....................................................................................................................................The Mission of Project Mobility is to make a positive difference in the lives of children, adults and wounded soldiers with disabilities. They provide the services, resources, and equipment needed to promote better health, independence, and the freedom of mobility through adaptive cycling. In 2016, Project Mobility traveled to 25 different states serving over 2,000 wounded soldiers and held over 50 day camps for children with special needs and donated over $50,000 in adaptive cy-cling equipment! “ On December 4th, 2011, while onboard a ship deployed to the Persian Gulf, I was struck in the head with a 30-pound bracket that was thrown from one floor above me. I suffered a traumatic brain injury and was losing blood to the left side of my brain. After a week I was finally hospitalized due to significant speech impairments and balance difficulty. I had to relearn to walk, talk, and many other “normal” activities that we take for granted every day. Shortly after my accident I was asked to compete in the 2012 Warrior Games. Sport had always been an important part of my life so I gladly accepted. They asked me to ride in a 10k on an upright bike; however, I required someone to hold the bike upright for me to get on and off, as well as someone to hold the bike steady until I started moving. There also had to be someone around to “catch” me at the finish line or in order for me to stop so I wouldn’t fall. Finishing a 10k on this bike was one of the most amazing experiences in my life. I felt such a sense of ability and strength! Although my independence to get on and off the bike was gone, there was something very freeing about being able to move like that again. Unfortunately, the dizziness and pain that comes along with rides like these are more than I can handle, and require an extended amount of recovery.

5+ years after the accident, I still suffer from balance difficulty, dizzy spells, and debilitating pain. I have always wanted the op-portunity to ride a bike with friends or groups and experience the comradery that goes along with some of these amazing rides. Since riding a bike has not been an option for me without assistance, an adaptive bike or trike will allow me the opportu-nity to participate in physical activity independently.

I have never been one to give up and although my life is very different now, and I live a “new normal”, I am deter-mined to bring back those things in my life that are missing in whatever “adaptive” way I can. I may struggle from day to day, and some days may be harder than others, but this life change has brought some of the most amazing opportu-nities and people into my life and I am forever grateful for that. Thank you!” Jeannette Tarqueno Former US Navy Gunners Mate, First Class Petty Officer

Project Mobility held their fifth annual ‘Everybody Rides’ benefit in St. Charles, Illinois on September 24th, 2017. The day included group rides, food and entertainment, as well as their annual Adaptive Bike Giveaway winner presentation. A big congratulations to Jeannette Tarqueno, who received a brand new TerraTrike Rambler n380 NuVinci! TerraTrike’s Joshua Weible was at this event and had the opportunity to meet Jeanette and hear her moving story firsthand.

Gran TourismoThe Gran Tourismo’s triangulated rear end adds pedaling efficiency, better aerodynamics, reduced pedal steer and lower center of gravity so that you “stick” to the road even at higher speeds. The chro-moly steel frame is durable, more comfortable and provides a “passive suspension” with a smoother ride. The Y-frame design adds strength and allows for additional heel clearance and ease in getting in and out. And the new seat mounting adds rigidity to the

In the Spring of 2017, Ben Jones, owner of Dogwood Junction in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, started a trike and bike tour-ing business. Along with his passion for trikes, Ben has personal experience with trike touring, having completed the 1,000 mile ‘Freedom Fund Ride’ in 2016. Ben’s energy and enthusiasm is contagious, and his tours promise to be entertaining.

On August 21 Ben led a group of 7 riders on a very unique trike ride, the ‘Great American Eclipse’ Trike Tour. The group of enthusiastic riders left Siloam Springs at 5am and headed to Jefferson City, Missouri, with plans to ride the Katy Trail for 20-30

miles. The Katy trail in northern Missouri was right in the path of the eclipse, and provided some excellent viewing oppor-tunities of the total eclipse! A picnic lunch and custom t-shirts added to the fun.

Dogwood Junction’s tours range from day trips to week long adventures. A few of Ben’s upcoming tours include the Nat-chez Trace (9 days, Spring 2018), the Katy Trail, and the Tulsa Riverside Trail. All bike and trike enthusiasts, beginner or pro, are welcome to participate in the Dogwood Junction tours. Ben recommends, “Invite your family and friends to join in and make your experience more enjoyable!”

Pedal-Powered Rail Riding... on comfortable TerraTrike seats! One of the first Rail-Riding tour companies started in the state of Oregan. In 2014, an Oregon couple kicked off their rail-riding tour busi-ness, Tillamook Bay, using sections of inactive rail lines in the northeastern part of Oregon. Tillamook Bay riders pedal small 4-wheeled vehicles on the rails, sitting back in a comfortable position and enjoying the views along the way. Tillamook Bay likens the experience to riding a “four person recumbent bicycle crossed with a rail car frame!”

Rail Riding is growing in interest across the country, and is offered in the Adirondack mountains by Revolution Rail Co. They describe rail riding as being similar to pedal-ing a paddle boat… but on wheels! Some of the rails that Revolution Rail uses are former freight lines that follow the Hudson River and have never been open to passenger service before, so the views they provide are very unique! They offer both 2 seater and 4 seater ‘bikes’, and different length tour options. When you come to the end of the line, the vehicle is turned around on a railway turntable and you head back in the direction you came from.

Rail Riding is very similar to riding a TerraTrike, and we are pleased to see that many of the rail-riding tour companies are making use of the very comfortable TerraTrike seats! Of course, TerraTrike riders already know that riding in comfort is the only way to go!

Rail-Riders!Most recumbent trike riders are familiar with converted rail trails - former railroad lines where the rails have been removed and the rail line is paved. But many people are not familiar with ‘Rail-Riding’!

Rail-riding is unique because it makes use of existing out-of-serivce railroad lines for pedal-powered adventure! Small pedal vehicles can be riden down former railroad tracks, providing a great way to experience some stunning scenery, wildlife and natural habitats.
