Reproduction in Pigs•Gilts become able to breed by about 8 months of age, and remain fertile until they are about 18-24 months of age.•Boars reach this point between 8-10 months of age.•The gestation period is about 115 days. An easy way to remember this is 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days.

Piglets! •When a sow gives birth, the process is called “farrowing.”•Sows and piglets are usually kept in special buildings called farrowing huts. This allows space for piglets to move so they don’t get smashed by the sow, but are still safe from other full grown pigs.•Sows generally farrow between 7-13 piglets per litter.
