Recommended tool for all products: RPS13/17-6H or RPS13/17-6SH
MUCI SERIES SUBMERSIBLE CONNECTORS Application: For the waterproof, underground connection of 2, 3 or 4 ca-bles. Suitable for copper or aluminium insulated cables, sin-gle or double insulated from 6 to 50 sq mm. Ideal for connect-ing cables in pillar boxes, buried connection pits and street-light columns. Features: * Fully submersible and totally waterproof. * Torque controlling shear head bolts for correct contact pres-
sure. * Insulation piercing on all cable taps. * No need to strip cable. * Flexible sealing cable ports that are not affected by the an-
gle of cable entry. * Fitted with push-on protective bolt caps. * IP67 rated Testing Specifications: Tested to ANSI C119.1-1986 Tested to URD Pit Connector Technical Specification (Vic). Application Notes: Use only a 13mm AF, six point hexagon socket to tighten bolts. All other connections made on cables connected with this product must also be waterproof to prevent moisture ingress through the cable into the connector. 50 sq mm SDI may require the removal of the outer sheath, depending on insulation thickness and conductor compaction. The port sealing cap should be left in place when connecting 6 sq mm cables and removed for larger sizes Cables less than 6 sq mm may be connected by doubling over the last 2cm of cable prior to insertion. The port sealing cap should also be left in place. Each cable port should be only used twice. The blue bolt must be replaced with a yellow bolt to identify the second use of a cable port.

Fitting Instructions - A 19mm AF hex socket is required Separate the main cable cores sufficiently to allow yoke section to be fitted around the conductor and strip the insulation from the core equal to the connector length plus 10mm. Thoroughly abrade the exposed conductor and loosely assemble the lower limb (mains side) of the connector around the core by fitting the bridge piece, inserting the pressure pad and tightening the mains screws until the connector is positively located. Set and locate the branch core, then cut to length, strip insulation to suit and thoroughly abrade the exposed conductor before assembling into the connector as described above. Complete the operation by tightening down the mains screws consecutively, one turn at a time, until both heads shear. Repeat the operation for the branch screws. If copper conductors are to be jointed, they should be wrapped in brass gauze in order to improve the electrical stability of the interface connection.

WB4 Mains Branch connector Principal application Primarily for four core sector shaped stranded cables, in both copper and aluminium. The branch channel designed to accept the branch conductor in any orientation to suit any particular joint configuration. Shear-head screws ensure that the correct clamping pressure is applied to give reliable connection, eliminating the need for the use of specialised tools on site. The connector is supplied individually packed, complete with fitting instructions, full details of which are below. Brass gauze can be supplied upon request for use with copper conductors.

Fitting Instructions Separate the main cable cores to enable the main channel of the connector to be fitted around the conductor. Strip 70mm length of insulation (connector length plus 10mm) from the core at the selected connection position. Thoroughly abrade the exposed section of the conductor, pass the lower channel (mains side) of the connector yoke around the conductor and loosely assemble by inserting the pressure pad and bridge piece. Tighten the screws until the connector is positively located on the main but do not shear off the screw heads at this stage. Set the branch core and cut the required length. Strip the insulation to suit and thoroughly abrade the exposed conductor. Assemble as for the main connection. Complete the operation by tightening the mains screws consecutively, one quarter of a turn at a time, until both heads are sheared. Repeat the operation for the branch side. If copper conductors are to be jointed, they should be wrapped in brass gauze before insertion into yoke.

IEC 60900 requires that all tools comply with various dimensional stan-dards, to ensure that the tools meet important ergonomic design principles
and are safe and easy to use. (Clause 5.3) DIMENSIONS
The dielectric test proves the integrity and performance of the tool’s insulation. After conditioning in a water bath or wet cham-ber for 24 hrs, 10kV is applied for 3 minutes to the tool whilst it is immersed. The leakage current is measured and checked for
compliance, the value of which depends on the type and size of tool. (Clause 5.5)
DIELECTRIC STRENGTH
An indentation test is carried out to ensure the tool’s insulating properties are retained after being subjected to a point impact. After the impact, the insulation must withstand 5kV for 3 minutes without puncture, sparkover
or flashover. (Clause 5.6)
INDENTATION
The adhesion test ensures that the tool’s insulating coat will not slip, move or separate from the metal parts of the tool. After conditioning at 70 deg C for 168 hours, the tool is allowed to cool to an ambient temperature, then various forces are applied to test the adhesion properties and per-
formance. (Clause 5.7)
ADHESION
Each type of tool is subjected to mechanical tests to ensure com-pliance with various ISO or national standards and to ensure
the tool has the necessary mechanical strength for its intended application.
MECHANICAL

Each type of tool is subjected to an impact test to ensure the insulation can with-stand normal daily wear and tear without serious damage. Impact tests are car-
ried out at ambient, low and extremely low temperatures. (Clause 5.4) IMPACT
