General Principles of Thermal Insulation

Page 2: Insulated rendering systems General Principles of Thermal Insulation

All thermal insulation materials work on a single basic principle: heat moves from warmer to colder areas.

Page 3: Insulated rendering systems General Principles of Thermal Insulation

Therefore, on cold days, heat from inside a building seeks to get outside.

And on warmer days, the heat from outside the building seeks to get inside

The external appearance of a building is truly an important aspect, especially to its residents.

Increasingly, with the rapid depletion of the world’s energy resources, high profile environmental issues such as climate change, are beginning to take precedence over aesthetic preferences

Stringent legislation demands that the thermal performance of any building is strictly governed.

External Wall Insulation was introduced to Britain in the 1960’s, yet it would be fair to say that it has taken time to establish itself.

However, over the last ten years, the Decent Homes Standards and Part ‘L’ of the Building Regulations have significantly increased insulation standards and the demand for more innovative solutions for renovating properties, increasing thermal performance and reducing carbon emissions

.

The system involves the mechanical and/or adhesive fixing of insulation boards to the outside of a building, which is then covered with a mesh reinforcement, a base coat and a final decorative finish.

This layered method encases the property and helps prevent heat from escaping unnecessarily from the property.

INSULATED RENDER SYSTEMS:Are a cost effective alternative to demolition &

rebuildReduce unnecessary heat loss & CO² emissionsReduce condensationProtect and prolong the external fabric of a

buildingOffer high impact resistanceOffer superb weather resistanceLow maintenanceDo not reduce footprint of a propertyHave a 30 year life expectancyHave a positive effect on the environment

Alkali Resistant Fibre Mesh is an ideal reinforcement for render, particularly where the adhesion of the render may be suspect or where cracking is evident.

Tyrolean Render

Tyrolean is a cementations cement based render incorporating silicone technology.

Applied using a hand operated or open-hopper spraying machine, the unique ‘honeycomb’ texture is built up using several strokes from different angles until a finished thickness of 4mm – 6mm is achieved.
