PROBLEM: Lack of space – especially in the garage. Ruth and Chuck have not been able to park their car inside the garage for more than ten years!

“Most of the places we would normally store stuff, the attic, the basement, we don’t have those here in Florida,” says Ruth.“Having no place to put everything is a huge problem.”

Transform Tiny Spaces A tiny closet can quickly turn into a huge mess.

But with a little planning, you can convert that

small closet into a treasure, complete with a major

“wow” factor. When organizing little spaces, don’t

let yourself be vertically challenged. Install shelving

all the way to the ceiling, even if it means you

have to keep a step stool nearby.

CREATING THE WOW FACTOR“When you have small closets, functionality and customization are vital,” says Meryl Starr, personal organizer and author. “While it’s important to utilize every available inch of wall space, you still need to create a system that works best for your specific needs.”

So, when Kick Kennedy wanted to transform the small closets in her Manhattan apartment, she turned to Meryl and ClosetMaid for help.

Shoe Storage Made SimpleThere’s something about a great pair of shoes

that makes you want to show them off. In Kick’s

case, her fashionable shoe collection was worthy

of taking center stage and Meryl’s closet design

provided just that. By utilizing open, angled shoe

shelves, Meryl was able to remove the shoe clutter

that normally crowded the closet floor. And by

going vertical with the shelving, Kick’s shoes are

now easier to see and access, making matching

fashion with footwear all the more fun.

Much like Kick’s shoe collection, ClosetMaid

SuiteSymphony™ is available in a variety of

great colors.

step1

When considering where to make investments in your home – whether it’s a new or existing home – don’t close the door on the closet. A functional, organized closet that also serves as a

showcase for your style requires careful thought.

step2THINK BIG PICTURE.Take a look at your actual space. Do you share your closet with another person? Is your closet a walk-in or reach-in?

step3DIY OR DO-IT-FOR-YOU?Next, choose the proper storage system for your closet by taking into account your budget and DIY skills.

step 4DESIGN TIME.Finally, it’s time to create your design.

WHAT ARE YOUR NEEDS, WANTS, AND MUST-HAVES? First, consider your wardrobe and overall storage needs. What types of clothes do you have?

TAKE MEASUREMENTS. The height, width and depth of the closet walls will impact the size and amount of shelving used, the hardware needed, and the options you can add to a basic configuration.

SELECT THE PRODUCT: WIRE OR LAMINATE. Or be creative and use a combination of both to create a sleek look that’s extremely versatile and functional.

1

3

CEILING HEIGHT WILL ALSO IMPACT THE VERTICAL PLACEMENT OF YOUR SHELVING. Typical shelf heights are 70” from the floor for long-hanging space and 84” and 42” from the floor for double or short-hanging space. Obviously, low ceilings will affect whether or not a shelf can be placed at 84”.
