ANNET ARIS Professor of Strategy

Annet Aris is adjunct professor of strategy at INSEAD since 2003 where she developed and teaches the MBA-course “Media and Internet, the new rules of the game in the digital world””.

She was nominated in 2010 and 2011 for the best teacher award by the MBA students.

She is also a board member of a number of publicly listed companies such as the tour operator and airline Thomas Cook PLC, the TV broadcaster ProSiebenSat1 SE, the microchip machine manufacturer ASML N.V., the intralogistics and forklift truck manufacturer Jungheinrich AG and the insurance company A.S.R. N.V. She was a non-executive board member of Kabel Deutschland from 2011 until 2015.

Annet is a Dutch native and received a MSc. from the University of Wageningen in 1984. After acceptance in McKinsey’s European INSEAD Fellow program, she completed her MBA with distinction in Fontainebleau in 1986.

She worked for McKinsey from 1985 until 2003, at first in the Netherlands and in the UK and, since 1990, in Germany. She was elected partner in 1994 and co-led McKinsey’s German Media Practice from 1999-2003 working on a wide array of topics.

Annet is a weekly columnist on digital transformation and corporate governance in the Financieel Dagblad and is frequently asked as key note speaker on international media- and telecom conference. She was named one of the 50 most inspirational women in the European technology sector for 2016 by Inspiring Fifty.

She is the author of a large number of articles and case studies on the media industry.

Together with Jacques Bughin, she wrote the book Managing Media Companies, Harnessing Creative Value (Wiley’s 2009, second edition, also available in Russian and Chinese).

GRAHAM WARD Professor of Leadership Leadership Development Practice Director, INSEAD Global Leadership Centre

Graham Ward is Adjunct Professor of Leadership at INSEAD Business School in France. His expertise is in leadership, high performance teams, group dynamics, team dysfunction and change. His doctoral dissertation, published in 2013 is a theory of small group executive coaching using a psychodynamic approach. Teaching modules include the psychology of leadership, the application of fair process in teams, sustainable relationship building and developing high performance teams and culture in organizational life. He teaches regularly at INSEAD on a number of executive programs and is the INSEAD Global Leadership Centre Coaching Practice Director for the Transition to General Management (TGM) and LFR (Leading for Results). Graham has also worked in the same role on many company specific programs including KPMG, Microsoft, Pfizer, Daimler Chrysler, TNK/BP, HSBC, Ernst and Young and SAP. Moreover he has also worked as visiting faculty on the Advance Management Program at Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden, Moscow Higher School of Economics and ESMT in Berlin Outside of INSEAD, he specializes in coaching C-suite executives and consulting around team dysfunctions Graham spent 22 years in finance, 16 of which working for Goldman Sachs, where for seven years he co-led the European Equity business. In 2000, Graham spearheaded an initiative to introduce a Global Leadership Development office that he led for three years. At GS he was head of diversity for the Division and led the Women’s Committee from inception, also instigating other minority networks. Graham was speaker at the 2007 EMCC annual conference on the subject of Group Leadership Coaching and in 2001 on the subject of Mentoring for Change. In 2013 he spoke at The School of Management Science, India on Spiritual Leadership. He is an affiliate member of the APA (American Psychological Association), and a member of the ISPSO (International Society for the Psychoanalytic Study of Organizations). Graham received his Ph.D. from the Vrije University in Amsterdam in 2014. He holds an M.Sc. and Diploma from HEC/INSEAD (2002) in Clinical Organizational Psychology. In 1994 he received a Diploma of Investment Management from London Business School. He is licensed to use the MBTI, The Leadership Circle, GELI, LAQ, Personality Audit and Cultural Audit. Graham was contributing author to the books Coach and Couch, the Psychology of Making Better Leaders published in 2007 and the Coaching Kaleidoscope published in 2010. He authored the academic paper Towards Executive Change (2008) and The Use of Transitional Space (2009). He is currently a board member of Hampstead Capital Global Hedge Fund, listed on the Irish Stock Exchange and Senrigan Capital based in Hong Kong Privately he has worked with senior executives at McKinsey, Siemens, Bristol Myers Squibb, Axa, Aviva, HSBC, Tesco, AstraZeneca, Deutsche Bank, E.On, UBS, Shell and BP among others. McKinsey &Co retains him in their European leadership coaching pool. Graham, 50, lives on the Stockholm Archipelago with his wife and four children He travels extensively, recently visiting North Korea and Syria amongst other places.

MARKUS CHRISTEN Professor of Marketing Chair, Marketing Area

Markus Christen is Associate Professor of Marketing at INSEAD. His research interest focuses on the development of profitable marketing strategies. One area of inquiry concerns substantive and methodological questions about the cost and profit implications of market entry strategies (innovation vs. imitation). A second research stream examines managers' acquisition of information for strategic decisions and the extent to which managers' ability to accurately forecast sales is related to the ultimate performance of new products and product lines. His work has appeared in Marketing Science, the Journal of Marketing Research, theJournal of Marketing, Management Science, the Harvard Business Review, and the Financial Times, . He is a member of the American Marketing Association and the Institute of Management Science.

Professor Christen teaches courses on marketing strategy and pricing strategies in the MBA programme and marketing strategy in various executive seminars in Europe and Asia. He is the co-director of the service management programme Delivering Outstanding Services and has been involved with companies from various industries, such as Johnson & Johnson, Novarits, Cisco, J. Walter Thompson and S.C. Johnson. He has also written several case studies.

Professor Christen holds a PhD in Marketing from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, an MBA from the University of Oregon in Eugene, and a master degree in mechanical and industrial engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Prior to joining INSEAD, he worked in industry for several years, as a production engineer, consultant and marketing manager.

JOERG NIESSING Professor of Marketing

Joerg Niessing is an Affiliate Professor of Marketing at INSEAD and is passionate about bridging the academic and the business world on topics related to marketing, branding and digitization. He holds a PhD in Marketing from the University of Muenster. His credentials do not only come from his academic career, but also from over 13 years in consulting. Here he focused on building leading brands and delivering profitable growth through the development of outstanding customer experiences, distinctive customer insights and data analytics. His diverse background includes marketing and branding strategy, marketing analytics, digital & social media marketing, and customer relationship management across a broad range of industries in different countries.

At INSEAD, Joerg focuses on brand management, marketing research & analytics, (“big”) data analytics, and digital marketing and develops and teaches courses in these areas. He is also the Executive Director of INSEAD elab, the research and analytics centre at INSEAD that focuses on the intersection of data analytics, customer insights and digitization. Joerg gives talks and consults for a number of organizations in his area of expertise. He is co-directingLeading Digital Marketing Strategy.

Before joining INSEAD Joerg worked as an Associate Partner at Prophet; a strategic brand and marketing consultancy. At Prophet he has worked with companies to uncover and activate actionable customer insights through the application of customized research & analytics methods. He developed in-depth experience in market evaluation, segmentation, brand positioning, value proposition, brand equity & valuation, brand portfolio management, social media strategy & analytics, and marketing effectiveness for clients such as Mondelez, eBay, United Healthcare, PepsiCo, T-Mobile, United Airlines, Samsung, Electrolux, Cisco Systems, and Swarovski.

Before joining Prophet, Joerg was a managing director at the Marketing Center Muenster. During this time he led several marketing projects in strategy development, brand management, and customer relationship management for a variety of German DAX companies including BMW, Deutsche Post, Volkswagen, Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn.

MASSIMO MASSA The Rothschild Chaired Professor of Banking Co-Director of the Hoffmann Research Fund

Massimo Massa is the Rothschild Chaired Professor of Banking and Professor of Finance at INSEAD, where he teaches international finance, corporate finance, asset management, behavioural finance and governance in MBA, EMBA, PhD and Executive programs. He has an MBA from the Yale School of Management and an MA and a PhD in Financial Economics from Yale University. He is CPA and Auditor. He has previously worked in the Bank of Italy.

His research interests include asset management, corporate finance, behavioural finance and financial intermediation. He has published articles on M&A, alliances, capital structure, dividend policy, share repurchases, IPOs, mutual funds, hedge funds, short-selling, behavioural biases, banking, asset management, international finance, the role of media and social networks in financial markets, ownership structure, corporate governance, family firms. His articles have been published in top academic journals and his research has been quoted in major magazines, newspapers, professional journals and forums. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Empirical Finance and the Review of Finance.

Dr Massa has been consultant with several companies on strategic issues related to governance and corporate financial and growth strategies. He co-directs the Hoffman Fund for research in family firms and is the director of the Advanced Asset Management programme, the Interalpha Banking program and the Master in Finance. He co-directs Value Creation for Owners and Directors and has managed several programs for corporations and banks, including ABN AMRO, Maybank, Société Générale, Fineco, Technip, Mubadala, Bertelsmann.

Dr Massa's current research focuses on the link between corporate financial strategies, governance and type of ownership and how this affects value creation and growth in corporations as well as the strategies of asset managers and banks and their synergies.
