The Challenge and the Solution

According to WFP and the World Bank, we are entering a new Global Food Crisis: “Food prices are near their historic peaks, and food price volatility is widely seen as the “new normal.” The impact has been devastating for global communities, especially the poorest families and young people. It is noted that “malnutrition contributes to infant, child and maternal illness; decreased learning capacity; lower productivity and higher mortality.” Furthermore, “poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five - 3.1 million children each year.” Overall, “842 million people in the world do not have enough to eat” and the “vast majority of hungry people (827 million) live in developing countries, where 14.3 percent of the population is undernourished.”

As part of our commitment to addressing the Global Food Crisis, we leverage the expertise of The Bassiouni Group’s Humanitarian Response, Logistics and Agriculture Practice Groups and work with a range of commodities producers based in strategic locations such as the Black Sea and Asia. Together, we bridge the gap between producers and buyers, and provide a range of high-quality products including wheat, rice and sugar at competitive prices. We are uniquely positioned to work with INGOs, governmental agencies, and corporations to meet the demand.

Our unique experience in Complex Emergencies, Humanitarian Response & Assistance – coupled with our network of local partners in developing countries - provides us with a unique understanding of the strategic, logistical, and operational elements that are required to enable the production and delivery of Sustainable Food sources to at-risk populations in need.

The Challenge and the Solution

Emerging/frontier markets face a major housing crisis due to rapid urbanization and a growing slum population. New and innovative approaches to affordable/sustainable housing are necessary if countries want to take advantage of the demographic shift to make cities inclusive, spur economic growth and expand job opportunities,

A new World Bank report (“Stocktaking of the Housing Sector in Sub-Saharan Africa”), projects that Africa could have as many as 1.2 billion urban dwellers by 2050 and 4.5 million new residents in informal settlements each year, most of whom cannot afford basic formal housing or access mortgage loans.

“Adequate quality housing is critically important for economic growth and social inclusion,” said Mamta Murthi, the World Bank Group’s Acting Vice President for Africa. “Governments will need to join hands with the private sector to facilitate investments in housing by expanding access to and improving the quality of existing stock, while at the same time making it easier for people to access land and housing finance.

As part of our commitment to addressing the Global Housing Crisis, we partner with established and proven partners to develop and deploy solutions. One of our leading partners is U.S.-based 84 Lumber. Established in 1956, 84 Lumber is the largest privately held building materials supplier to professional contractors in the U.S. and the company provides a range of housing solutions including affordable housing products. TBG’s partnership with 84 Lumber

Our unique approach to Housing is built upon reliable and proven technological partners, strong local networks (developers and construction firms) in key markets, a Housing Practice Group and a unique understanding of the demand based on our innovative TBG Housing database that captures real-time data on housing trends in sub-Saharan Africa, LatAm and Southeast Asia. Furthermore, TBG is committed to developing high-quality housing that is economical, environmentally safe, technologically advanced and socially impactful.
