SLIA’s welcoming and gracious hosting has left us humbled and we eagerly await the return opportunity to host them here in Pakistan. Their cricket teams talent, discipline and well-oiled coaching has set a high benchmark and something to aspire towards, a goal which we are keen to achieve. The IAP team led by the Honorary Secretary IAP, Ar. Ramiz Baig comprised of 12 architects aged 28 to 60 from all over Pakistan. The team ultimately lost the series to a much better opposition though it improved with every match and even registered a consolation win in the last match. Ar. Nosheed Ullah Shah was awarded best fielder of the series and Ar. Faizan Naeem won man of the match for the last match. The IAP team more than the scorecards took back the shared camaraderie amongst the players and fun they had together over the course of the games. They most fondly remember the 2 games where they played in a mix team, two batsmen on the crease building a strong partnership one in green and one in blue, it’s a unique sight never before seen anywhere on a cricket field. The team huddles created moments which only reinforced the sense of brotherhood the teams felt for each other and that was indeed the number one goal for us when embarking for this tour. Apart from the conference and the cricket, the entire delegation also visited the historic Galle Fort as well as some of the projects by the great Geoffrey Bawa. The momentum created by this extremely well organized SLIA event should not be lost and we are hoping to lay the ground work for a return series soon! The IAP now looks to all its chapters to make their own team which should play against each other regularly so a stronger team can be made for a return series which is already under planning. The IAP Cricket Team for the tour of Sri Lanka: Ar. Ramiz Baig (Captain), Ar. Najeeb Omar, Ar. Arif Changezi, Ar. Shamim Alam, Ar. Rizwan Sadiq, Ar. Saad Shah, Ar. Faizan Naeem, Ar. Zarrar Hussain, Ar. Muhammad Yusaf Ghouri, Ar. Syed Athar Hussain, Ar. Faizullah Qureshi and Ar. Nosheed Ullah Shah.

6.1 IAP Karachi Chapter Activities

6.1.1 BAE-IAP Faculty Roundtable We shall form an Association of Faculty of Architecture at institutional, chapter and national levels and formulate a Charter for its operation', was the highlight of the resolutions passed by 31 faculty members from all across Pakistan at a Roundtable facilitated by Board of Architectural Education of the Institute of Architects Pakistan (BAE-IAP). For the first time in the history of architectural education in Pakistan, a talented group of young faculty from across Pakistan was able to interact and form connections with renowned architects and amongst themselves. To ensure inclusion of all accredited schools the list was prepared in consultation with the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP). Out of the 23 invited institutions 16 participated. In all with school nominees and those from IAP Chapters, the 3 day successful Roundtable had 31 participants. Moderated by Ar. Khadija Jamal, the group of young faculty showed amazing energy and enthusiasm and quickly set the pace for discourse on issues pertaining to Architectural Education in Pakistan. This signaled the success of the Agenda that BAE had set for the Roundtable even earlier than imagined. By providing this rare platform to the young faculty, BAE met with success in: - The young faculty benefiting from the experienced guest speakers from pertinent fields but diverse subjects. - Engaging the young faculty to voice their concerns of all aspects of architectural education and seeking means of addressing them. - The young faculty realizing that they needed to work together to overcome these problems and BAE would provide full support. In his welcome address, Chairman BAE-IAP Ar. Murad Jamil described very briefly the role of Board of Architectural Education (BAE) and informed the participants about its focused efforts in the light of the Charter. He explained that 3-day event offers an exclusive opportunity to meet some esteemed speakers and develop networking amongst institutions across Pakistan. The President IAP S. M. Jahangir Khan enlightened the audience with the initiatives of BAE; bringing all Heads of Architectural schools to one platform. He shared thus far that 82 teachers have been trained as a result of faculty training workshops. Welcoming the participants to a city by the sea, the IAP Karachi Chapter Chairperson Ar. Komal Parvez thanked the Core Committee for providing the Chapter with an opportunity to host the event. She told the faculty that they were the VIP(s) of the show since they are the ones who will shape the future of Architecture in Pakistan.
