereas the back is aluminum brushed and durable enough for one’s liking. The 12mp rear camera adds to the smartness at the back along with a speaker grill further down and also the two strips of soft touch plastic breaks the back into segments. The top part of the strip houses a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a micro SIM slot, a vacant micro-SD slot and a fixed piece at the bottom above which you’ll find Xperia logo. The dedicated hardware keys power, volume rocker and camera button side mounted and a delicate flap on the other side of the edge that encloses ports for micro HDMI and micro USB.

Features: Well speaking of features one of the main highlights would be the mobile version of its Sony’s bravia engine as the name suggest is the same system Sony uses on its bravia line of HD television. It also has a micro-HDMI-out port, plus a compatible dock that enables viewing on larger displays. This means users can play music, view photos and even send SMS messages using the TV. 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon processor encored in the device makes it a powerful one giving Ion the credit of much higher quadrant as compared to its other counterparts in the market with the likes of Galaxy Note and Spectrum. With a 720p front facing camera and 1080p capable 12mp rear camera with Exmorr R Sensor which enables a amazing, detailed full HD video recording and still images which is very much impressive for a phone. Research and Develop should be the motto to unlock

the features within as Ion has lot more to offer .

Verdict: When it comes to the Android platform, Ion is running on the outdated 2.3 Gingerbread which should eventually move up to ICS Android 4.0 so stay tuned .With some exciting features with that of the HD display combined with 12 mp cameras and with the inclusion of 4G LTE is a great grab. It’s outdated OS, heavier and thicker than the other competing smart phones and hard to read buttons are some of the cons which get into a ‘Think Twice’ situation as the saying goes money has to get its worth, Right?

This game revolves around, a hygiene conscious alligator whose bathing room is trapped below

sand. The game is designed very well and the makers of it have given a nice thought to make the game interesting and viral. This game is running on iOS and Android, all the finger touch gamers have this game installed in their cell phones for $0.99 and Rs55 on respective platforms. The maker of this app is none other than Disney Studios. There are 10 different scenarios and each scene has 20 levels advancing towards difficulty.

Game Play:- The game play is very interesting and easy. This game is from puzzle genre, in which the player has to with the help of finger needs to carve out a path in sand till the alligator whose waiting some distance below. Reaching till the alligator is very easy in the beginning but as the scenarios and levels advances the difficulty increases gradually. Before the start of any scenario it shows a cut scene of the alligator which helps to know what is that one particular element hidden below the sand. Playing the game is very simple. With the help of finger carve the path and make sure water reaches till the alligator safe and sound. There is one more interesting element in the game and that is the rubber duck, I do not know why an alligator would want to have a bath with rubber duck but it is one of the funny elements. The rubber duck is in the sand visible to the player and resting dry. To make it more challenging each duck represents the star and the water needs to reach to them first and then to the alligator for bathing. Strange is the concept of the game but it does amazes me with its

interactivity and graphics.

Graphics and Features:- The graphics of the game are very decent, beautiful and it looks aesthetical. The backgrounds and characters are amazingly designed. The animation has taken proper care and given good treatment. The water animation is little rigid but I think it is apt for the game to give such a cartoonish animation to the water. There are other features also in the game which needs to be taken care of while taking water till the alligator. All of them, the toxic waste, gates (which blocks water and make a new path) and green moss (which obstructs the flow) are enemy of water. There is one more character the antagonist alligator which taunts and teases the protagonist in a very funny manner. The sound sync of the game and the background sounds that runs during the game is fantastic.

Pros and Cons:- The game all together is a proper package of entertainment and fun. It engrosses the player and makes a part of the game. It is a very good stress buster and Disney Studios has taken care that it does not create a problem as they have adesigned the game to be very light on the processors. This game lacks multi-user or any sorts of connectivity but it is not at all required. The cuteness of the alligator and wittiness of the game has made it an viral app.

Candies! For aliens! Really?Candies! For aliens! Really?

This is a really interesting game. It is about how the candy makes its way to the frog. Usually a living thing

(alien) moves but in this game the non living thing (candy) moves and gets eaten by this little monster and it is named “Om Nom”. The game runs on iOS and Android devices and the full game is for $0.99 and Rs.53. It is developed by zeptolab and is published by chillingo, they are popular in the game industry. There are 300 levels and all are different to play and yet more keep on updating. It’s like a never ending game.

GAMEPLAY In the starting of the game there is a small introduction of how this little monster comes to someone’s house and the person has to feed Om Nom. It is from the puzzle genre and a really fun game. In few stages there more than one ropes. One has to actually cut the ropes to which the candy is attached. Collect all the stars to score the maximum amount of points. One has to cut the rope in such a way that the candy collects all the three stars and then goes in the alien’s mouth. No level is same at all; it gets tougher level by level. New obstacles; like spikes, spiders, electric sparks, etc, as you upgrade in the game. There are helping objects; like bubbles, air cushions, rope hooks to help you complete the level and many more obstacles and helping objects you get to encounter.

GRAPHICS AND FEATURES The background changes after each scenario, with each containing 25 levels. They have given the alien good animations; like he will cry if the candy falls down or hits the spike or any obstacles that are trying to make you lose and he will blink and bounce merely till the candy gets to him and once the candy approaches him he will open his mouth and wait for it to go in his mouth. When the spiders are in the level they try to steal the frog’s candy. The bubbles make the candy float, the spikes break the candy, so all the different obstacles and helping objects have different functions. Different levels are in different boxes as shown in the game.

PROS AND CONS It is really an awesome game to play and a good way to pass some time. At the same time it increases ones curiosity to play more and explore all the interesting new levels. The background sound gets a little monotonous and is not that interesting as it should have been. But the game play overwhelms it and makes it fun to play again and again, although it’s a onetime game play; that means if you complete the game once it’s no fun playing the whole game again.

Fruit Ninja is a juicy action game enjoyed by millions of players around the world. This game is developed by

Halfbrick Studios. Fruit Ninja achieved lots of success in a very short period of time. It is one of the most popular and most played games in the world. It is available on both iOS as well as Android operating systems. Fruit Ninja is a fun filled and addictive game which is guaranteed to keep you locked in your seats.

GAMEPLAY- It is very easy to play Fruit Ninja. In this game the player must slice fruits that are thrown onto the screen. Just by swiping your finger across the screen fruits like a Ninja warrior. While playing the game you should also be careful about bombs which are thrown among the fruits. This game has three modes to play which are Classic, Zen and Arcade mode.

Classic mode - In Classic mode you have to slice as much fruits as you can, and avoid slicing the bombs, which will end the game. You get three lives, you will lose a life every time you drop a fruit or you lose the game when you slice the bomb.

Zen mode- This is the quick play mode of the game. The game play is exactly the same, the only difference being that there are no bombs that will appear nor do you have lives. The main objective of this mode is to score as many combo points as possible i.e. cut as many fruits as possible within the time limit.

Arcade Mode- This is my personal favourite. In this mode you have one minute to get as many points as possible, again no lives, but the bombs are there this time

which are thrown in-between the fruits while playing the game. There are several special bananas thrown into the mix, an ice banana freeze which slows down time, a double point banana doubles the points and the frenzy banana which sends in loads of fruits to gain maximum amount of points.

PROS AND CONS- Fruit Ninja is an excellent game but it also has certain negative features. On the bright side it is an entertaining, addictive, stress relieving game. This game is perfect for a fun way to pass time in boring situation. Graphics used in this game are great. The content which is locked makes the game more interesting to play.

On the other hand it lacks behind in certain things. When we play this game, it is simple, there is no way to adjust the difficulty levels. There should be difficult levels which could make the game much more exciting. The recent update which was issued for the game did not live up to certain expectations, instead of giving rewards in the form of more time it only gave an increase in the amount of points. That was a big letdown.

Fruit Ninja is available on iTunes for $0.99 and on Google Play Store for Rs 65.

TRAIN YOUR FINGERS TO BE NINJAS

Apps Review

An app that is really making some news and that is “TEMPLE RUN” This is an awesome game with

superb features and is guaranteed to give you loads of fun.

GAMEPLAY It is quite simple you are an adventurer who has just taken a precious artifact from an old forbidden temple and you are now been chased by three extremely angry monkey-demon type things you have to run away from them to safety but that is not all you have to do you also need to avoid a certain number of obstacles while doing so and trust me when I say that “ it is not a walk in the park” it starts of easy at first but as you progress the difficulty keeps on building up. This game is also based on collecting certain amount of coins in order to unlock certain power-ups and characters to make the game play easier and addictive.

GRAPHICS As for the graphics and 3d modeling welL. it is quite subpar when you compare it to those of Arkham city lockdown or infinity blade but you can overlook this part due to the immensely mind boggling and addictive game play which really brings it up a notch. I know what you are thinking you will have to

repeat and repeat the same thing or over and over again if you die (but that is kind of the game play right) and personally it never grows old.

PROS AND CONS Yes you must be hearing me say that the game is so addictive, you will have to see that for yourself especially when you get power-ups you will never want to leave the game. And as for what went wrong, the points you buy are exactly the same as the ones you can earn in-game. The situation boils down to you working for your points vs. you taking a shortcut and buying them and, at that point, if you’re quite stupid to pay for a cheat, you deserve to have your bank account drained.

Aside from the graphics and real world money issue its quite a nifty game to play and as I said before will really insure a lot of fun. It is released for the iOS and Android operating systems and is free for both.

On the spot music making, hours of time pass online, listening to your own creation without even knowing the basics of music and a possibility of getting your music

piece uploaded on the site for free. Sounds interesting? Well, it sure is. This is a brief and a totally incomplete introduction to the site incredibox.com. I have seen a lot many sites until now and have not found a site this simple, amusing and cool. The site has a very simple interface. It has just one main page and, that is it. All the fun is just stuffed in that one page

and I am sure people are going to love it. It is basically a site for people who have an interest in music and can really understand the ‘awesomeness’ of it. Once the site is clicked on, it gives a flash-animated intro of how to operate the site. Then the main character comes up and the site starts to load. It may take a while for the site to load since it has a lot of animation and music. Once the site is loaded, the main page comes up. It includes the main character in a window frame, and below it are some components of music like beats, rhythm, effects, etc. All the user has to do is to drag any effect or beat pattern and put it on the character. Once it is put, the character gets a typical outfit and a second one pops up. One can align

music to it. In the same way, up to 8 components can be played at the same time. There are no lyrics but the effects are similar to the beat-boxers.the alignment can be edited by removing an unwanted effect and dragging another one. The best part of all this is that all the components are readymade. One has to just drag it and enjoy. There is no need for any technical knowledge. Also, the aligned components synchronize themselves to the beats. Also, there is variety available in every section. By trial and error, one can get better and better results. That’s the basic ‘funda’ of the site. Other than this, the user can also download the tune created, or post it on the site for others to listen to it. There is also a system of upgradation. If you think that the music is good enough, you can apply for the second level by just a single click. The site checks if the music piece is good enough. If it is, then it

upgrades and you can get more than eight characters and more musical components to play with. The only problem with the site, that I found, is that the site is very heavy. It takes time to load. Also, if the machine on which it is being used does not support flash, the site is very much useless. Besides this minute flaw, incredibox.com is actually an incredible site for people to fiddle with for hours at end. The simple yet effective 2D animation is a treat for the eyes. And of course, the music is self made so it will sound great anyways.

So plug in your headphones, turn on the speakers and rock the jukebox. ENJOY!

Century Ply after taking a gap of four years has come up with their new Television Commercial. This commercial is also based on their campaign ‘Sab sahe

Mast rahe’, which they had launched in 2008. The company chose very interesting date to release the advertisement i.e. world anger day, 28th August 2012. The TVC has been conceptualized and created by Bates Kolkata.

The commercial starts with a huge angry gorilla throwing away cars and scaring a young boy eating chips. The gorilla then moves towards the house and bangs the door of a house which refuses to move even an inch. It then bangs the roof and breaks in. All of a sudden, the gorilla shrinks to a smaller size and starts chasing a man sitting at the dining table. The gorilla starts banging the table but it does not break. The gorilla then runs behind the man in the house breaking the things in the house on the way. The man runs towards the bedroom and hides inside the cupboard. The gorilla follows the man and then starts banging the door of the cupboard, which again stands as it is. The camera then moves towards the mirror in which instead of gorilla it is the man’s wife. She is extremely furious on him for forgetting their anniversary. In the background the voiceover says, “Chahey bhayanak gussa

ho ya bura termites century ply ka zabardast takat kuch bhi sahe sakta hai”. Towards the end of the commercial the couple is found sitting on the dining table celebrating their anniversary, where the man asks his wife about have long have they been married and the lady again changes into gorilla. The voiceover is again heard which now says “Century ply sab sahe mast rahe”.

The concept of the advertisement is very good. Strength and durability are two things that any plyboard user would look for, and the advertisement is focusing on

those qualities. The animation of the gorilla is good. It has been executed out pretty well. When the advertisement starts it definetly attracts the audiences and make them watch it, which is a very important thing in advertising and Bates Kolkata score good points for that. The story line of the ad is a little odd as, the terrified husband is

imagining his angry wife to be a gorilla, so why would she scare the kid outside the house and throw away the car. The shrinking gorilla was another thing which was a little strange. The background sound and sound effects were good and were in sync with the story.

In all the advertisement was funny and entertaining. Out of 5 I would give it 3.5.

Ad Review

Print media gives Vibes

Volkswagen India gave a shivery morning in the month of September to the news paper readers through the print advertisement that was printed

on Times of India, The Hindu and The Hindustan Times on 11th September 2012.

Volkswagen tried to surprise their users yet another time through the advertisement which had a vibrating device on the back of it. Earlier the company had attached an audio device with the news paper which talked about their car. They were successful in giving an early morning surprise to the readers of the Times of India, The Hindu and The Hindustan Times. Volkswagen is an innovative and a technically advanced company from Germany. For company like this the commercials also has to be innovative and a step ahead from the normal genre of advertising. 11th September’s the Time of India, The Hindu and The Hindustan Times is the proof of that.

The device that was attached was a LDR device. The device works when light passes through it. When the newspaper is close it does not vibrate, and when you open it light passes through the device and it starts vibrating.

The head line of the newspaper read “Feel the shiver of excitement?” where in they gave

the reader actual shiver with the help of the vibrating device. The advertisement

is about Polo and the Vento. The advertisement is urging people

to test drive the cars. It emphasises on all the features

and qualities of the cars.

One thing that I was wondering was how much the company might have spent on this commercial, as they bought the first leaflet of the news papers and above that they had that vibrator attached too. The cost must have blown the balance sheets of the company. The device was attached in 22.9 lakh newspaper copies. Out of 22.9 lakh, 2.58 lakh were in The Hindu, 3.41 lakh were in The Hindustan Times and the rest, i.e. 16.91 lakh were used in The Times of India.

The Times of India of Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Pune had this ad. The Hindustan Times in Delhi and The Hindu in Chennai also featured the ad in the same manner.

As a designer I put in a lot of effort when required. I had a few difficulties and problems that I faced in these months working with the magazine, but my mentors were always ready to help me. All I can say is that it is fun, joyful and I also got to learn a lot from this experience. I am quite happy with anivolution”

To make a good and cost efficient film

In our previous issue I had mentioned about writing the script and drafting the storyboard so strong that shooting becomes just a formality. Well,

it is true, but after investing so much of manhour and man power in the pre-production, it becomes the responsibility to bring out that film to the audiences or target audiences. When the film or a story reaches to the production stage it needs to be treated with care. If the pre-production is not strong then there are only two options either to strengthen the pre-production or to carry on the shoot and create a disaster.

There are many guidelines that need to be followed while the movie is in production stage. These guidelines are decided at the pre-production stage of film. Production of film has many loop holes that need to be solved before starting. Production stage of an animation movie and a live action movie is different. The research involved for the production stage of a live action is less strenuous. Whereas

the research and development required in an animation film is tremendous.

The basics for both of the genre are same.

Importance of shot-breakdown in production stage:

To link up with the previous topic I will discuss the importance of shot-breakdown sheet. Although it is just a

sheet of paper having tables and description of the shoots that have been covered, but it is the most important sheet on field. Once shot breakdown is synced with the

storyboard it becomes very easy to decide whether to shoot a video linearly or non-linearly. If a shoot is executed linearly

it is easy to edit the movie in the post-production stage. Non-linear shoots are often big budgeted shoots in which the production unit shifts their sets and changes the locations. Maximum Bollywood movies are shot in non-linear manner and their last scenes are shot first. I could never understand why but just to guess, it may be an agreement between the actors and directors that nobody can leave each other till the time movie is not completed. On student level it is always advisable to shoot the movie linearly as the budgets are small and also the production time would reduce accordingly. To reduce the production time it is very much

important to

follow deadlines. It is of utmost importance to follow the shoot schedules. It is also necessary to have a back-up plan. If the shoot does not happen due to some unfortunate error or technical error there should be a back-up plan.

How to reduce production cost (local available actors and other stuff):

For Live Action: Making movies on a student level, the biggest question that pop in mind is how to make a cost efficient movie? Well the answer is, ’keep it simple silly.’ Yes, the Tata Docomo advertisement says it. On a student level it is very easy to dream of shooting with moon and stars in the background but it is always a big question of executing it. To reduce all the pains of taking a loan for your shoot from you dear ones and shooting complicated scene structures, it is always better to think and write of a simple script, with apt ideas to support it. If the story requires characters, then convincing yours friends to play the roles is the best. Friends will want a small party for that or maybe not. At production stage, ‘every money saved is a money treasured’. Try to schedule shoots at daytime or when the sun is in the sky. It will help in shooting with nominal equipments without the use of lights and high end DV-Cameras.

For Animation Movies:

On student level there are no cost involved as it is done without any budget but it is done with whole lot of passion. Still on a student level there are many things involved that needs to be considered to lower down the cost. Assembling a strong team for working and dividing the work according to skill set and filling in each others position will help the animation on student level be better as well as cost efficient.

How to select/study location (scouting):

For Live Action: This process is popularly known as scouting. It helps in reading the location properly. At professional level this process should be rigorous as it involves in reading the environment and having a

proper site layout. This is done to make sure that when the crew is ready with its set there should not be any flaws or any material left behind as it can hinder the shoot. On a student level this is also important as it involves in taking photos and sample videos of the location. Scouting helps in reducing the time as well as the cost of the movies.

Guidelines to deal with:

For Live Action:

While shooting in public there are many problems faced. Most of them are from the passerby giving free advices and disturbing the shoot. To handle them there are 2 options:Either explain them what is going on and make them the spot helpers or temporary crew for the shoot. This is advisable if you are the only one during the shoot. Those guys can help a lot and can handle their natives easily.

The next option is you take their advices and just agree of what they have to say. It is much easier but can be demotivating. So it is good to be patient and calm during shoots.

The second major problem faced during shoots is Police or the area in charge coming and inquiring. To them it is the most difficult task as they are the law protectors and need to know each and every detail properly. To them it is very necessary to explain very humbly and politely. At times being over smart in these cases helps a lot. If there is a guard trying to be a spoilsport then he can be handled by being smart and to an extent rude. It is very necessary to hear the argument made by Police and valid replies should be given. Also on a student level it is very important to have a proper letter of the institution. If shooting at historical or heritage sites then to have permissions is a must.

For Animation:

As far animation is concerened there is only one question to tackle. This question is pretty much irritating and can make you frutrated. This question is asked by the people who know that you are working an animation film which is difficult and has many hurdles that come in the way. The magical question is,” in how much time will you finish whatever is that you are doing?” else it is sometime reframed as, “what is it that you are doing so much? Are you even working?”. Well for such questions I would recommend or probably say from experience stay calm and keep your cool. Just reply that it is coming out in next couple of weeks. Such questions bring darkness in your life but they are fun to handle and to deal with. Show some respect and peace and make them understand as what is it that you are into.

How to deal with technical problems for animation:

On any level there are many problems that arise. It is very important to have a team member with a strong hold of technical knowledge. The entire member should be efficient in their work. Technical problems arise in each software or working environment. To handle it and solve it is when a person becomes efficient.

Resource management:

For Live Action:

Carrying extra resources for live action is always advisable. These resources should not be other than camera batteries, memory cards, other useful handy products and especially cleaning kit for emergencies. Talking about emergencies, keeping some extra money is also very thoughtful. All this is good enough as carrying some extra resources for live action. For Animation:

When it comes to animation rendering is the only thing that gives nightmares to the team. To tackle this problem it is much better to install respective rendering software on the all the machines which are capable of rending with the respective software. Render small sequence so that there is no stress on machine. Else the whole pressure comes on the machine at the end and it tends to lag and crash.

Parent’s Interview

“It was a very proud moment for us to see our son receiving the experience letter by working in the magazine while doing his studies. I feel that it is a very good step taken by the institute of keeping this meeting. Parents need to know what their children are doing and take care of what complains the teachers have. All the faculty members are very encouraging and supportive. I am very happy to see the progress he has made till now. I hope and look forward for him to improve and do his work sincerely.”

“It was a very good to visit Arena Animation Andheri for a parent-teacher meet for the second time. At the same time I was shocked that there were no complaints of my son. The last time I remember I had been called it was for witnessing his complaint list. I now feel that my son has changed and trying to become serious in life. I met the faculty in person and got to know more about the future of this industry as well as the future of my son in this industry. The faculty out here is very helpful and they really invest their time in delivering their hard learned knowledge. I liked the way the faculty interacted and explained to me everything. She also showed me my son’s work and no doubt it was good.”

-Mrs. Sangeeta Sharma

“It is very important for the parents to know how their child is faring in their academics. The meeting proved to be very helpful to me as I came to know how my son is performing. The teachers showed me the assignments that he had done and explained them all too. After this meeting I started seeing my son from a different angle. Now I have confidence in my son that he will be able to stand on his feet in his life, and the credit for this goes to the teachers who have trained the students so well. The faculty members are very good. One thing that I liked about the faculty was they try and bring the best from every student of theirs. They not only help the good students but also weak students to come forward and do good and quality work.”
