THE FAMILY APOSTOLATENEWS FROM DEPARTMENTS

HOME MISSION“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Cor 9:15)

The first Home Mission of the Apostolic Exarchate for the Syro-Malabar Catholics in Canada was

conducted in St. Mother Teresa parish, Niagara from 9-18 of March 2018. It was a time of God’s

abundant graces like the Niagara Falls and anointing of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. Each

and every family, the Team visited, experienced it.

Rev. Fr. John Mylamvelil, the pastor, stayed in these days in the parish hearing confessions, blessing

the houses, offering every day the Holy Mass and spending the time in prayer. The Kaikarans, Parish

Council Members and Family Unit Representatives arranged the time schedule, conveyance, food,

etc. Their enthusiasm and team spirit are really appreciable!

Six Reverend Sisters (3 Holy Family, 2 CMC and 1 Apostolic Oblates) formed the team of Home

Mission.

The family of Eldrid and Babitha offered accommodation for the Sisters. The cooperation rendered by

them was wonderful! The whole house was set apart for the use of the Sisters keeping one bed room

for the family members. With a room to preserve Holy Eucharist, for Adoration and prayer; a big hall

for daily Holy Mass, four bed rooms and kitchen at the disposal, the Sisters felt at home there and

called it their convent.

The Sisters visited the families according to the schedule; and met 32 international students personally.

With spiritual sharing, praying together and finding solutions in the light of the Word of God the

family and individuals could strengthen their relations and get a spiritual renewal in their life. The

classes given at prayer meetings of the visited families and the intercessory prayers helped them lot.

On 18th March, the final day, there a half day retreat was conducted by Rev. Fr. Saji CMI in the Jim of St.

Patrick Church. Our Bishop, Mar Jose Kalluvelil, celebrated the Holy Mass with Fr. John Mylamvelil.

During the Holy Mass the couples renewed their marriage covenant. There was opportunity for

confession. Fr. Martin Augustin SDB helped to hear confessions.

All who were visited by the Sisters shared that the Home Mission was a wonderful, unfathomable

experience of spiritual renewal for them and their families.

Truly the Home Mission was an occasion to renew the domestic churches (families) and thus the

parish as a whole by sharing the Joy of the Holy Spirit with and within.
