What is ISA-SP95?
• An ISA standards committee that develops standards for enterprise and manufacturing integration.
• The committee is referred to as SP95. – “SP” means Standards Project and it is the 95th such ISA standards
Committee . ( For a full list, visit www.isa.org/standards )
• The standards developed by SP95 are referred to as the ISA-95 Series.
4
The ISA-95 Series
Enterprise-Control System Integration:
• Part 1: Models and Terminology – published 2000. • Part 2: Object Model Attributes – published 2001.• Part 3: Models of Manufacturing Operations Management –
published 2005.• Part 4: Object Models and Attributes of Manufacturing
Operations Management – in development.• Part 5: Business-to-Manufacturing Transactions– approved by
SP95 in October 2006; expected to be published in November 2006.

ISA-95: A Multi-Part Series of Standards
Part 5 defines transactions at this level
Part 6 will define transactions within this level
Part 4 will define the data objects exchanged within this
level

Typical Uses of the ISA-95 Series
• Framework for capturing / mapping– User requirements– Business / Manufacturing Process Flows– Roadmap for Enterprise / Manufacturing Technical integration
• Typical Business Drivers– Available To Promise – Reduced Cycle Time– Supply Chain Optimization– Asset Efficiency– Agile Manufacturing
7
ISA-95
• A success story for standards• Very fast development and implementation of the standards• ERP-to-MES Integration efforts cut from 9-12 months to 8-10
weeks in some cases.• MES, LIMS … requirement development cut from 6-9 months
to 6-9 weeks in some cases.• Industry acceptance
– End users are using it in requirements– Vendors are supporting it in their products
• International– International adoption as the IEC/ISO 62264 Series
8
