Hands-on Experience

Co-operative Education

Build up your skills and contacts while earning a regular paycheque. Hourly rates range from $10.50 to the mid $20s. Co-operative programs typically combine four years of academic study with three or four 16-week placements that include such prestigious firms as Deloitte, IBM Canada and Pernod Ricard.

Co-op degrees are available in:

Volunteer Internship Placement (VIP) www.uwindsor.ca/vip

VIP students participate in supervised situations at field sites, working with various non-profit or not-for-profit community agencies and government offices. They contribute at least 40 hours of volunteer work over a 10-week period to gain career-related work experience.

Off-Campus Employment

Students may work off-campus after having been enrolled in full-time courses for at least 6 months. You may work on campus from the time of your arrival.

Admission Information

Admission RequirementsADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS COMING FROM OUTSIDE CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES The minimum admission requirements for applicants to First Year are listed below.

Applicants from overseas must send the official documents of their secondary education indicating subjects taken and grades obtained. Notarized English translations are necessary if the documents are not in English. Photocopies are not accepted. In some situations, attested copies of official transcripts may be acceptable. Please contact the Office of the Registrar for further information.

United Kingdom and Commonwealth

Five Passes on the General Certificate of Education including two at the Advanced Level or, four passes on the General Certificate of Education, including three at the Advanced Level. A minimum grade of D is required in the Advanced Levels.

Applicants who receive a “C” grade in final GCE Advanced level examinations will be considered for transfer credit for those courses that have been assessed as equivalent to specified or unspecified University of Windsor courses and are relevant to the student’s academic program. No transfer credit will be granted for Advanced Subsidiary level examinations. (Maximum credit 6 semester courses)

Science must include Advanced Level Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Engineering must include Advanced Level Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Nursing must include Advanced Level English, Biology and Chemistry.

Commerce must include Advanced Level Mathematics.

Bahamas

Freshman Year at College of the Bahamas/a combination of CXC and/or British GCSE/IGCSE examinations and U.S. SAT/ACT test; see also requirements for the United States and United Kingdom and Commonwealth.

Caribbean

Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) offered by the Caribbean Examinations Council: the complete diploma including a total of at least six units and all subjects required for admission to your intended program. Applicants may be considered for a conditional admission while in their final year. A minimum final grade of “III” is required to be considered for transfer credit.

United States

In order to qualify for admission an applicant must present scholastic records indicating good preparation and ability to undertake a university degree program. Graduates of accredited high schools will normally qualify for admission if the cumulative high school grade point average is 2.75 (B-) or above.

Each applicant must present scores from either the American College Testing Program Assessment (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) offered by the College Entrance Examination Board.

The student should rank in the upper third of the class.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) DIPLOMA PROGRAMFor admission to first Year: Full diploma must be completed with passes in six subjects with at least three at the Higher Level and with a grade total of at least 24 and no mark less than 4. In addition, the candidates must meet the prerequisites specific to the Faculty to which they are seeking admission.

For transfer credit: IBD applicants who have successfully completed the full diploma with a grade total of 28 or more (exclusive of additional points which may be awarded for the successful completion of the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge) may be granted a general elective course credit, depending on program selection, for each Higher Level subject completed with a score of 5 (80-89%) or better, for a maximum of 4 general elective course credits.

Advanced Placement Applicants with a 4 out of 5 grade on their final Advanced Placement (AP) examinations may be considered for transfer credit to a maximum of four semester courses.

English Language ProficiencyIf your native language is not English, you must demonstrate proficiency in it to be considered for admission. This can be done in the following ways:

For Undergraduate Programs:

1. A minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or

2. A minimum score of 60 on the Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL); or

3. A minimum score of 85 on the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan (MELAB); or

4. A minimum score of 220 with a T.W.E. 4.5 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (T.O.E.F.L.), Computer-based Test (CBT) 220 with T.W.E. 4.5, Internet-based Test (IBT) 83 with essay 20, or

5. Successful completion of at least three years of formal, full-time study (not less than four courses per semester) at an English language secondary or post-secondary institution.

For Graduate, Professional and Executive Programs:

English Language Improvement Program (ELIP) www.uwindsor.ca/elip

Our ELIP program is designed to prepare non-native speakers of english with the language skills necessary for university study. Successful completion of ELIP 3 meets the English Proficiency Requirements for academic admission. This student-focused program has small classes to accommodate individual needs and learning goals. Areas of instruction include grammar, punctuation, essay structure, note taking, critical thinking, and oral presentations. Field trips, social activities and class excursions are other popular features.

Students are placed within one of four levels in ELIP, based on a language diagnostic test. Sessions are held in fall (September- December), winter (January-April) and intersession (May-August). An accelerated program is offered every July- August. Classes are scheduled based on enrolment and student placement. Morning, afternoon and evening classes are to be expected.

Study PermitsUnless you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, you need a document called “Study Permit” to study at the University of Windsor. When you are admitted, you will receive an official University of Windsor letter confirming the program of admission and the official start date. The original of this letter is presented as part of your application to the Canadian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate that services your country. Only U.S. citizens may apply at the port of entry to Canada. For information on how to obtain your Study Permit visit www.cic.gc.ca. If an Entry Visa is required, it will be issued with the Study Permit approval.

Accommodations and Services

On-campus Housing

Living in residence means you are close to classes, the computer centre and libraries, campus food outlets, and a strong support system to help you adjust and excel.

In first year, you will live in a double room in one of three residence halls. You need to indicate on your application form if you prefer a co-ed or single gender environment.

Residence Application Information

Students applying for residence are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. A $500 deposit is required in order to process the application form.

Be sure to read the Residence Licence and Meal Plan Agreement before applying.

What Will It Cost?

Undergraduate and Graduate Tuition Fees www.uwindsor.ca/cashiers

The range of tuition fees for University of Windsor programs runs from $18,100 for two semesters for undergraduate arts to $27,000 for four semesters for an MBA.

To determine what your tuition fees would be, please visit the Cashier’s office website and click on the Fee Estimator. Please note that the tuition fees provided by the estimator are per SEMESTER, not annual. The total cost of books will vary by program, but you should set aside at least $1000 CDN per semester.

Scholarships

The University of Windsor provides an array of programs which encourage and recognize academic achievement.

Entrance Awards and Scholarships: You will be automatically considered for a limited number of University of Windsor International Student Entrance Awards/Scholarships when you apply for undergraduate admission to the University. No matter which program you choose, your academic achievements will be reviewed. Your eligibility for a University of Windsor International Student Entrance Award/Scholarship will be confirmed by letter if you are chosen as a recipient.

University of Windsor Women in Engineering Scholarship valued at $1000 (undergraduate) for women entering the Engineering faculty directly from high school are also available to International students.

How to Apply

If you wish to apply to the University of Windsor, you must present official (or attested) documents of your secondary education, indicating subjects taken and grades obtained. Photocopies are not accepted. In addition to the requirements listed, you must meet the prerequisites specific to the faculty in which you are seeking admission.

For Undergraduate Programs:

Step 1

Students can apply directly to the University of Windsor via our on-line application available by visiting: www.uwindsor.ca/registrar/how-to-apply-1

Step 2

Once the application is received, students will receive an email with their UWin student number and access code. Official documentation can be sent directly to the Office of the Registrar. Please provide interim finals/predicted grades, and final grades when available.

Step 3

Upon receipt of your documentation, you should receive a response within approximately 48 hours with an admissions decision.

For Graduate and Professional Programs:

If you are interested in a graduate program, please follow the procedures noted above. However, for most graduate programs, you will likely need to submit (1) a letter of intent stating the purpose of pursuing the degree, (2) academic letters of reference, (3) curriculum vitae and, (4) in some cases, test results such as the GMAT for Master of Business Administration. Note that processing of graduate applications does take a few weeks longer than undergraduate applications.
