Mother’s Day Saturday, May 7, 2016

10:0 AM – 5:00 PM

We look forward to seeing you in the shop on Saturday, May 7, 2016 as we celebrate this special day. The shop will be giving away a pair of elegant scissors. Come in and put your name in the drawing with purchase– one entry per customer.

Stitching Tip: Velvet finishing fabrics are the new thing in the needlework world. These new fabrics are available from Dames of the Needle and the idea is being used by designers through the industry. Thank you Lori Markovic from La-D-Da for your idea. If you wish to stitch a small idea on velvet that will require waste canvas. Waste canvas is a special canvas that provides an evenweave grid for placing stitches on fabric. After the design is worked over the canvas, the canvas threads are removed, leaving the design on the fabric. The canvas is available in several mesh sizes. Cover edges of canvas with masking tape. Cut a piece of lightweight, non-fusible interfacing the same size as canvas to provide a firm stitching base. Mark center of waste canvas with a pencil never a pen. Pin canvas to item being stitched. Baste canvas to item. Using a sharp needle, work design, stitching from large holes to large holes. When stitchin is complete, trim canvas within ¾” of design. Dampen canvas until it becomes limp. Pull out canvas threads one at a time using tweezers. Trim interfacing close to design. Yes, 3 Stitches sells all the supplies for this project.
