Our Mission

For nearly three decades, Independence Residences, Inc. (IRI) has been impacting the lives of developmentally disabled individuals across New York. As a not-for-profit human services agency, IRI provides residential and community support to enhance people’s independence and personal growth.

Our mission is to help developmentally disabled individuals and their families turn dreams into reality. Through residential support day and work programs, at-home care and Case Management services, our dedicated staff makes sure individuals experience the highest quality of life as integrated members of society. IRI is proud to be recognized as a COMPASS agency by New York State for achieving excellence in service delivery.

Through the kindness of financial donors, IRI has been able to make great strides this past year to further improve the lives of over 1500 developmentally disabled individuals. We have opened two new residences in Queens and Long Island, we have provided new work and volunteer opportunities and have been providing ongoing support to families at home during crises.

Last year, we joined forces with a new affiliate, the Queens Parent Resource Center (QPRC) in order to broaden the opportunity to offer first-rate care to the physically and mentally challenged.

To fulfill our common mission, each agency offers our own distinct set of services. QPRC was formed with a specific focus on families of the developmentally disabled and to support the needs of non-ambulatory and medically frail individuals. IRI provides care to people with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and behavioral issues.

Combining each agency’s strengths and revenue allows us to grow stronger, expand our capabilities and increase our quality of service.

Through your generous support, IRI and QPRC can continue to deliver these essential programs for another 26 years and beyond!
