INSITE ONLINE PROOFING

Insite provides four ways of doing paperless proofing, Smart Review, Preview, Download Proof and Downloads folder. This document covers each proofing method and grades them on their features.

To access Smart Review and Preview in any Insite job, click on the appropriate buttons in the Summary tab and Pages tab. To access Download Proof use the Download Proof or Download HiRes links in right column of Pages tab. To access Downloads folder, click on the Downloads tab. See images below showing these links. The bottom picture shows how the buttons can be grouped into a menu format if your browser window is too narrow to display the buttons.

Smart Review is the premier tool for online proofing. It is full-featured, going beyond paper proofs. The proof you see is a close as possible to the final product. The same RIP that will be used for making plates is used to generate these proofs. You can see color separations, overprints, trapping, color density, trim size, safety margins, trim boundaries, bleeds, preflight results and versions when available. You can do page by page approvals, collaborate with others online, annotate proofs, and chat. There are various other tools available as well.

• The list of pages on the left side allows you to select any page by clicking on it. You can also see the approval status and preflight status of each page.• The red and green button at top center allow you to reject or approve the page, but only if the job is ready for you to approve. If it is not ready then thesebuttons are grayed out.• The key tools for navigating are in the upper right toolbar. Pan, zoom in and zoom out.• The key quality verifications tools are as follows. We expect that if you approve pages you have verified that all these conditions are set up properly.Call your Technical Service Representative if you have questions.

➡ Trim size is in the Info palette.➡ The trim box is the solid line around the online proof. Check for sufficient bleeds and absence of any non-printing elements in the bleed area.➡ The safety margin box is the dashed line inside the page.➡ Separations palette shows you color separations that will print.➡ Preflight palette shows you warnings in yellow and failures in red. Failures must be resolved. Warnings indicate lesser problems that you shouldresolve or waiver.➡ If you have followed our file naming convention you can check page order. If not pages may appear out of order and correction pages not fall inthe proper order until we have assigned them to the imposition order.➡ Use the version palette or separations palette to check versions, depending on the method LSC Communications has explained to you.

• Various tool shortcuts are available at the top and bottom of the window. Hover the cursor over them to see what they do.

Preview Most of the advanced tools that are in Smart Review are not found in Preview. But Preview has some great strengths that overcome this deficit. Like Smart Review, the images have been created using the same RIP that will be used for making your plates. Preview’s pages are pre-ripped so they display faster. Whereas Smart Review’s strengths are its detailed information, Preview’s strengths are its optimal speed and overview of the entire product. In Preview you can approve the entire project at once or one page at a time.

•The bottom, right Approve Job button lets you approve all pages at once.•The bottom and top corners of each page act as page turner buttons. Hover over them and you’ll see the page curl, indicating it is ready to turn once youclick. The affect of page turning is amazingly life-like.•The upper corners have a button that is initially a blue button with a question mark, indicating that the page is ready to review. Right clicking on this buttongives a popup menu, shown below, with options for this page. Approvals or rejections change this blue icon to green or red, depending on your choice.Launch Smart Review is magical. It takes you to Smart Review and opens to the page you selected. This is a great feature if you need the analysis tools inSmart Review to check on a problem quickly.

•The tabs on left and right of window slide open to show additional tools, Download Hi-Res, Approve page, Reject page, and Launch Smart Review, thesame tools you get when right clicking on the upper corner icons.•The top page navigation tools allows you to go to a page number, select previous or next, and first or last pages.•The bottom thumbnails allow you to find a particular image and go to it quickly.•The more button has a popup menu that allows you to change from single to spreads mode and rotate page view when needed.

Preview requires that Adobe Flash Player is installed on your computer.

Download Proof and its first cousin Download HiRes depend on Acrobat to display downloaded proofs rather than viewing online proofs using the actual RIP. However for those of you who are used to the PDF workflow and have confidence in it, this method should work fine. Download Proof is optimized for fast viewing in several ways. If you wish to experiment with using both methods you will quickly understand the differences. The steps are to first select individual or all pages, as highlighted red boxes show. Then click on the Download method you wish to use. A dialog box like the one shown for Download Proof option will popup. Select the target folder, single or multiple option and click the Download button. If you use the Download HiRes method you won’t get the single or multiple option because it only downloads singles. After viewing proofs, to approve them, you can use any available Approval method including the Approve or Reject buttons, shown a few links above the Download Proof link.

Downloads Folder is not an automated method and proof reliability can vary widely depending on your choice for file format. In order to view these proofs you have to pre-plan with LSC Communications to place the kind of soft proofs you want to view in the WebDownloads folder of your job, in order to make them available for you to download. To use this method, first click on the Downloads tab to view downloadable items. Then put a check next to the files or folders you wish to download. You can view and download the contents of folders by clicking on folder names. Once you have checked all items you want to download, click on the Download button. Choose your target directory in the next window and then click Download button. After viewing proofs, to approve them, you can use any available Approval method including the Approve and Reject buttons, in the Pages tab window.
