POSITION: YCG INTERN
CONTRACT: 100 VOLUNTEER HOURS & 100 PAID HOURS ($10.25/hr)
PROGRAM: YOUNG CITY GROWERS – YOUTH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Young City Growers is seeking to fill eight student intern positions through the Young City Growers – Youth Internship Program. Young City
Growers interns will be expected to complete 200 paid and volunteer hours during 2014. YCG Interns will be expected to complete at least 60 of
their 100 volunteer hours before qualifying for their paid hours. Volunteer hours will involve attending youth meetings and training workshops,
planting and harvesting, and engaging in other community building and food advocacy opportunities that become available through the internship
year. Paid internship hours will involve working alongside the YCG leadership team to run and maintain a new urban micro-commercial farm in
Waterloo in partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University. Interns will be involved in developing a sustainable micro farm business model, planting,
cultivating, harvesting and selling locally grown, organic food. The Young City Growers – Youth Internship Program is developed to engage youth in
an opportunity to develop skills in entrepreneurship, sustainable agriculture, community advocacy, public speaking and career development.
Applicants considered for the Young City Growers need to be between 15 and 30 years of age and will need to demonstrate interest/volunteer or
work experience in social environmental and/or food justice issues.
