PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES FROM IEDP:

Shiraz is at a juncture in his career where this kind of programme can significantly assist in his transition to the next level of performance and contribution to Nedbank and the country as a whole. The current global economic stagnation as well as the country’s/continent’s socio-economic challenges present a huge risk to building and maintaining a sustainable business. Whilst significant and overwhelming challenges exist, there are also opportunities that exist that must be taken advantage of. Great organisations are ones that do not only survive difficult times, but grow and flourish in these times.  A programme like this will help him improve his performance and that of his team to contribute to the organisation’s aspirations and vision of becoming Africa’s most admired Bank by 2020. Given the many years of business experience that he has gained, he believes that he will benefit even more from such a programme and will be able to gain valuable insights and identify with the knowledge gained from the programme. This will make it easier to practically apply knowledge and insights gained, without it only being a theoretical exercise. Through this programme, he will get the opportunity to learn from experts in their respective fields around building successful and sustainable (financial services) businesses during tough economic times in a low growth economy, politically trying times and overwhelming social challenges, thereby increasing shareholder, stakeholder and national value – this includes peers and experts appointed to facilitate the programme. Shiraz will further be exposed to best-in-class organisations and their leadership who have been successful in similar and different circumstances – how do they adapt to a very volatile and uncertain environment and take advantage of the opportunities that exist or to create opportunities through innovative and disruptive interventions. He will consequently drive himself and his team to equip and upskill themselves constantly to contribute positively to the organisation’s and national agenda. Shiraz will be able to provide a different perspective to his peers given his extensive knowledge of supply chain management. He will share knowledge and insights gained with his team and enable it to be more entrepreneurial as well as collaborate more effectively across the organisation. Lastly, he will also be in a position to develop suppliers both large and (especially) SME’s to grow and develop their businesses to make them more competitive and profitable, create employment, innovate and manage risk
