IAEA Nuclear Energy Series (NES)The IAEA’s Nuclear Energy Series publications support the diverse needs of all Member States by providing greater consistency, coordination and recognition of selected nuclear energy publications and are important to all Member States interested in nuclear energy. Those without developed nuclear power programmes will find information and guidance on establishing entire programmes or identifying missing elements of infrastructure, while those with full infrastructure can use the NES for continuous improvement of their programmes in line with best international experience.

NES Structure

Level 1 – Basic Principles and Objectives The NES is organized in a user-friendly, 3-level structure beginning with the Nuclear Energy Basic Principles, which describes the rationale and vision for the peaceful use of nuclear energy and represents the foundation for all other publications within the series. Following the Basic Principles, the Nuclear Energy Objectives describe what needs to be achieved in the following four areas:

• General• NuclearPower• NuclearFuelCycle• RadioactiveWasteManagementandDecommissioning

Level 2 – Nuclear Energy GuidesNuclear Energy Guides describe how to achieve the objectives relating to the various specific topics under the four main areas.

Level 3 - Nuclear Energy Technical Reports Nuclear Energy Technical Reports provide a detailed technical background on specific nuclear energy topics. For Member States and others, these reports offer a comprehensive picture of the status of global developments.

Nuclear Energy Series PublicationsAt present, there are 31 Nuclear Energy Series titles available and several more coming soon. In addition, over 100 publications are currently under development and many more are being proposed within the Series and as supporting publications.
