Pultruded FRP Doors Providing Durability and Performance in the Harshest Environments

Equally Durable Framing and AccessoriesOur FRP framing products are also manufactured using the pultrusion process, offering the same advantages as our pultruded doors, and are available in depths of 5-3/4", 6-3/4", 7-3/4" and 8-3/4". Frames up to 4' wide are factory assembled, or can be knocked down (KD) as an option. Frames over 4' wide are KD as standard. Heads can be either 2" or 4". Custom frames can be fabricated in depths from 4-1/2" up to whatever you need. Frame anchors can be specified for new construction or retrofit installations. Complete your door system with our 5-3/4" wide FRP thresholds, available in saddle or bumper styles.

Our Warranty is a Statement of ConfidenceUniversal Pultrusions is the only industrial door manufacturer to offer a 10-year parts and labor warranty against failure due to defects in materials or workmanship, including delamination, core expansion, and warp. We also extend a lifetime warranty against failure due to corrosion.

Fixed or removable pultruded center posts are available to match standard frame depths.

Removable pultruded rim mullions add functionality to meeting pair openings.

Frames are reinforced for anchoring into existing masonry, as standard. Additional anchoring options are available.

Pultruded frames are predrilled for wall anchors and prepped for butt hinges, if specified.

In 1986, Universal Pultrusions pioneered the manufacture of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) doors by the pultrusion process. Today, we’re still the only door manufacturer that pultrudes a heavy-duty FRP industrial door. Our all-fiberglass door and frame products are dimensionally and aesthetically equivalent to hollow metal products, but offer performance, durability and longevity that hollow metal just can’t match.

Since fiberglass cannot corrode, rot, or rust, our products are ideal for corrosive environments that quickly destroy even stainless steel doors. These include industrial facilities where regular sanitization is required, such as clean rooms, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and food processing, as well as locations that by their nature are inherently corrosive to steel doors, such as petrochemical plants, pulp and paper mills, wastewater treatment facilities, and marine applications.

A Complete Solution for any Industrial OpeningWe offer complete door opening solutions consisting of doors, frames, vision lites, borrowed lites, louvers, mullions, center posts, and thresholds that are ideal for any type of industrial application, new construction or retrofit. All Universal Pultrusions doors are 1-3/4" thick and come in standard widths of 32", 36", 42" and 48". Custom widths up to 5' are also available. Maximum door height is 22'. Pultruded FRP vision lites and louvers are available in a variety of standard sizes or custom sizes. All standard industry hardware can be used with our FRP doors, so you can specify the exact door and hardware combination you need.

The Pultrusion Process Our exclusive door panel manufacturing process begins with a high-density, closed-cell polyurethane foam core panel. This core reduces the weight of the door without diminishing its strength, and provides excellent thermal performance. Multiple layers of glass fiber reinforcing fabrics envelop both sides of the core panel as it moves through the process— a woven layer for impact resistance, two layers of random continuous filament for flexural strength, and a fine veil top layer to provide a smooth surface finish. These glass reinforcements wrap around the panel edges from both sides to greatly improve structural properties.

An FDA- and USDA-compliant resin fully saturates the glass fiber fabrics before the door panel enters a profile die, where the reinforcements are compressed around the core panel. The resin fully cures around the core as the panel passes through the heated portion of the die. A constant pulling force draws the door panel through the process, and pulls in more materials behind it, in an automated, continuous process.

Completely Sealed for ReliabilityThis process produces a hermetically sealed, incredibly tough door panel free of voids. The FRP has a 65% glass content and completely encapsulates the core to a thickness of 1/8" at the door faces, providing excellent impact resistance, and 9/16" at the stile edges, for secure screw hold.

After cutting the door panel to length, full-width top and bottom rails (also manufactured using the pultrusion process) are bonded to the panel structure to create a completely sealed assembly. The resulting door is light in weight but absolutely heavy-duty, having a monolithic structure that’s immune to moisture and corrosive gases or liquids, with the rigidity necessary for industrial-size openings.

Pultrusion Creates a more durable all-FrP door

Top rail is 6" deep with 1/4" wall thickness to provide ample reinforcement for closer attachments.

Standard mortise bottom rail allows for field trim-ming of door. Optional flush bottom rail facilitates cleaning and sterilization.

Tested and Proven ToughIndependent laboratory test results confirm the exceptional performance of Universal Pultrusions FRP doors. Tested to the ASTM E330 Structural Overload Wind Load Test, they reached a static pressure of 270 psf. They passed the ASTM 1886 Hurricane Testing Large Missile Impact Test and Cyclical Pressure Test at a design pressure of 100 psf. They also passed the AAMA 1304 Forced Entry Test, and exhibited very low values for air infiltration, and no water penetration, per ASTM E283 and E331. Insulating properties were confirmed at an R-value of 7.42 per ASTM C1363 Thermal Performance Testing. There’s no doubt about it, these are high-performance doors.

Tough, Long-Lasting Finishes For Easy MaintenanceOur products are finished with a high-gloss, two-part aliphatic polyurethane coating specifically formulated for industrial environments. This FDA- and USDA-compliant coating provides excellent chemical, stain and abrasion resistance. It also has excellent gloss and color retention, and remains flexible to resist cracking. In addition, it’s easy to clean and sterilize, and cosmetic touch-ups in the field are simple. Ten standard colors, custom colors, or primer-only finishes are available.
