    Mission Statement

    The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caringyoung people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

    To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

    These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

  • eAssessments (on-screen examinations)• Learn about the mission and philosophy of the

    • Explore the eAssessment/ePortfolio framework, expectations and outcomes

    • Understand how the MYP eAssessment will be delivered at GWA

  • IB Philosophy

    • Focus on conceptual learning which allows students to organize ideas within and across subject areas.

    • Extend learning transfer that will extend beyond the classroom and beyond the summative testing point to future learning.

  • The MYP eAssessments and ePortfolios• embody the MYP at the core of the programme and

    are built on the development of learning in the MYP through Global Contexts and Conceptual Understandings

    • provide external results in line with IB expectations and will support the decisions our students are making in further education (IBDP and IBCP) and their future

  • Through eAssessments students will have to opportunity to: • Demonstrate achievement against all criterion• Develop application of knowledge and skills in

    unfamiliar situations• Exercise creative and critical thinking• Explore ideas through a global context• Develop multiple perspectives to analyze issues

    and challenges• Use reasoning and problem-solving skills

  • ePortfolios• ePortfolio subjects include:

    • Language Acquisition (French and Spanish)• Physical and Heath Education• Design• Arts (Music, Drama and Visual Arts)• Personal Project

    • Completed in class as a 20 hour unit, set out by the IB with Global Context. • Time-frame (January- March)• Global Context: Scientific and Technical Innovation• Criterion-related assessment• Moderated on site by IB teachers• uploaded portfolios to the IB

    • Student work will be submitted before March 23

    • Global Context: Scientific and Technical Innovation• Subject areas include:

    • Language and Literature• Mathematics• Individuals and Societies• Sciences

    • Included is additional Interdisciplinary exam, which will encompass two disciplines as part of the final evaluation for the IB MYP Certificate.

  • Preparations for eAssessment and ePortfolio

    • Curriculum development• In-class experiences• Development of structured assessment

    practices (formative and summative)• Mock examinations/familiarity with platform• Practice with logins and technology• On-screen Specimens for practice

  • • Individuals and Societies: •Tuesday May 9 (Students arrive by 12:30pm; exam starts at 1:00pm) – no morning classes

    • Math (Standard/Extended): •Thursday May 11 (Students arrive by 12:30pm; exam starts at 1:00pm) –no morning classes

    • Language and Literature: •Friday May 12 (Students arrive by 8:00am; exam starts at 8:30am)

    • Arabic A: •Tuesday May 16 (am) – Arabic A students only (after exam students will have a 20 minute break; at10:50 Arabic A students will attend lesson three)

    • Sciences: •Thursday May 18 (Students arrive by 8:00am; exam starts at 8:30am) – no afternoon classes

    • Interdisciplinary: •Friday May 19 (Students arrive by 12:30pm; exam starts at 1:00pm)

    Key Dates and Expectations:

  • Expectations of the Examinations:• Each on screen examination is 2 hours in duration

    • It is mandatory for students to sit the exam for a minimum of 60 minutes, after which time they may be excused.

    • Students are not permitted to leave the examination room during the last 15 minutes of the on screen assessment.

    • Students must earn a 3 or above on eAssessments, the ePortfolio and Personal Project for an MYP Certificate to be awarded.

  • Assessment Day Preparations

    • The students will be provided the following: • an electronic template of rough/scratch paper for use during each examination.

    • Students may bring with them the following: • a pen or pencil for making rough/scratch notes• a translating dictionary for non-language examinations (only if applicable; an

    electronic dictionary is not permitted). • It is not permitted for candidates to bring any other stationery items

    into the examination room - including calculators.

    • Encourage students to take the assessment seriously and do their best.

  • Celebration

    • Please note, we will receive the results of the ePortfolios/eAssessments by August 1, 2017.

    • The acknowledgement of achievement will take place at our MYP Celebration Evening when we return in the fall.
