MICROTUNNELING IPC provides expert microtunneling solutions, using machines manufactured by world-leader

Herrenknecht, as well as Bothar Built FSD Microtunnelling machines, to complete trenchless

installation of pipelines beneath highways, railroads, runways, harbors, rivers, and environmentally

sensitive areas. The slurry supported excavation concept makes it possible to use these machines in all

kinds of ground conditions, from silt and clay to gravel and rock.

AUGER BORING Auger Boring Machines are used to bore horizontally through soil or rock with a cutting head and

auger. The majority of machines are used to install pipe casings under railways, highways, runways,

creeks or any area of ground that cannot be open cut or disturbed. Our expertise in auger boring

techniques ensures delivery to clients of a safe and economical alternative to other forms of tunnelling,

without compromising on efficiency or quality.

PIPE JACKING Where particularly tough ground conditions require either machine or manual excavation, we offer

pipe jacking. This trenchless method for installation of steel pipes and concrete casings is often used

for shallow installations under roads, railway tracks and wherever other trenchless methods could

cause surface settling or heaving. Our Bothar Built steerable tunnel boring machines and pipe jacking

equipment provide a simple solution to complex construction projects.

SHAFT CONSTRUCTION Our team has successfully constructed many shafts of various diameter and depth, specializing in

jacked caisson and underpinning techniques, and also using soldier piles, secant piles, and sheet piles.

DIRECT PIPE INSTALLATION Combining two proven techniques, microtunneling and HDD technology, Direct Pipe is a fast and

efficient one-pass tunneling approach to pipeline installation. This method combines a pipe thruster

and tunneling machine that allows us to simultaneously excavate the borehole and install the pipe in

one step for your project. Direct Pipe provides significant benefits including a small footprint

geographically and environmentally, as well as accurate guidance of the pipeline installation through

curves as well as upward and downward slopes.

KeyPROJECTS

TransCanada Humber River Mainline Extension

This 42” diameter pipeline installation which presented a challenging 60m elevation change

paired with a 10-degree entry angle, was completed in one 800m long pipe string. During

tunneling the team drilled up to 218m in 24 hours, which was recognized as a Performance

World Record for 2017.

Kpone Seawater Intake and Out-Take Tunnel

Requiring 2.65km of 2000mm microtunneling activity, with a seawater intake and out-take, and

up to 1200mm drive lengths including radial (curved) drives, this project also involved the first

tunneling machine marine recovery job undertaken in West Africa.

Spencer Street

Installation of a 611m, 1500mm diameter GRP sewer main in one single drive, launching from

the very centre of Melbourne, required an extremely compact site setup adjacent to a main

thoroughfare, in order to minimise disturbance to the public.

Queensland LNG Project

Construction of road, rail and river crossings for three Queensland LNG Main export lines from

Chinchilla to Gladstone, Australia. The various trenchless construction methods included Auger

Bores of various sizes, Earth Pressure Balance Bothar Built TBMs and various launching and

receiving pit shafts for a 60 ” diameter concrete jacking and 48 ” steel enveloper pipe for the

high pressure mainline gas export lines through variable ground conditions.

Al Solwwah Island Crossing

This under sea and under road crossing required microtunneling 250m drives of 2400mm and

excavation of 21m deep launching and exit pits, using a sheet pile method, to provide the

minimum cover to the sea bed.
