Dr. S. Padmanabha has taken charge as the Principal of T. John Institute of Technology on June 4, 2012. An accomplished engineer with a Ph.D in Faculty of Mechanical Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, he has over 23 years of teaching experience. His expertise lies in IndustrialEngineering, Operations Research, Leadership, Human Resources Management, Resource Utilization, and Organizational Development.

On June 1, 2012, Dr. Shikha Tiwari was appointed as the Principal of T. John College. She is a scholar with a commendable academic record and being in the field of academia for long, possesses a rich and varied experience. Dr. Shikha has been offering her valuable services to T. John College since 2002 and has been the Head of the Department of Humanities and Languages apart from being the Vice Principal of T. John College from 2006-2008.

Mr. Soujit Das, Head of HR, Microland gave a talk on employment opportunities for under graduates and post graduates on

May 26. He spoke on the skill requirements that are asked for by the multinational firms in corporate India. MBA students from TJC, TJIT and TIMS attended the programme. Prof. Loganathan, Director, Management Department, TJC was also present along with other faculty members.

• T. John Business School congratulates Mr. Kapil Joshi and Mr. Abhishek Kumar Tewari, students of IV Semester MBA under MSU for having been placed with Cognizant Technologies and Accenture respectively.

Comed-K entrance exam was held at T. John Group of Institutions on May 6. Around 1500 students were present for the exam

accompanied by their parents. The exam was conducted in two sessions 10 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 3 pm.

The exams were held under the supervision of Chief Superintendent Dr. Mahabaleshwar Bhat, Dr. Sudeendra and Prof. H.P Sreenivas, ably supported by the management and TJIT faculty. The parents who were waiting for their ward took the opportunity to interact with staff from the Admission Dept on admission/hostel facilities/fees/registration etc. Parents were given information on B.Ed courses.

Alumni 2012 was a great success at T. John Group of Institutions. It was held on June

30, 2012, where 78 alumni who have graduated from this institution in various years came together to have fun and frolic and also to meet each other after all these years. It was indeed a very delightful moment for each one of them thinking about their alma matter in their good old days sharing their experiences of their student life in the college and also appreciating and praising their lecturer and Principal. All of them have accepted the fact that it was only because of this prestigious institute that they are in this position today. The function was attended by the Chairman of T. The event was conducted by Mr. Rajesh Naik, Marketing Head TJGI and Mr. Arun Nathaniel, Director of Hotel Management Dept, T. John College.

• Mr. Sriram’s article on Service Quality has been published in a book bearing ISBN No.978-93-8050. The article was presented in a conference conducted by A.V.V.M. Sri Pushpam College, Poondi.

Mr. Santhosh Thimmaih addressed the students and talked about the various

opportunities available in the market for management students and the capabilities and skill expected of them. Prof. Sunil B Rao, HOD of TIMS held an orientation session for the students on the skills required for the finance industry.

A prize distribution ceremony was organized by T. John

Institute of Management Science on June 20, 2012. Winners were awarded with certificates and trophies for the managerial events like Mock Interviews, Know your Business Leaders, Business Quiz and Case study. Competition was held among MBA II Sem, B. COM III Sem and BBM III Sem students. Chief guests for the day included honorable Chairman Dr.

Prof. Sunil B Rao, HOD-TIMS, had organized a case study session on ‘Dabbawala’. Presented by MBA II (TIMS) students in detail, the study brought to light many interesting facts.

Case Study is a useful tool in teaching as it improves the analytical skills of students and also hones their organizational decision making ability. Faculty members, Ms Seema Begum, Dr. Chitradevi and Mr. Naveen Kumar were the judges for the session.

Students from TIMS III B.Com bagged the 1st prize for Business Quiz. The winner’s trophy was handed over by honorable Chairman Dr. Thomas P John.

In the book titled ‘A Study on Domestic Airline Companies in India’, the paper by Dr. S Chitra Devi (Emerging issues on Service Sector) got published (Pg: 39-41).

• Induction Program was organized by TIMS on June 28, 2012. A seminar was conducted for the fresher’s to motivate them on the academics ahead by Dr. Johri, Principal of TIMS.

• Prof. Sunil B Rao, HOD, conducted a seminar on ‘B. Com Career Advantages’.

• Dr. Chitradevi conducted a seminar on Motivation where she gave various examples of business tycoons like Mark Zukerberg, Adithya Mittal, Steve Jobs and Sunil Mittal to motivate the students in thinking differently and striving to achieve their dreams. Mrs. Debasree Sen De gave a presentation on the opportunities in the marketing field.

Dr. Gyanendrsa B S Johri, Principal of TIMS organized campus recruitment for the management students. Mr. Santhosh Thimmaih was the Chief Guest at the recruitment drive since he is a consultant with most of the financial companies.

‘Know Your Business Leader’ was organized by Dr. Johri, Principal of TIMS. In this event the students has to select a business tycoon and talk about the core strategies that made them successful and this helped the students understand the skills required to lead the market and adapt to a constantly changing environment.

Dr. Johri organized a business quiz for the students. The quiz was divided into five different rounds: Tag Mania; Current Affairs;

Mock interviews were conducted for II Sem MBA students to develop their confidence and enhance preparedness for their recruitment interviews in the last semester. The event was organized by Dr. Johri, Principal of TIMS.

Mr. Roshan P Thomas, Mr. Sidram A Randhir Banahatti and Ms. Bulbul Khoda of VIII Semester Information Science & Engineering received the Best Paper Award for their paper titled ‘GPS Based Automobile Tracking System for Android Users’ at the National Conference on Emerging Trends in Computer Engineering and Technologies organized by T. John College, Bangalore.

3. Ms. Jinju Joby and Ms. Tanu Kaushik (VI Semester ISE) received the Best Paper Award for their paper entitled ‘A Study on Intrusion Detection Systems’ at RATE 2012 organized by T. John Institute of Technology.

4. Mr. Gaurav Agarwal of VIII Semester CSE was the recipient of Best Paper Award for his paper on Network Security at INSTINCTS’12 organized by T. John Institute of Technology.

Singh, all students of Electronics and Communication Engg. presented papers at SRISHTI 2012, a state level project exhibition and competition for students conducted at Sahaydri College of Engg. and Management, Mangalore in May. They were guided by Prof. Narayanaswamy and Prof. Electa Alice. Second place was awarded to Arshad Pasha and Priyanka Desai.

Faculty Development ProgrammeProf. Guruprasad, ECE dept, attended a five day faculty development programme on Power Issues in Multi Core Architecture and Green Computing conducted at C. Byregowda Institute of Technology in June.

Guest LectureDepartment of MCA, TJIT organized a guest lecture for

MCA students on ‘Design and Development of Campus wide

Intranet’ by Shri R Chandrasekaran, Scientist from DRDO, on

April 28, 2012. Around 100 students of II and IV Semesters of

MCA, 40 students from TJC and 12 faculty members from MCA

departments of both TJIT and TJC attended the lecture. Shri.

R Chandrasekaran discussed his experience in establishing both

internet and intranet on campus of about 100 acres comprising

about 46 divisions. He also talked on various topics like Cloud

Computing and virus and anti-virus software.

T. JOHN COLLEGE

Faculty Development Programme for the faculty of TJC was conducted on May 30 by Dr. Swarnalatha and on June 1 by Ms. Uma Gopal and Mr. Satish S. Prabhu. The focus of the programme was on mentoring and teaching methodology to equip the teachers with appropiate tools for effective teaching. There were two sessions on the first day, ‘Innovative Pedagogical Practices’ and ‘Mentoring’. There were two more sessions on the last day, ‘The Influential Teacher’ and ‘Methodology’.

TJC conducted its orientation programme for teaching and non teaching staff who are less than 6 months old in the organization on June 16. Dr. Shikha Tiwari, Principal of TJC gave a brief introduction on the college and discussed about the responsibilities of the staff and the different policies. Dr. Nilanjana Basu, Vice-Principal of TJC explained Rockefeller Habits and its importance to the participants. Mrs. Mohini Bhat, ISO Co-ordinator of TJC briefed the faculty members about the requirements of ISO. Mr. Shijo MIST Co-ordinator of TJC explained MIST and its utility to the group. At the end of the programme the participants interacted over lunch which was organized by Mr. Chinni Sridhara.

Induction programme for undergraduate students in TJC was conducted on June 27 at the BHM Seminar Hall.

The programme began with the registration of new students. The honourable guests for the program were Reverend Fr. Shibu and (Ret’d.) Wg. Cdr. D. A. K. Yohan. The programme was also graced by Chairman Dr. Thomas P. John, Campus Director (Retd.) Wg. Cdr. P. Sambasivan, Principal of T. John College Dr. Shikha Tiwari and Vice Principal of T. John College, Dr. Nilanjana Basu, the faculty members of TJC and the parents/guardians of the new students.

The aim of the programme was to give the new students an overview of the college, its achievements, objectives, rules and regulations, infrastructure, facilities, its vision & mission. The ‘TJC Information Booklet’ got launched at the programme.

MBA II Sem students from the Management Department of TJC visited TVS Motors on Hosur Road on May 5. The students were divided into two groups and taken around the factory. The students got an opportunity to see and understand the different processes like assembly of motorcycles, painting of the vehicles and the different tests the vehicles undergo before finally being cleared for selling.

Permission for the tour was provided by Mr. Vignesh, HR Dept. and he accompanied the students on the tour inside the factory. The students were accompanied by faculties, Prof M. S. Ranganatha Swamy and Ms. Shantana.

• Cargill Foods India (P) Ltd, a US based MNC which has its own Indian Subsidiary visited the campus on May 5. The interview process involved an aptitude test, GD and face to face interviews. Interviews were conducted by a panel comprising of Mr. Ambuj Khurana, Regional Sales Manager – South and West, Mr. Sajith, Area Sales Manager, Tamil Nadu, Ms. Rohita Singh, Area Sales Manager – Modern Trade, Karnataka and Mr. Sachin, Area Sales Manager, General Trade, Karnataka Region. Mr. Punith A, Mr. Sudhir Suriyan, Mr. Vahidmiyya Babumiyya and Mr. Rikku were selected. The candidates have already joined the company and are currently undergoing induction-cum-training in Pune, Maharashtra.

• ICICI Bank, the largest private sector bank in the country visited the campus on May 3. Mr. C B Ghanashyam, Branch Manager, and Mr. Amit Barui, HR Manager of ICICI Bank Ltd. conducted the interviews for MBA students. 34 candidates took part in the interview and 28 of them were selected. Selected candidates joined the firm on May 15.

Placement

Department of Management Studies, TJC organized a guest lecture by Dr. Ritika Sinha, Board of Education, Canara Bank School of Management, Bangalore University on June 28. The topic of the lecture was Internship Guidance and Research Methodology. The session was attended by II Semester MBA students and faculty members from the department. The session was interactive and saw the students throw a volley of questions seeking clarifications on internship procedures and methodology at various institutes.

Value added classes were conducted by the faculty members of the Dept. of Languages for II Semester MBA, II & IV Semester MCA students from May 7-31. The topics dealt with were Public Speaking, Presentation Skills, Enhancement of Vocabulary, Group Discussion, etc. The program aimed at enhancing students’ communication skills, writing skills, presentation skills and their confidence level to face job interviews.

A 10 day Bridge Course was held for the I Semester students of TJC from June 27. Courses on Spoken English, Written English and Personality Development were the highlights of the

bridge course which were conducted by the Dept. of Languages. Ms. Nirmala from the Dept. of QT conducted mathematics classes and Mr. Chinni Sridhara from the Dept. of Physical Education took the students for trekking to Bannerghatta National Park. The bridge course was a good beginning for the new students providing them with an opportunity to learn, adjust and familiarize themselves to the work ethos at TJC.

wORKSHOP ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTy RIGHTSDepartment of BioSciences, TJC organized a two day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights from May 14-15, 2012 in collaboration with Biozone Research Technologies, Chennai. Dr. T.N. Shanmugam, Director of Center for Intellectual Property Rights, Anna University, Chennai was the Chief Guest for the workshop. Mr. Soumendas, Mr. K. Varaprasad and Mr. Sasidharan from Patent Office, Chennai delivered lectures on the importance of patenting and IPR. Students of M.Sc Biotechnology & M.B.A participated in the workshop.

Students of M.Sc. Biotechnology (IV Semester), T John College visited Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Research Institute on May 17, 2012. They were accompanied by Mr. N. Babu (HOD) and Mr. Adil Khan, Department of Biosciences.

Students had an introductory session by Dr. Elango in which he shared his valuable knowledge about Biotechnology. The students also visited different Biotech laboratories, namely Cytogenetics Lab, Molecular Genetics Lab and Metabolic Lab. They gained a lot of insight into the different research activities

RESULTS:Results for M.Sc BT III Semester exams (January 2012) were declared and the class secured 100% pass aggregate. M.Sc BT and BC I Semester (February 2012) and B.Sc BT II Semesters results (April 2012) were also declared.

London School of Arts has 6 colleges in its campus, offering specialized courses in fashion and apparel design. The lecture was attended by students of III and V Sem FAD students along with the faculties Ms. Yashaswini, Ms. Thejaswini, Ms. Hemalatha, Mr. Ravindranath and Mr. Rajesh Babu.

Students of V semester BHM went on an industrial visit to Heritage Winery, Channapatna, Bangalore on June 23, 2012. They were accompanied by Mr. Satish Kumar, Mr. Thirumoorthy and Mr. Manoj Gedam, faculty members from the Department of Hotel Management. The students got to witness all the stages of wine making and were exposed to the process of maturity of wine. The session concluded with wine tasting.

Department of Computer Applications conducted NACCET 2012 from April 11 - 12, 2012. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Ramachandra Gowda (MLC, Karnataka), Mr. Muralidhar (Bangalore University, BOE, MCA chairman), Chairman (TJGI), Campus Director (TJGI) & Vice Principal (TJC). 200 papers from across the country were presented during the two day conference. Eminent scholars from the field of computer science were the judges for each session.

A class on Communication Skills was conducted for MCA students by P. S Vinutha from Virtuosity on May 8. The session included a test for students on their vocabulary and later on suggestions were given on it for improvement

Students of MCA IV Semester along with two faculties Mr. Vasanth C Bhagawat and Ms. Veena from Department of Computer Applications, TJC visited Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Bangalore on May 25. The visit helped students to know more about Supercomputer ‘PARAM’ and was followed by a session on ‘Awareness on Network security’.

Director of MCA Department, Dr. Arul Lawrence published a paper in the International Journal on Information Security. The topic was ‘HBH Multicast Distribution Through Recursive UniCast Tree’, Volume 2 Issue 5.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS

1. Students of TJCP visited British Biologicals, Arekere, Bangalore on June 29, 2012. Technical Head, Mr. Manjunath explained the process of manufacturing disease specific nutrient powder. He also demonstrated the various steps involved in quality control with the help of staff working in the laboratory.

2. Students of TJCP visited Micro Labs Ltd., Kumbalgodu Industrial Area, Bangalore on June 19, 2012. During the visit, they

observed the production of medicines like Dolo-650, Rifampicin etc.

3. Students of TJCP visited Bangalore Dairy and observed the pasteurization process of milk, preparation of butter and packaging of milk on June 19, 2012. The orientation by Mr. Srinivasa Moorthy, Deputy Manager, Bangalore Dairy was very informative. He explained the history of Bangalore Dairy, plant construction and its efficiency at producing milk with extended stability.

4. Students visited Coca Cola Company, Bangalore, on June 12, 2012. Students were exposed to the production, storage and bottling process of cold drinks under its brand.

Fight Against Drug Abuse TJCN visited Gunasheela Invitro Fertilization Clinic

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed on June 26, to remind us of our utmost priority which is to combat the increasing rise in the case of narcotics addiction among today’s youth. ‘Global action for healthy communities without drugs’ is the theme of the year for world drug campaign.

On International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Department of Psychiatric Nursing of TJCN conducted a rally to make the public aware about the consequences of drug abuse. Under the leadership of Mr. Chinni Sridharan (Physical Educator), Mrs. Josephine Cynthia (Asst. Professor, Psychiatric Nursing) and Ms. Bincy Varghese (Clinical Instructor), a rally was held from Meenakshi Mall, Bangalore that ended at the T. John Group of Institutions. 55 students from III Year B.Sc (N), II Year PB. B.Sc (N) and I & II year M.Sc (N) (Psychiatric Nursing Speciality) participated in the rally. Students distributed pamphlets and conducted role play at the rally.

IV Year Basic B. Sc Nursing students from TJCN visited Gunasheela Invitro Fertilization Clinic at Basavangudi, Bangalore on April 27 and 28. GIVF is the first IVF centre in South India. The students were guided by Dr. Devika Gunasheela. She briefed the students on the various procedures like Invitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer. The students were accompanied by Ms. G T Sartaj Fatima HOD, Department of OBG, Ms. Jayanthi and Ms. Sugirtha.

International Mother’s DayOn June 6, 2012, III Year and IV Year BSc Nursing students from the OBG Nursing Department organized International mother’s day at Lalitha Maternity Hospital. The students engaged in giving a talk on health issues and creating awareness amongst the mothers at the hospital.

Holy Spirit Old Age Home VisitMedical Surgical Nursing Department of TJCN organized a visit to Holy Spirit old age home. The event was organized on May 25, 2012. Health education and cultural programmes were organized by the students of III Year B.Sc Nursing students and they were guided by Mrs. Gladish George. The event was coordinated by Ms. Dharshana and Mr. Saju John.

5. Mr. Satish Gowda of II Sem MCA, TJIT has been selected for Coaching and Training for Wrestling and Judo conducted by the Govt. of India at Sri Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore. He will be getting coaching and training, free of cost from NIS.

Best Team ManagerMr. Chinni Sreedhara was felicitated with the Best Team Manager Award for the year 2011-12 by Bangalore University. Dr. Mylarappa, Registrar, handed over the memento to Mr. Chinni Sreedhara at the awards function held during Annual Physical Directors Meeting at Jnana Jyothi auditorium on June 27, 2012.
