Initial Ideas & Concepts
Music Video
Music: Run Boy Run by WoodkidReleased May 21, 2012. Genre: Baroque pop, Neofolk and experimental
Narrative:
A society where no one can be them selves and so wear fake personalities to meet societies unreachable targets for many people such as a perfect body type or behaviour. In this story, a boy removes his fake identity in order to be different from everyone else; however, this is against societies laws so other people have to pursue and change the boy to his fake life.
Visual Concept and themes
Visual concept will be dark and gloomy
Themes:
societies many unreachable standards
Fight for the minority
Promotional Shots
Promotional shots will include close ups to reflect the words with the movement of the artists lips it will also be used to focus on parts of instruments being played or the artists facial expressions, mid and long shots to show the artist singing into a microphone or playing an instrument.
Camera Shots, movement and Angles
I would start the music video with an establishing shot of a school to set the location.
Close ups will help to create emphasis on emotions through (exaggerated)facial expressions on either the artist or the character in the narrative as seen in a baroque music videos . Close ups will also be used to reflect the words with the movement of the artists lips
Mid shots and long shots will be used often during promotional shots to show the artists musical talent or during a two shot, this will help the audience understand the relationship between two characters in my music video. Which can also be emphasized using a focus pull especially if we want to focus on one person
High and low angles will be used to emphasize the difference in power between the majority and the minority.
Pans and tilts will be used to introduce the audience to the character and or the students. Tracking and handheld camera movements will be used the to follow the character through his escape from society.
Mise-en-scene
Low key lighting will be used to connote how depressed the character feels because of the attitude shown to him by the other characters. This will be emphasized through dark costumes (mostly black) worn by the other characters who will also be positioned together to mimic a brigade marching army of soldiers.
White masks will be used to represent the fake personalities portrayed by the other characters.
To get the feeling of being imprisoned and to make my target audience of teenagers or older relate to the character, it will be set in a school.
Editing
Parallel editing will be used to relate the artist singing to the character in the narrative. Jump cuts will be used to show a jump in time as the character runs from his pursuers.
Fades and dissolves will be used to transition cuts.
