CELEBRATIONS

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS:

Independence Day was celebrated on 15th Aug 2018. Janab T. Md. Mubeen

Sahib, President, V.M.E. Society, hoisted the National Flag and delivered the

Independence Day address. Installation of Martyr Plague in memory of our proud

Alumnus Mr. P.M. Reddy, who sacrificed his life for the nation, was held as per the

instruction of CISF, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

ONLINE CENTRE

Department of Computer Science is recognized as Online Centre by Sify Technologies to conduct online exam for the Tamilnadu Forest Department Forester and Forest Guard. Online exam for 770 candidates was conducted from 6th Dec 2018 to 11th Dec 2018.

Mr. N. Abdul Latheef, Librarian received "National Best Librarian Award" from The Madras Library Association on 12th Aug 2018.

72nd Graduation Day was held on 8th September 2018. Mr.V. Nandakumar,

Additional Commisisioner of Income Tax, Department of Revenue, Ministry of

Finance, Govt. of India and Prof. Sajid Jamal, Controller of Examinations,

Moulana Azad National Urdu University, Hydrabad delivered the convocation

address and distributed the diplomas to the new graduates.

73rd Graduation Day was held on 1st Oct 2018. Padmashri Dr. M. Rafeeq Ahmed, Chairman, Farida Group of Companies, Ambur and Dr. M. Valarmathi, Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Vellore delivered the convocation address and distributed the diplomas to the new graduates. DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

Department of English in association with English Access Program, Vaniyambadi Centre, conducted Six Day workshop from 1st Aug 2018 to 6th Aug 2018 for 110 students of Islamiah Boys' Higher Secondary School and Islamiah Girl's Higher Secondary School.

Prof. Khader Nawaz conducted a session titled “Public Speaking” at Auditorium on 6th Aug 2018 for 55 students from Islamiah Boys' Higher Secondary School.

Department of English in association with English Access Program,Vaniyambadi Centre, conducted one day workshop on 20th Oct 2018 titled " Enhancement Activities" for 110 students of Islamiah Boys' Higher Secondary School and Islamiah Girl's Higher Secondary School. A Special Training Program was also conducted on 10th Nov 2018 for English Teachers. Teachers from Al- Huda, Islamiah Boys' Higher Secondary School and Islamiah Girl's Higher Secondary School and Khaderia took part. Dr. Revathi, VIT University, Vellore was the Resource Person.

DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY

Biochemistry Association Function was held on 30th July 2018 and the chief guest IRFAN PATEL BE., MBA., Senior Director, Strategy and portfolio Tyco Electronics, USA delivered a keynote address on "How to Lead an Inspiring and Meaningful Life" for the students of Department of Biochemistry.Guest Lecture Series: Our alumnus Mr. R. Dhandayuthabani, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, Samara University, Samara City, Ethiopia, delivered guest lecture series on "Molecular Biology" to the students of III B.Sc., Biochemistry from 29th July to 02nd Aug 2018.

Parent Teachers Meeting was held on 16 September 2018. Around 75 parents attended the programme and sought personal clarifications from the respective mentors of their wards.

History Association Inaugural Function was organized on 24thSep 2018. Dr. Major Syed Shahabuddeen, Director, Non Formal Education, Vaniyambadi Muslim Education Society, as the Guest of Honour delivered the Key note Address on “Significance of History”. Kombai. S. Anwar, a Writer, Film Maker and Historian as Chief Guest of the Programme delivered the Key note address on “Relevance of Local History.”

One Day Orientation and Special program for Legal Awareness for students was organized in collaboration with National Service Scheme (N.S.S.) on 18th Dec 2018. Dr. Anwarullah Hajee sb, Secretary and Correspondent, Islamiah College (Autonomous), felicitated the function. Dr. T. Mohamed Iliyas, Principal, Islamiah College (Autonomous), delivered the Presidential Address. Dr. M. Mujeebur Rahman, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil, Islamiah College (Autonomous), Mr. P. One-Day Workshop: A Workshop on Bioinformatics was conducted on 30th Dec 2018 to the student of Biochemistry and Biotechnology where Syed Abu Tahir, DST-PURSE Fellow, Department of Bioinformatics, Bharathiar University was the resource person.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

A One-Day Regional Seminar on Current Trends in Nanomaterials was conducted on 24th Dec2018. Dr Ajeez Ahmed Associate Professor, Department of Atomic and Molecular Physics, Manipal Academy of higher education, karnataka from Manipal University, Karnataka and Dr. K. Gunasekaran, Assistant Professor, Department of Crystallography and BioPhysics, University of Madras addressed the gathering, 75 student participants from nearby colleges attended the seminar.

A Teachers Parent Meet was conducted in the department of Physics on 09th Dec2018. A number of parents attended the meeting between 10.30 AM to 2.00 PM.

Special Talk by VSA Scientist: Dr. Qhalid Fareed, Scientist, Texas Instrumentation, USA our Alumnus motivated our under graduate physics students about the importance of Physics and career opportunities in Physics on 26th June2018.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (C.A):

Alumni meeting was held on 8th Sept 2018. Thirty (30) alumni

of 2014-2017 batch participated in the meeting.

Parent-Teacher meeting for I, II, II year was conducted on 18th,

19th and 20th of December 2018 respectively. 96 parents

attended the meeting.

On 16-09-2018, The Department organized a special lecture programme on "Islamic

Banking - Services and Products". The chief guest Dr. Khalid Wahid Falahi, Assistant

Professor, Department of Management Studies, B S Abdur Rahman Crescent

Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai delivered a lecture on "Islamic Banking -

Service and Products.

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

Visit by school students:- Under the scheme of Tamilnadu Government, "Education for all - Project on Science and Maths, (RMSA), (RAA)" the X and IX class students from Islamiah Boys' Higher Secondary School, Vaniyambadi and Government Girls' High school, Nimmiyambattu visited chemistry laboratories on 07.02.2018. The staff members demonstrated simple experiments pertaining to their chemistry syllabus. The students were very much attentive and showed curiosity to gain scientific knowledge.

National Workshop: One day National workshop was organized on 05.03.2018 titled "Sophisticated Instrumentation for Chemical and Physical Analysis". There were 50 M.Phil. and Ph.D. research scholars represented by 11 colleges participated in this programme. Dr. M. Jayakumar, Scientist, CECRI, Karaikudi delivered a special lecture on "Electro Analytical and UV Spectral Techniques". In the afternoon session Dr. M. Jayakumar demonstrated the functioning of electrochemical workstation by taking measurements in polarography and cyclic voltammetry in the FIST lab I. In the FIST lab II, Mr. N. Adaikalam, Senior Service Engineer, SYSTRONICS LTD., Chennai, elaborated the working of the UV-Visible Spectrophotometer by taking inorganic compound solutions of different concentrations and drawing the calibration graph.

PROGRAMMES

Dr. Qazi S. Azher, Associate Clinical Professor, Michigan State University, Lansing Michigan delivered an inter-Collegiate lecture on "Preparing the under graduate students to undertake Science Projects" on 16.10.2018.

The inter-collegiate competition Chemfusion'18 was organized by the department on 17.10.2018. The events such as Quiz, poster, puzzle, mock interview, treasure hunt, talent meet were conducted in which ten colleges of Vellore and Krishnagiri districts participated and clinched several prizes, medals and shields. M.K. Jain College for women got the overall first prize followed by the Islamiah College for women.

The Parent-Teacher meeting was conducted by the department on 16.12.2018. The parents and guardians of the students of all the years of B.Sc. and M.Sc. attended the meeting. The parents appraised the attendance position and the examination results of the students. The contact numbers of the teachers were given to the parents and they were instructed to update the status of their ward at least once in a month.

The annual alumni meet was held on 16.12.2018. Umpteen number of alumni from local and farther places participated in the alumni association function. It was a proud moment to know that many of our alumni were occupying the coveted positions. Earlier, all the alumni had been asked to register themselves through the google link sent to them through the social media. It was resolved to strengthen the alumni association by making more and more old students to do the registration.

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

Web Development programme was conducted on 22nd July 2018. Mr.Imdad Hussain,

DevOps Engg(Wipro) and Mr. Aasim Ahmed, Web Developer (Iwayy Tech) were the resource

persons.All final year UG students Participated in this programme.

It also conducted another programme titled Recent trends in IT on 20th Aug 2018. Mr.

Mazhar, Alumnus of our department, Information Security Professional, USA, addressed

the final year UG students.

Alumni Association Meet

31 Alumni of the Department of Zoology/Biotechnology gathered at 2.30 pm on 23-12-2018 in Seminar Hall. They visited the entire campus and appreciated the overall growth of both the Department and College. Many members contributed for the life/ ordinary membership of the department Alumni association.

Carrier Opportunity Program – Medical Coding Report

Department of biotechnology and biochemistry jointly organized a carrier opportunity program on Medical Coding for the Bio science students at the seminar hall on 26th Dec 2018. Mr. P. Sayeed, an expert in medical coding from Professional Infotech, Coimbatore was the resource person of the programme. He explained the students about medical coding and the procedure followed for the coding design.

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

The Parent Teachers Meet was held on 21st Oct 2018. Forty Six parents of the students of UG / PG mathematics participated in the meeting.

Ramanujan Birthday was celebrated on 23rd Dec 2018 as National Mathematics Day.

On 22nd Dec 2018, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized a Management – Staff Meeting. Dr. S. Raja Mohamed Kamil welcomed the gathering and briefed the agenda of the meeting and highlighting the various quality initiative that has to be taken up by the staff. EDUCATION TOUR

Visit to Vellore Fest & Amirthi Zoo

All the students of the Department of History visited historically significant

place “Vellore Fort” on 29th July 2018. Then the students moved to Amirthi

Zoo. Additionally, they were taken to a tribal village near Amirthi as part of an

Eco Tourism initiative.

Visit to Pasteur Institute of India

On 4th and 5th Sep. 2018, III.B.Sc and I M.Sc Biotechnology students visited

Pasteur Institute of India, Coonoor, Ooty tea factory and several places of

Ecological importance in and around Nigiri Hills. From this visit, students learnt

about Vaccine production and processing steps of production of tea dust. They

also observed many flora of taxonomical and biological significance.

The students of E-Commerce and Footwear Technology visited Mohib Shoes,

Ambur, two times on 17th Oct 2018 and 13th Dec 2018 to have practical

I M.Sc. Chemistry students presented the research papers and won III prize in State level seminar on "Quantum Chemistry &

Spectroscopic Identification of Organic Compounds" on 20.08.2018 at KMG College of Arts and Science, Gudiyattam.

COMMERCE

Mr. Pragateswaran received a cash award of Rs 3000/- by

scoring 6 points in 9 rounds and secured 7th position in

below 1400 category in the 4th Queens' International FIDE

Rating Chess Tournament organized by 4th Queens Chess

Club, Ernakulam, held at Rajiv Gandhi Indore Stadium,

Ernakulum, Kochi, during 13th to 15th July, 2018.

On 27th August, 2018, 11 students of II B.Com., participated

in the State Level Seminar on 'Green Banking' organized by

K.M.G. College of Arts & Science, Gudiyattam.

On 30th August, 2018, 4 students of III B.Com., participated

in the events of Inter-Collegiate Competition 'CONFLUENCE-

2K18' organized by Sacred Heart College (Autonomous),

Tirupattur. Mr. Dhanush Kumar and Mr. Mohammed Owaise

jointly won the First Prize in the event 'Identifying the

Personality'.

On 8th September, 2018, Mr. C. Mohammed Anjaz Azain of

III B.Com., won the Second Prize in the event 'PUBG' in

CYNOSURE '18, a National Level Technical Symposium, held

at Priyadarshini Engineering College, Vaniyambadi.

On 26th September, 2018, 5 students of our Department

participated in the Inter-Collegiate Cultural Meet 'Art Smar

2018-19' held at Marudhar Kesari Jain College for Women,

Vaniyambadi.

On 27th September, 2018, 20 students of our Department along

NATIONAL SOCIAL SERVICE (NSS)

Campus Cleaning

42 NSS Volunteers actively took part in the campus cleaning activity at G.H. Vaniyambadi on 17th July 2018. Dr. Lakshmanan, Medical Officer and the staff members of Government Hospital supported to complete the work successfully.

NSS and IGNOU

NSS units and IGNOU jointly organized a program on 25th July 2018 regarding the provision of free registration of certificate courses for the SC and ST students. Dr. Zareena, Asst. Regional Director, IGNOU, Chennai enlightened the students on the salient features of certificate courses run by IGNOU. Around 80 students registered their names for the certificate courses on the spot.

An another program was conducted on 22th Oct 2018 to give instructions to those SC and ST students who have applied for certificate and diploma courses. Dr. Zareena, Asst. Regional Director, IGNOU, Chennai enlightened the students on various processes like writing assignments, lab hours, examination etc. The students clarified their doubts with the resource person.

Electoral Literacy club meeting

Dr. A. Mubarack Ali NSS program officer and Nodal officer, Electoral Literacy Club of our college attended a meeting of Nodal officers, Electoral Literacy club arranged at the Collector's office, Vellore. Emphasis was given on the task of

enrolment of eligible voter-students who have not yet in the electoral roll.

An another meeting of Nodal officers and the campus ambassador of Electoral Literacy Club was arranged by the District Collector at the Collectorate Office, Vellore. Dr. A. Mubarack Ali and Dr. M. Mujeeburrahman, Nodal Officers of Electoral Literacy Club and Mr. Prakash, Campus Ambassador attended the meeting.

An awareness programs

An awareness program on hazards of plastic was conducted on 20th Sep 2018. Around 200 volunteers participated in the program.

On 20th Sep 2018, around 200 NSS volunteers attended the awareness program on MOOcs (Massive Open Online Courses) and installed the applications like Swayam, SwayamPrabha, and edx in their smart phones.

Electoral Literacy Club of our college conducted an awareness campaign on the campus. Students were encouraged to prepare posters, depicting various aspects of campaign themes such as EVM PPAT Awareness, Future voters, Ethical Voting, Electoral Registration, Accessible elections, Right to vote and 100% vote.

NSS observed the Vigilance Awareness Week (29th Oct 2018 to 3rdNov 2018). In this regard the Pledge Taking Ceremony was organized on 29th Oct 2018. Nearly 200 NSS volunteers took the integrity pledge to eradicate corruption.

EXTENSION ACTIVITY (YOUTH RED CROSS)

In association with Government Hospital, Vaniyambadi, Youth Red Cross organized Ist Blood Donation Camp in the College

Auditorium on 20.08.2018. Dr. T. Mohamed Ilyas, Principal presided over the function. Dr. Ambika, Medical officer, and Dr.

Tanveer Ahmed, M.B.B.S, D.L.O, delivered a lecture on the importance of blood donation to the students. Dr. S. Liyahath John,

Rotaract Club Coordinator welcomed the gatherings and other coordinators of YRC, NSS, and RRC participated the

programme. 87 students of YRC, NSS, RRC and Rotaract Club donated one unit of blood each to the Government Hospital,

Vaniyambadi. All the donors were honoured with refreshment and Certificates.

Youth Red Cross organised the Health awareness programme on the title, “How to keep your bones healthy” on 23-09-2018.

Dr. C. Parthiban, M.S., delivered a lecture on the topic. 150 Students participated the Programme.

participated in the Inter-Collegiate Competition 'COMCAP

2K18' held at Sacred Heart College (Autonomous),

Tirupattur.

Mr. Aasim Faaz of II B.Com., participated in three events, in

'de oleum fest 2018' – National Level Energy Fest, organized

by Petroleum Department, Dhaanish Ahmed College of

Engineering, Chennai, and got First Place in a Game and

Second Place in the Case Study Event, during August, 2018.

From 27th December 2018 to 29th December 2018, 12

students from I, IIand III B.Com participated in the 101st

Annual Conference on “The Indian Economic Association”

along with Prof. H. A. Rizwanullah at VIT University, Vellore.

RETIREMENT

A Condolence meeting was held on 3rd Dec.2018 to mourn the sad demise of Mr. S. Allah Baksh, Watchman (Spl. Grade) and

Mr. Santhosh M, a student of I B.A. History.

Mr. N. Md. Nawaz, Associate Professor of Business Administration has opted for voluntary retirement and he has been

relieved w.e.f. 26.12.2018.

EIGHT senior cadets were deputed to attend regular army attachment camp at 16 Dogra, Hyderabad from 20th Oct 2018 to 2nd Nov 2018.

CLUBS ACTIVITY

ROTARACT CLUB:A Road Rally - Traffic Awareness programme was organized along with sponsoring Rotary Club of Vaniyambadi Midtown, RI District 3231, Vaniyambadion 1st Aug.2018. Dr. M.A. Bilal Ahmed headed the rally with 93 Rotaractors in the event.On 20-08-2018, a blood donation camp was conducted in association with YRC, RRC and NSS. Rtn. PPD Thirumaran inaugurated the Installation of Rotaract club Islamiah College Unit (3231) and Guest of honor was Rtn.PP.Vathi Khaleel, Chairman Literacy RI District 3231.Dr.Ambiga, Chief Medical Officer, Government Hospital, Vaniyambadi and Dr.Tanveer, Director of Blood Bank Medical Officer, Government Hospital, Vaniyambadi, addressed the students on “Awareness of Blood Donation” and 87 units of blood were donated to Government Hospital, Vaniyambadi.

LEO CLUB:The Leo club unit of Islamiah College was installed on 19th Dec.2018 by the new office bearers of the Leo Club, Vaniyambadi. Dr. Hakeem S.A.Yasir Ararfath M.D.(Unani) was the chief guest. On the same day Leo Motivation Seminar was conducted on the Topics namely 'Personality Development', 'Characteristic and Culture', 'Creativity' and 'Employability' followed by the felicitation. All the newly enrolled Leo students have taken the oath to serve the society and nation.A free heart check up programme was organized on 28th Dec.2018. A team of Doctors and Technicians from Apollo Hospital Chennai visited and monitored the patients with ECG and Echo study and about 128 patients got benefited.

On 31st Oct 2018, an awareness program was conducted for the NSS volunteers and students about various ways of eradicating corruption.

An awareness program for the volunteers on the “Ban on One Time Use and Throw Away Plastics” was organized .Dr. P. Balasubramanian, Assistant Professor of Tamil, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, Dr. M. Mujeeburrahman, Assistant Professor of Tamil and Mr. A. Fiaz Ahmed, Assistant Professor of Chemistry were the resource persons.

Birth Anniversary celebrations

To commemorate the Birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the Government of India observes 31st Oct 2018 as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day). In this regard the Pledge Taking Ceremony was organized by the NSS Units on

31stOct 2018.

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's birthday was celebrated as 'Youth Uprising Day' by the NSS units of the College. Essay writing and oratorical contest were also conducted for the students. Winners were honoured with certificates.

Collaborative Programme

One day orientation cum special program on various aspects of the Constitution of India, National Identities and symbols for the NSS volunteers and students was organized in collaboration with the Department of History on 18th Dec 2018. Adv. P.M. Sundaramurthy, former Standing Council Member, Government of India, Ms.Ammu, Advocate and Prof. D. Abul Fazal, Head, Department of History gave lectures in various topics.
