IrGate (Diffused Infrared or DIRTM)
Technology Summary
IrGate uses the Diffused Infrared (DIRTM) approach to communicate between the transmitting (Tx) and receiving (Rx) entities. DIR means simultaneously non-directional and Non-Line-Of-Sight (NLOS) operation. The unique IrGate technology relies on ‘diffused’ reflections and scattering of optical beams from ceilings, walls and other surfaces, in order to establish high bit rate wireless communications, within a closed space in an omni-directional behavior. The IrGate transmitter uses an array of Infrared (IR) Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to emit at a wide emission angle to the enclosure, while the IrGate receiver uses an array of highly sensitive sensors to detect the residual emitted infrared energy, after it has passed absorption and attenuation traveling along the optical wireless channel.IrGate - Characteristics:
High, reliable bandwidth - Baseband DIR communication can achieve high bit rate operation of 50Mbps and more.
Omni-directional operation - DIR displays robustness in an environment that includes various obstructions and obtrusions and does not need direct line of sight.
Security - Infrared is a part of the optical light spectrum, but is invisible, hence, it cannot pass through walls, and so exhibits inherent security within an enclosure. IrGate offers inherent segmentation and the possibility to reuse the same optical bandwidth in adjacent enclosures/rooms without co-interference (the concept of a RoomNetTM).
Immunity to Radio Frequency (RF) interferences - As IrGate uses an optical infrared carrier, it has an inherent advantage over RF by not being susceptible to various RF interferences from various RF emitting devices working in proximity to an IrGate device.
Non-regulated technology - IrGate uses a worldwide non-regulated optical wavelength. There is no need for country/state frequency allocations or any special labeling. IrGate uses LED emitters that are similar to IR remote control devices, but faster, and is characterized as a “Class 1 LED Product”.
‘Green’ technology - IrGate is a non-RF technology and uses the optical spectrum for communication. As opposed to RF, IR light does not penetrate the body tissue, and thus has no suspected health hazards.
Low cost - IrGate, as a baseband IR technology, lends itself to low cost manufacturing in mass production, similar to IrDA ports in cell phones, PDAs and laptops.
Consumer Electronics (CE) orientation - IrGate is implemented as a small chipset targeted to be embedded in many types and kinds of
consumer electronic devices.

Product Information
Wisair, a leading provider of Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB (WUSB) chipset solutions, announced the immediate availability of its new WSR601, a single-die CMOS chip for both host and device Wireless USB applications. The production-ready chip, based on WiMedia and Certified Wireless USB standards, integrates UWB PHY (including RF), MAC and Wireless USB subsystems. The WSR601 combines high performance and low power consumption to offer a cost-effective solution for a wide range of Wireless USB applications, including battery-powered, portable devices.
Implemented in digital CMOS process, the WSR601 supports HWA, DWA and Native device protocols, and features SDIO and USB interfaces, isochronous data transfer and cable and numeric association models. With unique PHY capabilities, the single chip delivers full-room coverage with connectivity ranges of 8 meters at 480Mbps and over 20 meters at 200 Mbps. For mobile devices where battery life is key, the WSR601 provides power-save modes and an average power consumption of 385 mW at 100 Mbps throughput.
A two-wire coexistence scheme allows the WSR601 to coexist in close
proximity to other radios such as Bluetooth and 802.11. The chip's low out-of-band emission, below -70dBm/MHz, provides the flexibility to support Japan regulatory requirements without the need for a dedicated external filter. Additionally, integrated Detect & Avoid technology enables the WSR601 to coexist with other wireless technologies sharing the same spectrum, such as WiMAX.
"With the WSR601, we are responding to the market's demand to lower the cost of both host and device Wireless USB solutions, yet without compromising performance," said David Yaish, CEO at Wisair. "We are very enthusiastic about the results of our new chip as its performance is even better than our previous-generation, industry-leading chipsets. The WSR601 will allow ODMs to dramatically reduce module costs through a lower bill of materials (BOM), as well as reduced PCB and assembly costs."
"For the wireless USB market to realize its full potential, BOM prices must drop in order to lower end-user prices, and, small form factor, low power and battery operated mobile applications must be supported," said Brian O'Rourke, principal analyst In-Stat. "One way to tackle these market requirements is for the industry to deliver single-chip solutions that provide optimal performance and lower costs. Next, PC and device developers need to begin integrating wireless USB chips into end products, rather than requiring the use of dongles and hubs. Wisair has made another big step in helping to further the proliferation and desirability of wireless USB technology, for consumer applications, as its new chip meets a broad spectrum of size, performance and cost criteria."

Technology Summary
CopperGate’s CopperStream™ technology exploits the capacity of telephony and coax wiring by delivering data rates of up to 320 Mbps to multiple network nodes. The technology includes a robust Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) scheme, which achieves high data rates on a variety of wiring topologies, overcomes various impairments and coexists with other services on the same wires, such as POTS, dial-up modems, ISDN, ADSL, VDSL and broadcast TV. It also features a highly efficient synchronous Media Access Control (MAC) protocol layer that enables a useable net throughput of above 200Mbps. The technology is capable of guaranteeing the required Quality of Service (QoS) for multiple simultaneous streams, essential in entertainment and multimedia applications and services such as distribution of multiple HDTV streams, distribution of multiple IPTV streams, digital audio and toll-quality voice streams within the home. Also part of the CopperStream™ technology are a Convergence Layer that supports bridging to external broadband networks and protocols such as xDSL, DOCSIS, IEEE 802.16, IEEE1394, and a suite of
management and diagnostic functions.
Major elements of the CopperStream™ technology have been selected as the foundation of the ITU G.9954 home networking standard. The technology was also selected as the HomePNA V3.1 standard, sanctioned by the HomePNA Alliance. Building on the knowledge base and experience gained from earlier versions of the standard, HomePNA V3.1 provides the best cost/performance solution for “no-new-wires” home networking applications. CopperGate’s chipsets comply fully with ITU G.9954 and with the HomePNA V3.1 standards.
