Dear Parents and Friends,

I know many of you will be sad that Mrs Stokes is no longer writing the Principal’s Report in the newsletter she is a hard act to follow I’m not nearly as clever!

I would like to thank all of the staff for keeping the school running so well at such a busy time of year while I was on leave. In particular I would like to mention Mrs Burns and Mrs Stokes who shared the relieving Principal role, Miss Dennis who relieved as Assistant Principal and of course Mrs Fox who kept the engine room running smoothly.

This morning I had the pleasure of presenting Awards of Excellence to 25 deserving students (names following) who had achieved three Star Awards. As always, it is wonderful to see the pride on the faces of students and their parents. Thank you to Mrs Burns for organising the morning tea and awards and thank you to Emma Ashley and her band of helpers who organised the most important thing the food! Our special guest was Mrs Hawken, Deputy Principal from Baulkham Hills HS who was very impressed by the range of activities that our students excelled in.

Yesterday was a special day for Mr Brent and Angus McDonald, both of whom received Regional Director’s Awards of Excellence at a ceremony at Rooty Hill HS. Angus received his award for “Student Achievement” and was named the outstanding recipient in his category. Mr Brent received his award for “Outstanding Teaching” in recognition of the leadership role he has played in this school in the teaching of literacy, his leadership of OHS and the technology review. Both Angus and Mr Brent are very worthy recipients of these awards.

What fun everyone had yesterday at the Year 6 Fun Day! Thank you to Mrs Walker in particular for the work in organising this much awaited day in the school’s calendar. In spite of the weather, the boys and girls really did have fun, even in the spooky haunted house. beginning of next year so speculate all you like not even the school executive have a firm plan at present! All I can say with confidence is that there will be some composite classes and some straight classes and that we have 4 Kindergarten classes. If anyone “knows” anything else they must know something I don’t.

Last week Mrs Stokes, Mr Brent and Mrs Baronoff interviewed teachers for our two additional teaching positions. The successful candidates were Mrs Cameron, who currently teaches at Lindfield East and Miss Hailes who is currently at Kellyville Ridge. We will welcome them to our staff in 2011. During this term we also welcomed Mrs Schruba to our school. Mrs Schruba is well known to our staff and many students in her role as Regional Itinerant Behaviour Support Teacher. Ironbark Ridge PS is now her base school and we are very happy to have her as part of our staff.

FROM THE TEACHERS Kindergarten Just a reminder about the note that went home last week about our end of term movie and lunch day on Tuesday 14 th December. We need to have the permission slip and payment by Friday 10 th December, as no late payments or permission notes will be taken after this date.

Year 6 Fun Day We didn't let yesterday's rain dampen the enthusiasm of our Fun Day. The Year 6 students organised and ran activities including face painting, soccer relays, putt putt golf, water targets and there was even a haunted house!

All students seemed to really enjoy themselves and credit to the Year 6 students for their organisation and great leadership.

Also, I would like to give a great big THANK YOU to the team of wonderful mums who helped with organising and distributing the pizza lunch. Your assembly line was amazing and you ensured that all children were well fed and watered!! Thanks goes to Mrs Bernardi, Mrs Rosten, Mrs Pilarski and Mrs Bakhos.

Regards, Kylie Walker, Year 6 teacher

Hill End Excursion Years 5 and 6 had a wonderful time on this excursion. They left by 7.35am Monday visited the Three Sisters at Katoomba, had an excellent tour through the Lucas Cave at the Jenolan Caves, stopped for afternoon tea at Bathurst and made it to Hill End by 5.30pm. There was a fun disco and lights out by 9.30pm. Teacher’s final check was at 11.30 pm and students then started to arise at 5.00am. Tuesday we had a visit to History Hill where the children got to climb through a mine and visit a wonderful museum. We did a walking tour of Hill End and panned for gold in the river, some people even found some tiny bits. Food and accommodation were excellent and a big thank you to Mrs Walker for organising the excursion.

On arriving back it was nice to be thanked by a few parents. Many schools are not offering overnight excursions because of the amount of organisation that is involved. Teachers do not have extra time off class to organise these and it must be done in their lunchtimes or after school. Teachers are not paid overtime to attend the camp and be on duty 24 hours. The children were very well behaved and we received many compliments on the professionalism and high expectations modelled by our staff.

I would personally like to thank; Mrs Walker, Mrs Cauchi, Miss Dennis and Mr Clark for giving up their time to take our students on this valuable learning experience.

Celebration Night 2010 Something else to add to your busy December diary! Our Celebration Night will be held this year on December 8 th in the Rouse Hill High School Hall. Proceedings start at 6.30pm sharp. Thanking you in advance for ensuring your child attends.

Kind Regards David Brent

SRC Our last SRC meeting will be a pizza party lunch on Friday 10 th December to thank all the students for all their hard work this year.
