Mobile devices have far over-taken the global personal computer estate, with over 5 billion devices concurrently

connected and growing. One can think of a time when your PC is in your pocket, and the power of the personal computer is no longer the machine under your desk on in your laptop bag but in your pocket.With mobile finding inroads everywhere, the availability of internet have become possible for the majority of the Indian con-sumers. Mobile devices undoubtedly have become an integral part of our lives, as the number of mobile Internet users in India is expected to reach 213 million by June 2015 (IAMAI-IMRB). There are several first time users of the internet in India who access the internet only through mobile. It is expected that by 2018, 500 million Indians are likely to be on the Internet and a large portion of them mobile-only.The use of mobile for internet has found its inroads across the Indian spectrum. It is no surprise that the penetration is highest in major metro areas with easy access of broadband network and other

options. The potential for the market is available outside the larger cities and it is the smaller towns that will drive the market growth. By 2015, the consumers who use internet through mobile will be majorly coming from smaller towns and rural areas. The mobile internet users is likely to be nearly 40 percent from tier 4 towns and rural areas; 22 percent coming from tier 1, 2, and 3 cities; and about 38 percent coming from metro areas. Mobile will be the most cost-effective way to bring many people online, especially in the less densely populated areas. Penetration of mobile Internet usage, via feature phones and smartphones, is already more wide-spread than PC and laptop penetration. In tier 4 areas, for example, the penetration of mobile Internet usage is 15 percent, not so different from the 20 percent mobile-usage penetration in metro areas. More educa-tion, more relevant content, and cheaper data connections will help bring these consumers online.MDM is the term used for mobile device management to protect the data within social environments and most importantly within enterprises. This new found flex-ibility and business competitive advan-tage, brings with it the new challenges of securing those mobile devices of which many individuals go about their day using. Users have more than one device and a mix of various brands and device types. The mobile devices makes the data and resources vulnerable to attacks. Driven by strong adoption of cheaper smartphone penetration, affordable data plans and the need to stay connected, this number is expected to increase by 40 million in the next six months. So the need for Mobile security solutions is the need of the hour. It is of paramount importance that we find and utilise a versatile solution to secure our devices. A good solution would be one that embraces mobile device diversity. Se-curing and managing these devices can be addressed in various ways through several platforms.At present the most popular mobile devices being used and in need of mobile security and management solu-tions are Apple iOS, Windows phone 7, RIM Blackberry, WebOS, Nokia Symbian and Android. The consumer has to make an apt choice with a reliable product solution available in the market for protection. The retailers have a key role to play in providing services in the area. The retailers need to create an awareness on the need for securing the device when the customer decides to buy a mobile phone. The reseller needs to explain the customer on all the security checks a customer needs to follow while using internet through mobile. The mobile reseller can also help the consumer in choosing a reliable security solution for the mobile phone. They can be offered as bundled solution along with the mobile phone.The offering of such personalized services will go a long way for the mobile retail-ers in achieving a personal connect with the end-consumer and will also help in combating the competition from online mobile retail.
