What is DairyNet?

A network for the development of smallholder family farms by promoting the dairy value chain in Bangladesh

Overall Objective

Making markets work for the poor by developing service markets, income generation and increasing competitiveness of selected actors in the market following value chain approach.

• CARE- Bangladesh (USA based INGO, working in 70 countries)

• Plan International- Bangladesh (UK based INGO, working in 66 countries)

Where DairyNet Works

Dairy Net partners are not limited to but mostly concentrate their interventions in the northern part of Bangladesh.

DairyNet’s operating principles

• To promote a shared commitment to develop the dairy value chain in northern districts;

• To contribute to improved policy environment for the dairy sector, consistent with the members agenda;

• To develop and implement projects/ interventions to inform and advance the dairy sector agenda;

• To develop options for addressing human capacity and skills development of the members;

• To share information on best practices and lessons learned with members/ partner organizations in the public and private sectors.

DairyNet deals with the areas:

• Capacity building of milk producer through service providers (livestock health workers and other public-private stakeholders)

• Financial service market development for producers and other market actors in facilitation with banks and other non-bank financial institutions

• Private sector engagement for milk purchasing and service provision to maintain strong relationships in the value chain

• Breed improvement (AI) activities to influence the government, private sector and other stakeholders

• Improving the policy environment for the whole Dairy sector in Bangladesh

Event organized by DairyNet A workshop on "Building

synergy for the development of dairy value chain in Bangladesh" was held on May 27, 2009 at Hotel Naz Garden, Bogra.

The objective of the workshop was to develop a working team of common interest groups and provide evidence based suggestions to the government and the other stakeholders for the betterment of the dairy sector.
