ROPS/FOPS Enclosure / Operator Environment

• Excellent visibility – Sturdy ROPS/FOPS provides protection, yet

allows a wide-open view to the attachment and surrounding work

areas. ROPS/FOPS is Level II certified for even more operator

protection in the event of objects falling onto the ROPS/ FOPS –

included as standard equipment.

• Optional front cab door provides wiper/washer and gas-spring

assist to open door, and a sensor to lock out lift arm and bucket

functions when door is open. Optional sliding side windows – front

sections slide rearward. Optional heater/defroster – factory or field

installed. New complete cab enclosure has a single stock order

number for a complete factory-installed cab package.

• Safety glass rear window for lower operator sound levels, keeps

out dirt, debris and rain; and serves as emergency rear exit.

• Handholds on outside and inside of ROPS/FOPS to assist and provide

for easier entry/exit of the operator’s compartment. Steel, slip-resistant

step design, located on lift arm, also protects tilt cylinder hydraulic lines.

• New gray-colored, high-back, cushion seat is standard. Optional new

gray-colored, high-back full-suspension seat allows the operator to

adjust for leg room, and the suspension according to the operator’s

weight (same seats from other new E-Series loaders). Two-inch wide

adjustable and retractable seat belt is standard; three-inch belt is opt.

• Operator restraint bar – The restraint bar is an additional restraining

device (in addition to the seat belt) and a comfortable armrest. When in

the raised position, the restraint bar automatically engages the brakes,

and locks the lift arm, attachment movement, and auxiliary hydraulics.

• Precision controls – Customer choice of: Gehl T-Bar hands-only,

or Hand/foot with mechanical auxiliary hydraulic controls. New

low-effort design controls speed and direction – control efforts

reduced by approximately 25%.

• T-Bar hands-only controls are very operator-friendly and leave

plenty of room for the operator’s feet. This control option includes

a foot throttle as standard. Auxiliary hydraulics are controlled with

operator’s left foot. Hand/foot controls operate with two-handles

for drive/steering control, and two foot pedals for lift and tilt

functions. Right control handle moves inward/outward for auxiliary

hydraulic control.

instrumentation at eye level on the right side of the ROPS/FOPS

• Rated Operating Loads increased: 4240E model - 1,350 lbs. (612 kg)

rating - an increase of 90 pounds over 3935 [3640E model retains

1,050 lbs. (476 kg) rating (same as 3635)].

• Lift arm support device, in contrasting red color per ISO standard,

provided for easy engagement on extended hydraulic lift cylinder

when lift arm is raised for maintenance or service.

• Most pivot pins on lift arm and hydraulic

NEW E-Series 3640E / 4240E FEATURES – Lift Arm

• Four-point support – Dual tilt cylinders and lift arm stop blocks

mounted on front of main frame spread digging forces evenly across the chassis. Bucket corner load stresses are reduced, so the lift arms and quick-attach bracket are stressed less.

• Hydraulic cylinders featuring NitroSteel™ – black-appearance, hardened cylinder rods. NitroSteel provides superior corrosion resistance, improved wear resistance, dent resistance and increased

service life. Dual tilt cylinders provide strong breakout forces.

• Hydraulic self-leveling – Optional feature on new 3640E / 4240E loaders – can be ordered as factory-installed option or field-installed option. When raising the lift arm, a pressure and flow-sensitive valve directs flow to the bucket cylinders, keeping the attachment level during the lifting motion. Operators can concentrate on maneuvering

and lifting for fast cycle times while maintaining the load in the bucket or on pallet forks. Leveling can be manually shutoff or adjusted to operator preference.

NEW E-Series 3640E / 4240E FEATURES - Quick-Attach System

• All-Tach™ quick-attach system – permits quick interchange of

universal-type compatible attachments to increase both versatility

and productivity. The All-Tach system provides easy mounting of all

All-Tach-compatible allied attachments. The 3640E / 4240E feature

dual-lever design for engaging/disengaging the locking mechanism.

• Attachments, through CEAttachments Inc., can readily be installed

and used for multi-purpose compact loader duties. Many

attachments already used on larger E-Series loaders can be used on

these new models, within their capacity ratings.

• Flat-faced hydraulic couplers, as found on larger E-Series models,

are the same on the new 3640E / 4240E for quick interchangeability.

NEW E-Series 3640E / 4240E FEATURES - Wheel Drives

• 4240E features new 8-bolt, heavy-duty design axles.

• 2.0 in. (51 mm) diameter forged steel axles and flanges. Axles are heat-treated on new model 4240E.

• Axles are zero-maintenance with sealed axle bearings – no need for greasing or maintaining oil. New heavier seal design provides excellent sealing to retain grease and avoid dirt, debris and water from entering, without the need for guard plates.

• #80K drive chains with no idlers or adjustments required. This chain-design is ideal for this drive system application. Chains operate in a continuous oil bath in sealed chaincases. Design features no internal chain idlers and no external adjustments.

• Hydraloc™ brake system

• Brakes are applied whenever the restraint bar is in the raised

position, operator is off the seat, or the key switch is turned off.

A manual on/off brake switch on the instrument panel also

activates the brakes.

• Brakes are integral within drive motors. Wet-type, multiple-disc

SAHR (spring-applied/hydraulic release) brakes stop motor shaft

upon activation. Brake system requires zero maintenance.

NEW E-Series 3640E / 4240E FEATURES - Rear Service Access

• Large engine cover is hinged and controlled by gas spring, to

assist lifting and holding in place, and allows easy return of door

to closed/operating position.

• Rear door opens easily on its hinge on the right side, which allows for full access to engine oil dipstick, oil filler cap, air cleaner, battery and other routine inspection and maintenance

points. (Other maintenance is performed with ROPS/FOPS in raised position.)

• Anti-vandalism protection with ability to lock rear door and engine cover by use of a single customer-supplied padlock. A separate padlock can also be applied to secure fuel cap.

• Integrated, twin rear halogen work lights and tail lights –standard equipment.

4240E

• 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated with 46 hp

(34 kW) @ 2600 rpm and 103 lb.-ft. (140 Nm) peak torque.

• Easy access to dipstick and oil fill. Initial oil and filter change required at 50 hours; 500-hour change interval thereafter. (More frequent in more harsh applications.)

• Easy access to air cleaner – dual air filter elements.

• Engine pre-heat (intake manifold heater system) – controlled by rocker switch. Pre-heat system activated when ignition key turned to

“on” position, and pre-heat switch is held “on” (for time period dependent on outside temperature).

• Excellent cold-weather starting characteristics. Optional engine block heater available for extreme cold weather starting assistance.

Muffler

• 3640E – Muffler is mounted to engine exhaust manifold and is spark-

arrestor type.

• 4240E – Muffler is mounted to chassis and has stainless steel flex pipe from exhaust manifold to inlet pipe to allow for flexing and to minimize pipe failures. Muffler is spark-arrestor type.

• Standard-flow auxiliary hydraulics with flat-faced hydraulic couplers

– standard on both model loaders. Couplers are in a convenient

location on the upper, left side of the Powerview® lift arm, allowing

for quick coupling/uncoupling of attachment hydraulic hoses.

(Same couplers as used on other E-Series models.)

• Hydraulic flow rate is adjusted by varying engine speed, and

maximized at full throttle. Theoretical auxiliary hydraulic flow –

14.5 gpm (55 L/min) on 3640E and 16.5 gpm (62 L/min) on 4240E.

• Main system hydraulic relief pressure is 2750 PSI (190 bar).

• Auxiliary hydraulics controls: Left foot pedal on T-Bar hands-only

control units, and left/right actuation of right drive lever handle on

Hand/foot control units.

• Direct-drive hydrostatic transmission pump – mounted directly to

the engine crankshaft through a special coupler connection – 100%

efficient. High-capacity, gear pump provides efficient, high

pressure flow to loader and attachment. Drive mechanism requires

no adjustment and no maintenance.

• Large capacity steel hydraulic reservoir – located in the left, rear of

the loader chassis. Large volume results in the oil circulating

through the system less frequently, resulting in cooler oil and

component temperatures to provide optimum performance and

longer life.

• Hydraulic oil filter is located at center rear, in the engine

compartment. New filter base has built-in restriction indicator to

show when filter replacement is required.

at 500-hour intervals. (Initial oil change at 50 hours.)

• Direct-injection for easier starting and better cooling.
