INSEAD Potential Programme Faculty
Annet Aris is adjunct professor of strategy at INSEAD since 2003 where she developed and
teaches the MBA-course “Managing Media Companies”. She is also a guest professor at amongst
others the Rotterdam School of Management.
Annet is also active as a board member of a variety of companies amongst others The Sanoma
Group in Helsinki (media), Tomorrow Focus AG in Munich (internet), ASR Nederland N.V. in
Utrecht (insurance), V-Ventures/ANP in Amsterdam (news agency) Jungheinrich Ag, Hamburg
(material handling equipment).
She was a board member of the OPTA, the Dutch regulatory authorities for telecom, cable and
postal services from 2008-2011. In addition she chairs the International Advisory Board of the
University of Maastricht Faculty of Business and Economics and is member of the Board of the
Foundation “Sound & Vision” and of the Volkskrant foundation in The Netherlands.
She is a Dutch native and received a MSc. from the University of Wageningen in 1984. After
acceptance in McKinsey’s European INSEAD Fellow program, she completed her MBA with
distinction in 1986.
She worked for McKinsey from 1985 until 2003, at first in the Netherlands and in the UK and, since
1990, in Germany. She was elected partner in 1994 and co-led McKinsey’s German Media
Practice from 1999-2003 working on a wide array of topics.
Annet is the author of a large number of articles and speeches on the media industry and, together
with Jacques Bughin, she wrote the book Managing Media Companies, Harnessing Creative Value
(Wiley’s 2009, second edition).

Graduate Engineer of Ecole Centrale Paris and Doctor ès Science from Paris University, James
Teboul started his career as a group leader responsible for new product development at
Schlumberger. After obtaining his MBA at Sherbrooke University in Canada, he became a professor
at INSEAD. His main areas of research are quality management and management of services and
innovation.
Professor Teboul has been the director of the International Executive Programme at INSEAD for
many years. He has taught in many executive programmes in several countries and has been a
consultant to industrial and service organizations.
Professor Teboul is a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Service
Management. His book La Dynamique Qualité (Editions d'Organisation) is published in English
under the title Managing Quality Dynamics (Prentice Hall).
His most recent publications are a book in French entitled Le Temps des Services (The Age of
Services) at Editions d’Organisation, Service is Front Stage, published in May 2006 by Palgrave
McMillan, Le management des Services published in Mach 2007 by Eyrolles, and Serviços em cena
published in July 2008 by Elsevier Brazil.

Markus Christen is Professor of Marketing at INSEAD. His research interest focuses on the
development of profitable marketing strategies. One area of inquiry concerns substantive and
methodological questions about the cost and profit implications of market entry strategies
(innovation vs. imitation). A second research stream examines managers' acquisition of information
for strategic decisions and the extent to which managers' ability to accurately forecast sales is
related to the ultimate performance of new products and product lines. His work has appeared in
Marketing Science, the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Marketing, Management
Science, the Harvard Business Review, and the Financial Times, . He is a member of the American
Marketing Association and the Institute of Management Science.
Professor Christen teaches courses on marketing strategy and pricing strategies in the MBA
programme and marketing strategy in various executive seminars in Europe and Asia. He is the co-
director of the service management programme Delivering Outstanding Services and has been
involved with companies from various industries, such as Johnson & Johnson, Novarits, Cisco, J.
Walter Thompson and S.C. Johnson. He has also written several case studies.
Professor Christen holds a PhD in Marketing from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke
University, an MBA from the University of Oregon in Eugene, and a master degree in mechanical
and industrial engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Prior to joining
INSEAD, he worked in industry for several years, as a production engineer, consultant and
marketing manager.

Jose Luis Álvarez is Senior Affiliate Professor of Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD. He teaches
in the MBA Program (where he received three times the Best Teacher Award) and executive
education programmes, such as AVIRA, the Advanced Management Programme, the Transition to
General Management Programme and numerous incompanies. He serves as academic director of
the Leading for Results Program. Professor Álvarez was a Visiting Professor at the Harvard
Business School and at Cambridge University.
Professor Álvarez holds degrees in Law and Philosophy from the University of Barcelona, an MBA
from IESE Business School, and a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Harvard
University. His research has been published in the MIT-Sloan Management Review , European
Management Journal, Organization Studies, Organizations, Corporate Governancel, and he has
published six books. His book Sharing Executive Power: Roles and Relationships at the Top
published by Cambridge University Press was selected as one of the top three books in 2007 by
the Academy of Management.
He is frequently sought out by the media and has appeared, among other outlets, in the Financial
Times, BBC World News, Al Jazeera, etc. His current work centers on the topic of political
leadership, on which he published a chapter in the Handbook of Teaching Leadership (Sage), and
a book on Spanish Prime Ministers. He is also undertaking research on the Changing C-suite to be
published in 2016 by Oxford University Press. His corporate educational activities and consulting
experience has focused mostly on issues of corporate governance, organisational design and
change.

Massimo Massa is the Rothschild Chaired Professor of Banking, Professor of Finance at INSEAD,
where he teaches international finance, corporate finance, information financial economics and
behavioral finance in M.B.A., Ph.D. and Executive programs. He graduated summa cum laude
from the Department of Economics at the LUISS University of Rome, Italy. He has obtained an
M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management and a Ph.D. in Financial Economics from Yale
University.
His research interests include theory of information in financial markets, corporate finance,
behavioral finance, and mutual funds. His articles have been published in academic journals such
as Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of
Business, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Markets. His
research has been quoted and discussed in major magazines and newspapers (The Economist,
Business Week, The New York Times).
He has previously worked in the Bank of Italy in the Banking Division (1989-1992) and in the
Research Department (Monetary and Financial Markets Division) (1993-1997).
