• Signing this document, UN Habitat and Grupo Argos
confirmed their commitment to work together in the
identification, definition and implementation of common

Formalizing the cooperation
Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between UN-Habitat & Grupo Argos
The importance of the Memorandum of Understanding according to Elkin
Velásquez, Director of UN Habitat regional office for Latin America and the
Caribbean:
“Putting into practice UN Habitat global agenda requires fundamental ingredients. First of
all, putting forward a new approach to sustainable urbanization requires the participation
of various actors: the public sector, the civil society and the development banks, but on
top of that, there is a fundamental actor: the private sector.
Grupo Argos appeared as a major representant in Latin America in sharing UN Habitat’s
vision and became a referent for other companies wishing to undertake similar projects.
We are convinced that Latin America won’t be able to develop its cities’ full potential if we
don’t engage with all the actors, including the private sector. Grupo Argos was a pioneer
in sharing our vision, which should be properly recognized.
