Don’t let the ‘interim’ and ‘temporaries’ above create the wrong impression. Knowle is alive and well and the temporaries will be made permanent or new volunteers elected at the AGM. Note: This magazine is free to all members and friends of Knowle URC. We rely on donations to help cover the costs. If you can help please give your donation either to the editor or treasurer.

Minister’s Letter

Christ is risen. He is risen indeed!

These are the traditional words used at the start of Easter Day Worship and they celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord. Resurrection is not just about Easter Day: it is about everyday life. Perhaps that is clearer in the Spring when the flowers start breaking through the earth - but I am not really talking about resurrection as it appears to us in nature. Resurrection happens in people's lives. Things can change - and the clouds that have hung over you for what seems to be an eternity can be lifted. The difficulty is in believing that resurrection is possible, that there is light at the end of the tunnel, that there is a chance of new life. When the followers of Jesus gathered together in a locked room (John 20:26), after Jesus had been executed, the possibility of resurrection must have been far from their minds. Surely there was no way that things could get better? But they did. And from that dispirited group of individuals sprang the church which grew and grew. Jesus defeated death on the cross and showed that nothing can stop God's love, not even death. There is hope, because he is alive, and he is with us now - and if we keep trusting in him, and if we keep faithful, and if we pray with great patience, then resurrection will come for us, through Him. We should trust in the words of Jesus: “I will be with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20) Kevin Jones

Christian Aid Week This will be from the 14th to the 20th May this year and I am hoping that we will be able to raise as much as previously, if not more, by our door to door collection. If you can spare the time to deliver and collect envelopes for approximately 30 to 40 houses on an estate, please tell me and we can add to the group who did this last year from our church. Pat Easter Service Traditionally Junior Church has contributed to the services at Easter, usually on Palm Sunday, but this year we are hoping to include a number of the congregation in a little drama on Easter Sunday. This is simply to warn you that you may be called upon to volunteer! Pat

Cluster Outing It has been suggested that this year we may like to go to the grounds of Himley Hall on Sunday 18th June and join in the Dudley “Songs of Praise” evening. To make it a cluster outing, the idea is that we go earlier, say 4.30 p.m., and have a picnic together, chat, play games and enjoy the grounds and then sing along with several thousands people at 7.00 p.m. We would need to make our own way there and back The organisers want to have a rough idea of numbers for the purpose of producing song sheets, and wish to know by the end of March! So have a look in your diaries as soon as possible. Women’s World Day of Prayer “What would you do if Jesus walked in now?” This was the question that Carolyn Cornfield asked in her address at our W.W.D.P.Service on Friday Evening 3rd March. About 105 people attended the service which was arranged by the women of South Africa. The service was colourful and joyous and yet very thought-provoking particularly about HIV/AIDS and homeless children. As the host church we were thanked for our hospitality, our warm church and our warm welcome. The collection amounted to £204.82 Kath Vale

REMEMBER THE BLESSING We met and we married a long time ago, We worked for long hours, when wages were low, No T.V. no wireless, no bath, times were hard, Just cold water taps, and a walk up the yard. No holidays abroad, no posh carpets on floors, But we had coal on the fire, and we didn’t lock doors. Our children arrived, no pill in those days, And we brought them all up without any state aid. They were quite safe to go into the park, Then, old folk could go out in the dark. No valium, no drugs, no L.S.D., We cured most of’ our ills with a good cup of’ tea. But if you were sick, you were treated at once, No fill up a form and come back in six months. No vandals, no muggings, there was nothing to rob, and we were quite rich with a couple of’ Bob. People were happier in those far off days, kinder and caring in so many ways. Milkman and paperboys used to whistle and sing, A night at the pictures was “having a fling.” We all get our share of struggle and strife and we just have to face it, thats the pattern of life. But now I am old, I look back through the years, I don’t think of the hard times, the trouble, the tears, I remember the blessing, our home, and our love, We shared them together, and I thank God for love.

Thank you Ken For the 13 years and all the time and energy you spent editing our magazine. As someone who was responsible for typing it before you took over, I know the amount of time just that part takes. But you have been the editor, the typist, organized the print run and sent out copies to distant members. Recently, to help them in a crisis, For two years, you even made a joint publication of our and Christ Church’s magazine. The quality of the magazine has been superb.

A heartfelt thank you from your grateful friends. Graham Tall
