1. Applications are invited from unmarried Male candidates for grant of PermanentCommission (PC) in the Education Branch of the Indian Navy for Coursecommencing July 2010 at Indian Naval Academy (INA) Ezhimala, Kerala.Candidates to fulfil condition of nationality as laid down by the Government ofIndia.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS2. Age: 21 to 25 years (i.e. born between 02 Jul 1985 & 01 Jul 1989; both dates

inclusive).3. Educational Qualification:

(a) BE/B Tech in Mech/Electronics /Electrical /Computer Science/IT/Telecommunication and BE/B Tech (EEE/ECE) with minimum 60% marks

Or(b) A Master’s Degree in one of the following with minimum 50% marks

Physics (with Maths in B.Sc.) , Maths (with Physics in B.Sc.), Chemistry,Computer Application (with physics or Maths in B.Sc.) Computer Science(with physics or Maths in B.Sc.), IT, English and History.

Note: Candidates who have not completed their Degree (i.e. appearingcandidates) need not apply.

4. PHYSICAL STANDARDS(a) Height and Weight. Minimum height Male-157 cms with correlated weight.(b) Eye Sight. 6/60, 6/60 correctable to 6/6, 6/12 with glasses and should not

Note: Application sent by Speed Post / Regd Post / Courier will not be accepted.SELECTION PROCEDURE6. (a) Candidates will be issued call up for Service Selection Board (SSB) interviews

based on their performance in educational qualification. If a candidate possesseshigher qualification with better percentage, his higher qualification will be consideredfor cut off. Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) (IHQ-MoD (Navy))reserves the right to short-list applications and to fix cut off percentage withoutassigning any reason. No communication will be entertained on this account

(b) SSB interviews for short-listed candidates will be scheduled during Jan to Jun 2010at Bangalore, Bhopal or Coimbatore.

(c) The SSB interview is conducted over five days in two stages. Stage-I includesinteligence Test, Picture Perception test and Group discussion and is conducted onthe first day. Stage-II includes Psychological Tests, Group Task and personalinterview conducted over the balance four days. Candidates failing to qualify aparticular stage would be sent back the same day. Successful candidates wouldthen have to clear a special medical examination at the same venue (approx duration3-5 days).

(d) Candidates recommended by the SSBs and declared medically fit will be appointedfor training in order of all India Merit depending on the number of vacancies.

(e) Change of SSB centre for interview is not permissible under any circumstances.(f) Candidates who wish to change their SSB dates, must apply to the President of the

SSB.(g) No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained during the selection

process.(h) Candidates appearing for SSB interview for the first time for this entry would be

eligible free rail sleeper class return fare.TRAINING7. The training is scheduled to commence in July 2010.8. Candidates will be inducted as officers in the rank of Sub Lieutenant and

undergo Naval Orientation Course at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala,Kerala, followed by professional training at various Naval TrainingEstablishments/Units/Ships. Full pay and allowances are admissible toofficers whilst under training. They will be on probation for a period of twoyears, during which they are liable to be discharged if their performance isunsatisfactory.

9. Only unmarried candidates are eligible to undergo training. Any candidatewho is found to be married or marries while under training will be discharged.He shall be liable to refund full pay & allowances drawn by him and theexpenditure incurred on him by the Government.

DUTIES OF EDUCATION OFFICER10. Education officers are responsible for Scientific and Technical instructions in

Training Ships & Establishments such as Training Squadron, Naval College ofEngineering, National Defence Academy, Indian Naval Academy (BTech Course),College of Defence Management etc. Avenue to specialise in Meteorology &Oceanography/ Naval Communications/Anti Submarine Warfare/Gunnery/Navigation & Direction/ Hydrography/IT and MTech Courses also available.Education officers will also be responsible for control and co-ordination ofSchooling/Libraries/Academic facilities, Distance Education, Navalexaminations (On/Off line), development of Training Design and Evaluationand Human Resources.

12. Pay Scale & Promotions. The promotion from Sub Lieutenant to Commanderis on time scale basis and thereafter on selection basis subject to fulfilment ofrequisite service condition. The Pay Scale and promotion criteria is as follows:-

14. Privileges. Free Medical Facilities for Self & dependents, canteen Facilities, EntitledRation, Mess/Club/Sports Facilities, Furnished Govt. Accommodation, Car/Housing Loan atsubsidised rate.15. Group Insurance & Gratuity. Insurance cover of Rs. 30 lakhs (on contribution) andGratuity will be granted to the officer as per the latest rules in vogue.16. Leave Entitlements. On Commission, officers are entitled to 60 days annual and 20days casual leave every year (subject to service exigencies). They are also entitled for40% rail concession to any place and free travel (as per extant rules) for self and family.Leave during training period will be as per the Training Policy in vouge.17. Sports & Adventure. The Navy provides facilities to pursue any sport of your liking.In addition, one can learn and participate in adventure sports, such as river rafting,mountaineering, hot air ballooning, hang gliding, wind surfing etc.

18. Physical fitness. In Naval Academy curriculum, a lot of emphasis is laid on physicalfitness. You are therefore, advised to build up yourself by physical training, sports, running,swimming, etc. so that you meet the training goals successfully.
