Dear SAOC Students and Community,

I would like to thank all of The Chronicle members on their dedication for creating a

variety of articles for issue #1 of our second volume. Our goal is to keep our school and community informed. Newspaper writing is very fun, and I thank each and every

Back to school fun By: Refia Caliskan

Did you hear about the SAOC back-to-school carnival? If not, you missed out! The SAOC carnival took place August 26-28, 2016. The carnival had many rides including Moby Dick, Freak Out, Zero Gravity, and more. The rides were very fun and exciting. There were also rides for toddlers, prize winning games, and freaky rides.

The carnival was held in both SAOC’s parking lots, and was in operation until 11:00PM. The carnival was open to the public as well. Guests also had a choice for purchasing a variety of foods and drinks. Food trucks sold pizza, lem-onade, and sandwiches. There was also a bake sale that sold desserts, drinks,

and pastries. The carnival was a fun place for students to hang out with their friends, family, and teachers. Guests who played the games won prizes such as large stuffed animals, game consoles, and toys.

Overall, the SAOC carnival was a successful event that brought fun and excitement to students’ lives at the beginning of the school year Although some rides were terri-fyingly fun, others were peaceful. After all, is there a better way to start off a school year than at-tending an exhilarat-ing carnival?

Sharpen up those skates! A new ice arena has found its home in Mount Prospect. Nicholas & Associates, a construction firm, has transformed an empty warehouse in the Ken-sington Business Center to a 71,000 square foot arena with two full NHL ice rinks.

The ice arena includes some impressive features like spectator seating up to 450 fans at each rink, 10 team locker rooms, and parking for over 300 guests. The ice arena also of-fers a full service pro shop, Jerry’s Hockey, for your ice skating needs and an on-site restau-rant, Bricks Wood Fired Pizza Café, that will open soon.

Even though the grand opening was about a month ago, the Mount Prospect Ice Are-na is already busy with activity. Hours of operation is from 6 AM to 12 AM every day. Please check their website for rink reservations, scheduling ice time, prices, and event like birthday parties.

So, take out your skates and enjoy the ice, and if you don’t skate, you can still enjoy a delicious wood fired pizza while watching the ice rink from the second floor.

Have you ever listened to music about the

voices in your head? Our mind is a house filled with

secrets, stories, and levels. In the rooms of that house live our voices. Being a good person doesn’t

mean you don’t have evil voices, it means that you learned how to navigate them. There are many voices

in the rooms of that house. For example, the first room Lilly says she has is her ego. In the video, she

says directly, “you’re flexing your arms, I’m flexing my

life, cause’ homie my hustle got games.” But also you can’t forget the room downstairs, the room of

insecurities and loneliness. In that room you’re scared. You don’t know what to do. You’re lonely. She

says directly “I’m addicted to success, scared to rest.”

One day I was watching Lilly’s vlog and in the

vlog she said “go check out my new music video!” I wanted to see what’s it was about. So I went to the

video. I was watching the video and everything was good until after four minutes. After four minutes it

was inappropriate. So I fast forwarded to nine minutes. One thing I strongly disliked about the song

was that part of it had inappropriate words. I really

don’t see the point why she would add inappropriate things. Maybe she could of used other voices instead

of the others.

But I also liked how she used a house to describe our mind because it fits together. I really

liked the beat of the music and how it changes in different rooms. Lastly, I like the lyrics because

they’re deep and relatable.

Glitter Force

By: Fatima Choudhry

Glitter force is an amazing show from Netflix. It

comes from the Japanese show “Smile Pre Cure”. It includes six main characters: five high school girls and

a pixie. The girls’ names are Emily, Kelsey, Lily, April, and Chloe. The pixie’s name is Candy.

They save the world from the evil emperor Nogo and his minions Brute, a troll, Bruha a witch, Ulric

a wolf, and a joker named Rascal. The five girls use magical glitter packs to transform. Emily transforms

into Glitter Lucky, Kelsey transforms into Glitter Sunny,

Lily becomes Glitter Peace, April transform into Glitter Spring, and finally Chloe becomes Glitter Breeze.

Although the five girls have many modes called tiara, princess, and ultra mode, Candy becomes a

queen and transforms into a human.

Even though I personally love Glitter Force, I

believe boys and some sporty girls would dislike this show. Even so it’s your choice!

BOOK REVIEW: THE GIVER

The Giver is the first of a four book series. The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is about a boy, Jonas, who lives in a world of sameness. Sameness as in everyone is the same; there are no colors, snow, or rain, just sameness.

But one day Jonas was playing catch with his friend using an apple. But what was strange about the apple was that the apple looked like it had changed for a flicker of a second. Jona sees these flickers again and just ignores them. Until the Ceremony of Twelve happens…

Do you like books that are mysterious and adventurous? Well then The Giver is the book for you!I give this book five stars because it's a great page turner and is very adventurous.

The worst part is that when you finish the book, it ends with a cliffhanger that wants you to read more. I would recommend this book to sixth grade and up. Do not worry if you don't like to read, The Giver also has it's very

own movie starring Taylor Swift!

opinion: should students have gym everyday?

By: Hatice Ozey

Yes, I think students need a good exercise in the morning because they start the day active. They even get to play games while exercising! That’s the fun part! It’s just like recess!

You also get a chance to have a healthy diet. When you exercise every day you would be at a healthy weight for your body! It’s also healthy because if you sit in your school chairs the whole day, it wouldn’t be healthy. When exercise you are healthy and happy!

Students can be extremely active at gym not al-ways in other classes. If they have gym class every day, students would be paying more attention in their other classes. This can also result in students earning better grades. And, if students earn better grades, they have a higher chance of earning a spot on the honor roll.

All in all, there are many reasons why I believe students at every school should have gym class everyday.

BOOK REVIEW: THE CURSED CHILD

Are you a Harry Potter Fan? Well, to your luck there is now the 8th book of Harry Potter. It is called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. It was published on July 31,

2016, and is written in a play-style. This book also has an A.R. test worth six points.

This book is mostly about Harry Potter’s child, Albus, with Scorpius going back

in time with the time-turner. Scorpius is Malfoy’s son (they say). They try to bring Cedric Diggory back to life, instead everything goes wrong. For instance, at one point, Ron and

Hermione are not married, everything is totally different every time they travel.

I personally loved this book, I was happy to hear that the eighth book of Harry

Potter is out. I will most likely end up rereading the whole series over again. In this

book I don't think I had any dislikes. I also liked that all three authors ( J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, John Tiffany) worked together to pack this story. I rate this book 5/5 ,100%, and I hope the

ninth book will come out.

Well, now you have some background information about the eighth book. If you haven’t read the

Harry Potter Series, go to your local library or bookstore, and don’t forget the eighth book!

Milwaukee art museum By: Saniye Uslu

If you are an art lover, the Milwaukee Art Museum is the best place for you! Filled with every variety of art, and art from every time period you could imagine, the Milwaukee Art Museum has it all. Located at 700 N Art Museum Dr, Milwaukee, WI 53202, the price for 12 and under is free! Adults 17$ and Students 15$ with ID. Beginning in 1872, The Milwaukee Art Museum now has over 35,000 works of art.

MY favorite art is pop art, and this museum has a gallery full of pop art and even one from Roy Lichtenstein called “Crying Girl”. The gal-leries are historic though some are very modern ranging from the first cameras, to the world's most modern chairs, Milwaukee Art Museum has it all! I give this art museum 4 stars because they have very interest-ing art pieces, but they might be boring for younger visitors. There are also very delicate pieces of art in these galleries, so I suggest not to bring kids under the age of ten here.

Olive garden: A restaurant review

Recently, I went to Olive Garden, and it was astonishing. I dined with my whole magnificent family. My dad ordered his favorite kind of soup. I ordered the food I desired. My mom and my brother wanted the same

entrée I ordered for dinner.

I think this was a really good restaurant for a Saturday night. My dad ordered his favorite type of soup:

tomato soup with ravioli. I ordered noodles with salmon. My brother and my mom liked it too, and they ordered the same. I can say that the look of the food was really nice. I thought it looked as appetizing as the food actors

eat in movies!

As much as it looked appetizing, it also tasted really good.

Salmon and noodles are a good combination. My dad and my mom re-

ally liked it especially my brother because he is a super taster. I got to taste some of my dad’s meal. My dad’s meal was as good as the taste

of salmon, but a bit better.

If I could, I would want to go back to the restaurant and order

something new. If I had to rate this restaurant out of 5 points, I would

rate it 4.5 out of 5. I would give Olive Garden this rating because the

food took a while to cook. If I could I would want to go back to Olive

Garden. I truly recommend this restaurant to everyone that likes to

taste new food.

Istanbul bazaar: a store review

By: Refia Caliskan

The Istanbul Bazaar is a small Turkish mart with all of the essentials: peynir(cheese), sucuk(sausage), helva, coffee, tea, candy, chocolate, glasses & plates and dry goods. They also have a small area for selling perfume, soap, etc.

They have reasonable prices, and the workers are more than happy to help. I have asked some people's opinions about this place: "By far the best Turkish mart in Chicago I've ever been to!" and "The lahmacun (a Turkish pizza) is great, and I would love to go again!".

Lahmacun is different than traditional pizza be-cause it doesn't have any sauce or cheese. It is on a flat piece of bread, with meat on top.

Some chefs even like to put herbs or seasonings on top of the meat to give it a bit more flavor.

Overall, this place is both a cafe and a store that will bring you into the Turkish tradition.

Movie review: storks

Storks deliver babies...well, they used to. Now they deliver packages

for a global store called cornerstone.com.

The movie, Storks, is about a character named Junior. He is the

company's best selling stork. He is about to be promoted when he

accidentally pushes a button and activates the Baby Factory, which

creates a beautiful and adorable baby girl.

Junior and his friend Tulip, the only human on stork mountain, race

time to deliver the baby before their boss finds out. This is a really good

movie, and I think everyone should watch it.

Everyone should watch it because it is a movie that is funny, kid

friendly and surprising. Some famous people play in this too! They are:

Andy Samberg, Jennifer Aniston, Kelsey Grammar, Katie Crown, Jordan

Peele and many more. Overall, this is a funny and surprising movie.

Movie review: finding dory By: Mucteba Yazici

Have you ever watched a movie that brings you to tears from sadness and humor? I have; it was the

movie Finding Dory. My family and I really enjoyed watching the movie. I think out of all my family members, I was the one that enjoyed the most. Throughout the movie there were negatives and positives.

For me, one of the negatives about the movie was the part when Dory went into her parent’s water tank, but they were not there. I think this was a part I did not like because I thought the movie would end

with Dory finding her parents at the tank where the octopus brought her.

Throughout this movie, there were many parts I really enjoyed, but this

one was the one I liked most. I specifically enjoyed the scene when the two wal-ruses were hogging up the whole rock for themselves. I really liked that because

I thought it was hilarious. For example, when-ever another walrus touches the rock both of

them start screaming at the one that touched

the rock.

Overall, I think it was a really nice movie to watch with your family.

Out of 5 stars, I rate this movie a 5 out of 5. I rate it because the whole

plot of the movie was really captivating.
