Dear Parents and Caregivers Merry Christmas and Farewell 2014 has been a very full year and a landmark one in several ways. So many of our students have been recognized in one way or another at special sectional assemblies or Presentation Night. Well done to you all. Krystal Scanlon, Josh Wiebrecht, Braiden Walton, Brett Dodd and Chad Westlake have completed 12 years of schooling at Mannum, which is quite a record. The Year 12 formal on the PS Marion was just wonderful. I believe I am going to present 7 children with 100% attendance records for the entire school year of 2014 which is a record. I am so thrilled that my constant rerminders about being at school for learning has shown such growth over the last five years. There have been many opportunities for students to involve themselves in the wider life of school. There has been Sports Day, Swimming Carnival, Motivational Speakers organised by Joy Marks, CMASSA, Pedal Prix, School leadership and House Captaincy, the Governor’s Reception, The Peace Run, Book Week, Health of the River, Year 9 Careers Camp, Gala Day, Footsteps Dance program, near completion of the works on Baseby Cottage and the start of our ILC Baseby Hub. There has been Eastern Zone netball, football, surfing and cross country and even in the last week of term a Rugby workshop. Our students showed compassion when we were invited to a Memorial Service for the Australians who lost their lives when the Malaysian Airlines plane was shot down. They participated respectfully during R U OK Week, Reconciliation Week and our Remembrance Day Service at school. We have had nothing but positive feedback from organisers of these events about how well our students join in and behave. This year has been a curriculum development year bringing the last stages of the R-10 rollout of the Australian Curriculum and working together as a staff on lesson design, assessment practices and personalising the learning with engaging and differentiated teaching strategies. The staff have been very busy. They have also undertaken a load of professional development on their own time. As I sign off the DECD required form I am seeing many more hours than the mandatory 37.5hrs. Many students have been working on “pathways” courses adding variety to their Year 10, 11 and 12 studies. The PLP has been completed by most Year 10’s and I was fortunate to attend three presentations: very impressive. Since 2009 we have made steady improvement in our NAPLAN mean scores in most Literacy areas and also in Numeracy. We have planned for and begun Intervention groups to help students with specific skill development. We have introduced the “Quicksmart” program to help build basic numer- acy skills This is the time of the year when we farewell some staff and welcome others, Ms Georgina Sweet is taking another year’s leave in 2015. We wish Mr Greg Kurtzer, Ms Caitlyn Waechter, Ms Kate De Ravin and Ms Rhianna James the very best for the future and thank them for their efforts at MCC in 2014 and we welcome Ms Cherie Nillissen, Ms Lauren Dowling and Mr Jacob Strauss to MCC and we welcome back Ms Michelle Grieger and Ms Arlea Brodie in 2015. We are awaiting one further position to be confirmed but the 2015 year will begin with a full staff complement and classes have been organ- ised. I wish everyone a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year. I look forward to hearing good news about the school in 2015 and I thank you all for the support you have given to me and to the staff as we have worked together to build a better school and make Mannum Community College ‘School of Choice’. It has been a privilege being the princi- pal between 2010 and 2014 and the five years have passed all too quickly. I extend a big welcome to the incoming Principal Ms Sue Record and wish her all the best. She has come to a good school and I’m sure she will be deter- mined to work with you all to make it even better! Dear Parents and Caregivers

Merry Christmas and Farewell

2014 has been a very full year and a landmark one in several ways.
