PROGRAMME NANTES 2018 PRE CONGRESS 21 - 25 March CONGRESS 25 - 29 March POST CONGRESS 29 March - 3 April ICS France International Camellia Congress PARC DU GRAND BLOTTEREAU 9 hectares of parkland set in a property of 37.5 hectares with its plants nursery, its camellias collection and its tropical green- houses. Opposite an 18th century mansion by the architect Ceineray the landscaped park holds a greenhouse collection – unique in France – of exotic plants, a French-style garden, a Mediterranean rockery and banana trees. PARK CEMETERY ARBORETUM A 50-hectares park with a collection of remarkable species, over 11 000 trees and bushes, with a remarkable camellia collection, patterned on the one at the Jardin des plantes. PARC DE LA GAUDINIÈRE A stuning mountain landscape (12 hectares). In this high-quality wooded park, centuries old chestnut and oak trees stand beside exotic trees introduced in the 19th century. PARC DE PROCÉ An English-style landscaped park (12 hectares). Designed by Domi- nique Noisette in 1866, this park offers a number of viewing areas. Its statuary heritage tells the history of Nantes. Remarkable trees have been planted here, some are hundreds of years old : Service trees, At- las cedars, sequoias. The manor house was built in 1789, and in front of it stands a magnificent Virginia tulip tree, which happens to be one of the oldest in France and is equal in size to those growing in the south-east of the US. In spring, the park is beautifully decorated by the azalea and camelia borders. HONFLEUR (NORMANDY) Its port, the Vieux Bassin (Old Bassin surrounded by pictu- resque narrow houses) and the Lieutenance, the Faubourg Sainte Catherine (Sailors’ area bordered by the sea) and its church, the Enclos area ( the heart of former medieval forte- ress) and its Greniers à Sel (Salt Warehouses). QUIMPER (BRITTANY) "Breton” cultural capital city" Quimper, a “town of art and history” is known for its cathedral, which is said to be the best example of Gothic religious archi- tecture in Brittany. West of the cathedral is the atmospheric old town, where you’ll find many half-timbered houses dating from the 14th century. Its cobbled streets are named after old job titles and Place au Beurre, where butter was sold, is one of Quimper’s prettiest locations. BOTANICAL GARDEN CENTRE (GAUJACQ, SOUTH WEST FRANCE) Visit starting with « La Cameleraie », gathering one of the largest collection of camellias in Europe before moving to the “Plantarium”, built exclusively as a garden conservatory, a place for adaptation experiments, hydration and multipli- cation to produce the plants of the botanical garden centre Botanical concert : a unique & exclusive initiative in France combining scientific presentation and a concert based on the sounds made by plants.
