The Importance of Sleep

Upcoming Events

Dear ISHCMC Community,

First off, thank you to all who attended our coffee morning on Thursday. It was extremely

gratifying to have parents and our admin team discuss with one another about the chal-

lenges of developing responsibility and independence in our students. There are many

helpful websites and podcasts on the Gradual Release of Responsibility that can support

independent actions at home and support our goals at school.

This week EE4 took a trip to Riverside to explore and expand their knowledge of the

community. After their visit, they have been building maps of all the different items they

discovered on their walk. Great job EE 4! In grade 5, students started their new unit that

will culminate in the PYP exhibition this April. Thank you to all parents who attended the

information evening last night and experienced a piece of what students will be exploring

throughout the coming weeks.

Please remember to be prompt when collecting students after school. We have had a

number of students who are still at school well after the end of the school day. It is im-

portant that time at home is maximized for all.

Good luck to our grade 3 students who will be attending the sleep over at school tonight.

I also hope to see everyone at the PTO International Festival tomorrow!

International day coming up is

on 8th of March, 2014. This

ISHCMC fair is where other

countries show their culture.

There will be a lot of different

foods from different cultures and

you will get a “passport” so that

you can get stamps from the

countries. Every country has

their quiz about their own cul-

ture.

“International Day is fun. You

can try Dutch pancakes. They

are really tasty. Dutch games are

fun! Japanese games are fun too!

Plus I get to play with my friends

and eat ice cream” said Bopha

Jones about last year’s event.

Olivia Twomey stated, “You

could learn about other coun-

tries. It feels like you’re in their

country.”

We hope you come out on Satur-

day to enjoy ISHCMC’s Interna-

tional Festival put on by the

PTO.

Night at the Oscars

The gala concert will take place on

Tuesday the 18th of March, 2014.

It will involve students from grade

3 to grade 12 at ISHCMC.

The gala concert will be located in

the Opera House. Students shall

share their singing talents like

playing instruments, singing and

public speaking flawlessly. The

Night of the Oscars is sure to

make the crowd roar in amaze-

ment as the students strut their

stuff on stage.

This year students from grade 3

and up can perform as well as

choir and other grades above. The

students that get up on stage al-

ways make the audience impressed

and that shall be their tradition for

years to come! When you go to the

show there even once, it will make

you want to come back there every

time. Many student voices are like

a lullaby, a melody to your ears so

you don’t want to miss the event!

So buy your tickets from the

ISHCMC Admissions Office as soon

as they are out, or someone will get

it first, and you will spend a whole

year of regret, asking yourself

“Why didn’t I get tickets when I

had the chance?!”

I hope this gave you some-

thing to think about…

Grade 4 went to Madu-

gui for their field trip

from 25-28 of February.

There were many fun

activities like the zip lin-

ing, rock climbing, grass

sliding and rafting. The

grade 4s donated some

activity books for an or-

phanage. Some Ma vil-

lagers went to the resort

we stayed in. They

Grade 4 in Madugui Trip

taught us how to weave

baskets. Then we played

games with them. One day

we did water activity’s be-

cause our new unit is about

water. We liked going

swimming; it was a nice

thing to cool down. We had

a nice night of sleep and

good breakfast. Get pre-

pared grade 3’s for next

year.

Flappy Bird?

Flappy Bird?

People were complaining that

Flappy Bird has too many

graphics from Mario Bros. But

others who copied Flappy Bird

have had no complaints about it.

Then the person who made it

(he was Vietnamese) had to

withdraw it from videogames ar-

eas. It is probably the most ag-

gravating game in videogame

history. The highest

amount of pipes to get

is 1000. At the 1000th

pipe fire mario comes

out and starts firing fire-

balls at you. It also has

chompy plants which

will make you fall.
