ISHCMC will celebrate Book Week the first week in No-vember. The teachers and students are planning a number of exciting events and learning experiences to commemorate books and love of reading. Our central idea is: Reading opens the universe to us.

We need your help.

If you know anyone or are yourself involved in book publishing, writing, and/or illustration please let us know. We’d love to have a few special guests to come and talk to classes. We are also looking for parent vol-unteers to come and read in English and other home languages at different grade levels. If you’d like to help in any way or can lead us to some writers, illustrators, or publishers please email Nancy S at [email protected]

Book Week

MAP testing will provide the school with an insight into your child’s development, inform instruction for teach-ers, and potentially show growth in the school in read-ing and mathematics. Re-sults will be shared with par-ents after testing has been completed. No preparation is required but please make sure your child has a healthy breakfast and plenty of sleep.

New Student Interviews

The E-Reporters have been divided into dif-

ferent groups to do certain things. What this

letter is about is what two girls (Venus and

Brishti) did in their group.

What we did was to interview new students around primary school in ISHCMC. So we told classes what we will do and where we will be holding the meeting. We decided to hold it in the library.

Theo, Izi, Zain and Brishti are who we inter-

viewed. We had lots of fun together. We inter-

viewed Theo first. Next we interviewed lzi.

Then it was Brishti’s turn. And then it was

Zain’s turn.

They liked school and most of them want to

be an e-reporter. We could always use some

more people! They felt (and we agreed) that

we should have friends to play with in your

new school.

Everyone seems very satisfied about the

friends, teachers and learning!

Thank you everybody who went to the inter-

view. We hope you enjoyed our letter!

-Venus and Brishti

Venus Interview Theo Look at Advaith’s eyes!

The Spelling bee house day was the first day of spirit week, and I was one of the spellers in the dragon house!

Here is how you play:

All 4 team houses (Dragons, Tigers, Cobras and Buffaloes) arrange who will be the spellers. So each speller has a colored (has to be your team color) piece of paper with one letter from the alphabet. Next a judge says a quiz like “What does a duck say?” so on the chairs we spell ‘quack’. Whoever has the letters Q, U, A, C or K, they sort themselves into the word.

Well, who won the spelling bee contest? The dragons did! Here is how they won:

The dragons had 5 points and the Buffaloes and Tigers had 4 points. We had 1 more ques-tion and it was ‘Violet’. I was up for that one and I was in the 3rd chair. Can you guess which let-ter I was? We spelled Violet correctly and quickly so we got an extra point and the drag-ons won!

1st place: Dragons

2nd place: Tigers

2nd place: Buffaloes

3rd place: Cobras

Thank you! And for the Cobras, you have done a very good job! Thank you for reading and hope you enjoyed it!

you with respect.
